Summary: beautiful set decoration with bad script
Review: I watched this movie about two months ago and I only enjoyed
Al Pacino in it,he was superb in this movie and very funny
under the heavy makeup.About Madonna and Warren Beaty I
Didn't like their acting and i'm still not a big fan for
the both of them. The soundtrack of the movie is boring
[The worst songs of Madonna].Except the set decoration,
the wonderful makeup for the actors and the great actor
Al Pacino there isn't any thing intersting in this trash.
The script is awful and the main character played by Warren
Beaty is one the most boring characters in the history of
the American cinema.

Summary: Doesn't do justice to Gould's creation
Review: While the movie is visially great the writers seemed to have forgotten that it was not just the appearance of Gould's villans that made them famous and interesting but their character traits as well. Adding to this problem is that seemingly every famous villain Gould created between 1938-1949 is in the picture. So not only do you have way too many characters to flesh out properly but for them to fit the story many of the character traits and professions Gould gave them in the strip had to be removed or changed.

The irony here is because of this the LESS you know of Gould's actual creations the more you will enjoy the picture. Conversely if you are a die hard Tracy fan who knows Gould's villains inside and out this film is very disappointing.

Summary: The comic book comes to life
Review: What can you say that hasn't been said about this semi-dark example of "film noire"? Everything about the movie reeks professionalism but in order of importance we have character, mood/setting and plot.

Whoever chose the actors and actresses deserves a special commendation. After viewing the file for perhaps the fifth time it seems no one could have been a better Tracy than Beatty and Madonna's part seemed absolutely natural as the temptress / schemer / wannabe lover, the perfect Tess and the irrascible "kid". The period setting and dark, Chicago, night clubbish modd was near perfection and was only enhanced by the fabulous Sondheim score that blended into the plot effortlessly.

The actions was straight-forward: Good cop vs Bad criminal. And in the end the good guy wins but not without pangs of regret for what might have been. The cameo performances were just the right touch and the tongue-in-cheek attitude stayed to the end.

Summary: America's First Comic Book Hero Finally Hits The Big Screen
Review: Back in 1931,an Oklahoma born comic strip writer/artist named Chester Gould moved to Chicago. While trying to ply his trade,he became fascinated by the gang wars that were fast becoming apart of city life. After all, this was the city Al Capone ruled like King Arthur in Camelot. At the time,Capone's empire was under fire from the G-Men.Specifically,a young,head-strong G-Man named Eliot Ness(Maybe you've heard of him?).It was from this legendary rivalry that inspired Gould to create crimebuster Dick Tracy.Gould used real life gangsters like Capone,Dillinger,"Pretty Boy" Floyd, and "Machine Gun" Kelly as inspiration for a grotesque band of outlaws like "Big Boy" Caprice,Flattop,Pruneface,Mumbles, and hundreds of others.Gould's gripping crime dramas, colorful villians, and unique gadgets made it one of the era's most popular comics.Rivaling Superman and Batman. However, this did not transalate to big screen success(with the exception of a bunch of RKO serials). Then actor/director Warren Beatty, who grew up reading the Dick Tracy comics, decided that the time was right for the "squared jawed detective" to get the big budget blockbuster treatment. As a fan of the Tracy comics(I became a fan because of the movie),I thought he did a good job with the movie. It's rich and lively and Al Pacino's "Big Boy" is a terrific send-up of his larger than life baddies like Michael Corleone and "Scarface" (Which is what Al said he was doing).Madonna also sizzles as songstess "Breathless" Mahoney.Don't laugh, but she does a good acting job. After all, she's playing a singing, sex siren....Oh....I forgot....she does that anyway!Although a variety of Hollywood legends like Dick Van Dyke,Dustin Hoffman,James Caan, and R.G. Armstrong make memoralbe appearnces("Bonnie & Clyde" alumnists Estelle Parsons and Michael J. Pollard also appear),it's William Forsythe who joins Madonna and Al Pacino in the scene stealing as trigger-happy madman Flattop. All in all,the film is a good bit of nostalga for comic book fans who may wonder what comics were like before the flood of super-heroes.

Summary: One of the worst Comic strip to film projects of the 90's.
Review: Warren Beatty gave in to cheesy production values and wooden acting in this really bad take on the popular detective of the 30's and 40's comic strip. It's touch to say what is worse about this movie, it's all too comic book look or the miscasting of the wrong actors for the roles. Maybe both.

Summary: Pacino was great, Beatty was not.
Review: This was a fun movie, with many similarities to a comic strip, such as the villians and the colors, but I don't think that Warren Beatty could have possibly been worse. He was so cheesy in it, and granted, it's a rather un-serious movie, but man was he bad! Al Pacino was great though and even received an oscar nomination for this one. Madonna was more attractive in this role than any others she has taken on (A League of their Own, Evita), and Dustin Hoffman's tiny role as Mumbles was fascinating. Obviously don't see this movie expecting to see reality. The backgrounds were extremely fake, as well as Beatty's acting. It's fun to watch though. The PG rating was surprisingly too mild for this film. There is a substatial amount of (nongraphic) violence and even some sexual innuendo. It was fun though.

Summary: A Great Movie with Amazing Picture and Sound Quality
Review: The DVD may not be fully loaded with extras or special features, but the outstanding picture and sound quality makes up for all of that..."Dick Tracy" is an incredible movie and can be enjoyed by everyone of all ages...Warren Beatty stars as Tracy; a tough detective who is determined to fight crime at any cost. One of the main bad guys he is trying to get off the streets for good is none other than Big Boy (Al Pacino). But Big Boy isn't going down without a fight, and is willing to put a stop to Tracy's career with his gang of colorful hoodlums... I really did enjoy this movie, and it is a classic. There are still elements of danger and suspence... The actors did a great job. Beatty is awesome as Tracy, but I have to say this; as always, it is Pacino who steals the show. He is so alive and colorful in this movie. Had it not been for his famous voice, you would've never known it was Al...Warren Beatty also directed the movie and did an awesome job at doing so. Everything about the movie was convincing and believable. Had this project been given to someone else, chances are that the results wouldn't had been as good.

This is a movie that you can watch with your kids, being that the rating of the movie is only PG. There is violence, but it is not graphic and is even really cartoonish at times. There is some sensuality in it...As I said, the DVD isn't loaded with any special features, but the crystal clear picture quality and phenominal sound makes up for it. The movie can be played in DTS, which sounds really fantastic...But the picture is the show stopper. The colorful and dark settings really stand out like never before. There is no way in the world that any VHS could do this movie the justice it deserves.

"Dick Tracy" is a great movie that continues to entertain people of all ages. Filled with action, suspence, and a lot of humor, this movie does not disappoint. If you have not seen the movie already, check it out as soon as you can.
