Summary: Good while it lasted.
Review: ***Died in less than 30 days; no luck with getting manufacturer to replace or repair it***

[my original review:]This DVD player (and CD player too) looks great, quite svelte and high tech. It has so far played any format I've thrown at it, and the video quality is nothing short of excellent. The audio outputs are adequate for most anyone's needs.
I've had 2 Apex TVs for some time, and along with this DVD player, I must say they are very good performers at bargain basement prices.

Summary: Plays almost every format! Good value for your money!!!
Review: . As it says, it almost plays all the major formats
. Decent picture and audio
. The actual colour of the player seems little different from the picture listed here. It looks more like silver. Nevertheless, it looks great!
. With mail-in rebate & free shipping, the price comes to < 40$ and you're getting a progressive-Scan DVD player, which is absolutely a steal!
. Excellent choice if this is your first DVD player and also, if you want to add this to the TV in the other room.
. Has an average remote. Becomes handy after frequent usage.

Highly recommended!

Summary: DO NOT buy this piece of junk
Review: .
I purchased this unit 3 months back and I think the unit knew when my warrenty expires. It is more than 90 days and it does not show the picture no matter what I do. I can only hear the sound. I changed video cables, tried connecting to TV on INPUT1 and INPUT2 but no help.

I think you get what you pay for stands true.

Summary: For the price, an excellent buy.
Review: After having bought and been disappointed in another brand of DVD player, I purchased the Apex AD2600 from Amazon and first of all I should say it was delivered MUCH more quickly than I had expected. (Good going, Amazon).
I am very pleased with the Apex AD2600....it plays just about anything you put in the drawer. So far I've played regular DVD's, backup DVD-R's, MP3 CD's, and regular CD's. I have not yet tried the photo show capability, but I'm thinking that will probably work well too, based on the success with the above mentioned disks.
I do want to mention too that it is certainly worthwhile to READ the instruction manual that comes with the unit. The comments I've read about having problems with this DVD player all seem to stem from pushing the incorrect buttons on the DVD remote....for instance, pushing the button to play PAL (European type) movies, when an NTSC (USA type) movie disk is in the disk tray. So, if you read the instructions well, you shouldn't have any problems with this DVD unit.
I can't speak to its long-term reliability, as I've only had the Apex AD2600 for a little over a week at this point. But, it seems to work so well now, that I don't anticipate any problems with it.
Bottom line for me is that for the price I don't think you can go wrong at all by purchasing this DVD player.

Summary: Have had it for 30 minutes and I LOVE it!
Review: After reading the positive comments here and elsewhere, I ordered the Apex 2600 around noon on Nov 24th. I chose the Free Shipping option and was given an estimated delivery date of Dec 3-4. Well, here it is Nov 26th and the player has already arrived. 5 *'s to Amazon and UPS for that!

Had the player hooked up and working fine in a couple minutes. Instructions? We don't need no stinking instructions to figure out how to use all the features of this bad boy. Remote and menus are clear enough to find anything.

Definitely does everything mentioned in previous reviews. Reads CD and DVD data disks. Shows JPG photos and MPEG movies. Full screen images and MPEG movies are sharp and not distorted (that I've noticed so far). Can't comment on progressive scan as I do not have a HDTV.

Can't help but feel that for $39 after rebate, this is the best value I've gotten for an electronics item in a long time, if not ever.

Review: All I can say is you get what you pay for. I purchased this DVD player last week. The remote control does not function properly and the picture keeps freezing up. Do your self a favor and purchase either a Sony, Toshiba or Panasonic.

Review: APEX HORRIBLE TECH SUPPORT - DO NOT BUY, November 10, 2004
Reviewer: H. San - See all my reviews
I bought an Apex DVD 2600 player 2 months ago. And yesterday, it broke down - the colors were all distorted in the output. So, I call tech support, which was reasonably fast in answering my call. Told them about the problem and they asked me to send it back - they have a SHORT 3 month warranty - to add to this, the Customer Service Rep said that the warranty does not cover "service charges" for repair and I had to argue with him until he agreed that it was covered. Next, it says clearly in the APEX LIMITED WARRANTY that the buyer pays for shipping to APEX but APEX pays for shipping back to the customer. They tried to give me an "internal policy" saying that customer pays both ways shipping. I told them that, as it says at the bottom of the warranty, the warranty gives the customer certain legal rights. So, they shouldn't claim any false information in such an important document and not follow what they are claiming. They claimed it was a "misprint".

BOTTOM LINE: This company is about LIES and NOT HONORING LEGAL DOCUMENTS. If you don't care about respect for the customer, then go ahead and buy Apex. For me, I will be adding a few bucks to buy a Panasonic, at least I know I won't be treated like a fool.

Summary: Looks great, works like crap.
Review: Bought one for $49.99. Seemed like a good deal, but this POS
frequently cannot recognize DVDs and music CDs -- takes a long
time loading and then concludes, "No Disc". Sent mine back.
I'd look elsewhere...

Summary: When it works, it's great, when it doesn't it's frustrating
Review: Bought the APEX AD-2600 from Amazon in 12/03 mainly on price, $49.99 - $10 rebate = $39.99. That was a mistake. We tried the "Finding Nemo" DVD and when we got to ~Chapter 28, the frames started to freeze for no reason. Cleaned the DVD, tried again, no luck. I pulled out our old non-progressive scan Toshiba, hooked it back-up and the "Finding Nemo" DVD works fine. I agree with previous posts that you get what you pay for. I can't rate it one star only because when it does work it's pretty good. Only owned it about two weeks so I expect we're looking at getting another progressive scan DVD player of higher quality very soon.

Summary: Apex AD-2600 compatability
Review: Bought this player after reading the reviews here which identify it as reading most formats including DVD+RW's and VCD's. Can't say whether I rec'd an "updated" model but it will NOT read DVD+RW's or VCD's for me. It did play a DVD-R which was unplayable in my older Philips machine. I don't have a DVD+R to try
So ... mixed bag I guess but the price was right.
