Summary: Anybody Want a Peanut?
Review: Okay, I love this movie. I really, really love this movie. Somehow it manages to both make fun of fairy tales and make you love fairy tales all the more. The dialogue is absolutely wonderful. I can quote this movie practically word for word and I never get tired of seeing it.
I have read the book, and it was HUGE disappointment. It was much more bitter and satirical and didn't have the clean, innocent dumbness of the movie. So my advice would be to skip the book and head to Blockbuster's.

Review: Well this movie has a number of flaws....

They aren't in the storylines both of which, (the story and the reading of the story) are engaging and interesting.

They aren't in the characters which are creative and fun.

They aren't in the performances, there isn't a bad one in it from Andre the Giant, to Billy Crystal.

It isn't in the action which is quite well done and in the great hollywood tradition of the 30's

It isn't in the comedy which couldn't have been timed better if an atomic clock was used.

It's not in the direction, this is Reiner's best movie.

The sets and the music all seem to complement the story so its not there.

Despite all of this, this movie has a number of flaws, and as soon as anybody can find them please let me know what they are because I'm not seeing them anywhere.

Should be required family watching.

Summary: One you want to own
Review: "The Princess Bride" is one of those movies that you absolutely must have in your collection. Period. You can throw this in any time...it just never gets old. It's also great when you have a bunch of people around and just want to watch random movie. It's always a good choice.

For serious fans of the film, the special edition provides some great extras, like commentaries, a documentary, and footage shot by Elwes during the making. No DVD collection can be considered complete without this.

Summary: True Opinion on an Amazing Movie
Review: I first saw this movie in grade four at school. I was ENTHRALLED. It is soooo amazingly good. Whoever thinks it's boring must not have enough intellect to see the wonderful points in this video. It is so romantic, yet funny, yet...well once you see it you'll understand. This one is a classic.

Summary: My ame is Inigo Montoya...you kill my father..prepare to die
Review: A classic movie with wit and charm in abundance. This is one of 'those' movies that have such memorable lines that they become part of pop culture. It's a fantasy story about a farm boy (Cary Elwes) who is a servant to a beautiful girl (Robin Wright Penn). He is poor and loves her dearly and she comes to love him. In order to provide for her, he sets off to make his fortune... and the story goes from there.
It is full of quick wit and humor, with cameo appearances by Billy Crystal as 'Miracle Max.' The line of humor tends to be somewhere in the neighborhood of Monty Python, especially in the realm of quotable lines, and Mel Brooks, all with the classic Rob Reiner touches. Cary Elwes does a fine job of being very dry in delivery of his lines while Mandy Patinkin gives a most excellent performance as the mercenary swordsman/ex-drunk in search of vengeance for the killer of his father. It's a flight of fancy that is sure to please if you have a bit-o-wit to keep up with the fine dialogue.
A definite winner.

Summary: Cheers for the extras and CC
Review: If you are going to buy this DVD it better be the special edition. A previous copy was sold but it is trash aside from the movie itself. This DVD has ENGLISH subtitles. Now you say "So What" But how many times in the great sword fight sceen have you said, "I wish I knew what they were saying" and all over this movie there are places where you try your hardest but can't make it out. Fear not here it is!! I was sitting down watching this with a (even more than me) diehard fan who could quote every line in the movie that she could understand. Well with the CC she fell on the floor because she was so giddy! Secondly it has a all new documentry with new interviews of the cast and several more extras. It is great!! Buy it and buy it today-- because we all know your VHS is almost (if not yet) broken from over use or over exposure!!

Summary: A movie worth seeing over and over again.
Review: The more you watch this movie, the more things you'll discover to love about it. When I was younger I watched for the romance and the action (not to mention the damned funny Miracle Max and his witch), but the older I got, the more I appreciated the overall humor and satiric elements. The music is wonderful, the fight sequences make you hold your breath, and the dialogue is still fresh and smart after all this time.

And really what more reason do you need then, "Mawwidge is a dweam wiffin a dweam..."

Summary: Excellent movie, horrible DVD
Review: This is one of the most enjoyable movies I can remember watching while growing up. The only problem with it is the annoying cut scenes that feature Fred Savage being read the story. Had Reiner simply provided the story as is, without the annoying backdrop of a sick kid being read the story in bed, it would have ben perfect. It has everything you could want in a classic adventure.

That being said, if you haven't been duped into buying this DVD yet, take my advice, and stay away. My rating reflects the DVD, and not the film, which I would give 5 stars. Buy the Special Edition instead of this. This DVD is the worst one I own. The "Special Features" that are loaded on this puppy include a trailer and...well that's it. The "collectible booklet" is the DVD insert that all DVDs have with the word "collectible" thrown in. They could call the plastic wrap on it "collectible" too for all it's worth. For a DVD to come out in 2000, especially for a film this good, and have jck for extras, is an atrocity. They obviously rushed it out so they could sell the Special Edition later.

However, my biggest problem with this DVD is that it IS NOT TRUE WIDESCREEN! The only thing that makes it widescreen is that the picture is technically wider than it is high. They did this by actually taking the full screen version, and chopping off the top and bottom, instead of showing it in the true 16:9 aspect ratio it was shot in. People buy widescreen format to see the true film, since full screen cuts off part of the movie. This is the reverse in this case. If you watch the full screen version, you actually see considerably more of the film than the widescreen.

THAT is the reason to stay way from this horrible disc. Although if you're REALLY cheap and only watch movies in Full Screen, go ahead and get this version.
