Rating: Summary: Fly Review: "Fly Away Home" tells the story of Amy, a girl from New Zealand who has to stay with her father in Canada after her mother dies. During her time there she finds some goose eggs that later hatch. As soon as the geese hatch the first thing they see is Amy and so they imprint on her, thinking she is their mother. Due to the geese natural instinct to fly south, and the fact that they don't have their real mother to lead the way, Amy with the help of her father attempt to lead the geese south in their own hang gliders. This is a very simple story done well, helping to create a pretty much perfect family movie. Jeff Daniels as Amy's father and Oscar winning Anna Paquin as Amy are equally fantastic, and I'd also like to give a shout out to Terry Kinney as Amy's uncle who is really quite funny. The directing by Carroll Ballard is brilliant and the cinematography is breathtaking and makes you feel like you are flying with Amy, her Dad and the geese. Not to mention the truly inspirational score by Mark Isham that is helping us along on our journey. The DVD special features which although not necessarily entertaining are appropriately informative. And also, "Fly Away Home" has been digitally remastered and is presented in widescreen, so it's the best you'll see this movie. I suggest you fly to the store or internet terminal so you can buy this, before it flies off the shelves.
Rating: Summary: What a Suprise! Review: "Fly Away home" was not a movie I meant to watch...It just happened to be on TV one day. Now being a 20 year old male college student who usually enjoys movies such as "The Rock" I don't think I was in the producers demographics on who they would think would want to watch the movie...but as things turned out I found "Fly Away Home" to be an outstanding and magical movie. Both actors are great in the movie and both are very very likeable. The movie hooked me in from the beginning and kept me completely immersed all the way until the end. Suprisingly after watching the movie I told one of my friends, and apparently he had seen it also and loved it...All in All Fly Away Home is an inspirational heart felt movie for anyone from age 2 on up that you will not forget. END
Rating: Summary: I thought it was really neat. Review: (This review is by my 5 year old grandson. He and my 3 year old granddaughter wanted to watch the video both days they visited.)
Rating: Summary: A wonderful story of the beauty of both animals and people Review: A 13-year-old girl from New Zealand, Amy (Anna Paquin) ,after the untimely death of her mother, comes to live with her father (Jeff Daniels) in Canada. At first suspicious, angry and uncommunicative, she discovers a new purpose and blooms beautifully, after discovering some goose eggs that hatch into a flock of baby geese. She rears the geese lovingly, and when winter comes , and it is time to fly south , her father comes up with a fantastic plan to guide the birds south to their summer grounds , with the aid of a makeshift airplane/hang-glider. A particularly beautiful scene is when we see the birds landing at their new destination. A wonderful story of the beauty of both animals and people.
Rating: Summary: Jeff Daniels does it again Review: A great family film. And a true story. This is one of those films that's a joy to watch, and leaves you feeling good afterwards. Jeff Daniels is great as usual.
Rating: Summary: Family Movie Review: A great story of a 13 year old girl that is forced to deal with the loss of her mother and having to learn to live with a creative nature-loving father that she doesn't know. Anna Paquin's character's dynamic transition from a grieving child to a courageous teenager is simply amazing. The movie will hold you and suspense and produce goosebumps, with an occasional laugh. It is a great movie for the entire family.
Rating: Summary: Lovely music but no widescreen? Review: A nice film with a beautiful soubdtrack by Mark Isham. I wanted the DVD to have a CD quality copy of the audio (Sony never released the soundtrack). But no widescreen? Come on...
Rating: Summary: touching and powerful, yet some big weaknesses Review: a really touching and powerful film, and it brought me to tears several time, and i couldn't help but admire the spunk of the girl, and also of her father, and from his desire to connect with her, against the odds, against the laws... things i didn't like: i hated that they sexualized the 13 year old girl. not to say she wasn't sexual just by nature of her age, but they purposefully made her into more of a sex object than they had to, especially with the shower scene - entirely unnecessary, gratuitous and teasing. i also hate that they made her have a subtle mini-pseudo-romance with her father's 20-something male friend. i think this sends the wrong message to kids, and they know kids are hungry for this kind of info and fantasy, and as such that it sells movies - shame on the movie-makers. put it this way, if that character was a 13 year old boy, they would never dare or even consider doing the things they did with the girl character. also, i didn't like how they "subtly" played up the sexual tension between the father and the daughter, such as having him run around in his jockey underwear - entirely unnecessary. last gripe: much of the acting, especially in the first third of the film,... so fake! the father's girlfriend was poor, and girl often came across as utterly unreal, and much of the dialogue was badly written. the father, jeff daniels, however, carried the show, and was strong from beginning to end.
Rating: Summary: A Touching Film Review: A wonderful film that exemplifies how a relationship between a father and daughter should be whether it be in a single parent home or two parent home. Not only will you laugh at the innocence of a child, but you will also cry at how real the emotions are. A supurb film for adults and children.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Movie for All Ages! Review: Amy Alden is 14 years old, and has lost her mother to a car wreck, which is the beginning scene of this movie. Amy is sent to live with her strange and odd father, who left the Alden family when Amy was only five years old. She doesn't like it at first, but grows to like it when she discovers geese eggs in her backyard. She sets off to raise them, but she realizes then that they must be set free - just like her.
