Summary: Good DVD player, BAD TECH SUPPORT!
Review: I have had my Daewoo DVD player for about 6 months now. The quality of the image isn't the greatest, but for the money all things considered its pretty darn good. It played almost anythign I through at it. I even played mpegs that weren't a standard format just by burning it to the root of a cd, and it played it.

I was pretty happy with it until the drive stopped opening. IT would try to open and stop like it was stuck. The rest of the player seemed fine, except I couldn't put a DVD in or take the one that was in out. After doing some research I find that its just a standard IDE Fuss DVD drive inside which can be replaced if you can get one on ebay. I look up the warranty info on the player and find that I have 90 days labor and 1 year parts so I figured I should be covered for them to just ship me a new drive and I will replace it myself (its only held in by a few screws, if you have any dealings with pc hardware then this thing is a piece of cake).

However they would not send me the drive. I have to send them my unit and pay them $50. I have heard from other people that it has taken as much as 6 weeks to get there unit back from the time they sent it to them! There is no valid reason why they couldn't have sent me that replacement part since it should be covered under warranty. Basically you really have a 90 day warranty, and anything else after that will cost you 50 bucks.

Luckilly I yanked out my drive and was able to fix it myself without sending it back. That just teaches me never to buy another Daewoo product (my roomate bought one of there cars and had nothing but problems from the get go. I should have learned from that experience).

All in all if you unit works then its great. IF not then your in for it!

Summary: Unforgivable
Review: I only put 1 star because I wasn't allowed to put no stars!! I'm not surprised this item has been discontinued at Amazon.com. I bought it for Christmas last year from Amazon and have regretted it ever since. It worked nicely for about six months, although we only used it a couple of times. Then it just stopped responding at all to either the remote or any of the buttons on the front panel, although the "on" light was on. So I went to the DAEWOO website and left a query in their customer service site. To my surprise a technician called me and arranged for me to send it back to them (at my own expense) for repairs which were put under the warranty. It only took them a couple of weeks to fix it and send it back (although it took about four weeks for them to send the paperwork with which to send it back) and when they returned it (at their expense) it worked beautifully for about five months (we still don't use it a lot --we've only used it three or four times since we got it back). I was really impressed with their service department, however,it has now broken down yet again!!The disc tray will not close. The one time it did close, very grudgingly, I got a message saying "nodisc." So now I imagine I will have to send it back in again . . . This is ridiculous! I haven't even owned this DVD player a year. In this day and age of modern electronics to purchase something with workmanship this shoddy is just unbelievable!! I would advise anyone to not purchase this or any other DAEWOO electronics. I know I've learned my lesson and will avoid all DAEWOO products in the future!

Review: It works. Haven't yet tried Progressive scan feature. Hope that would work.

Summary: Worst Deal
Review: Like most of the other people whom I know bought this Player, mine too worked great for 3 months and then started giving problems. Now it works intermittently, picture freezes often. Several times the player hangs up completely. Customer Service is virtually non-existent, hence can't even dare to call it bad.
Go for any other deal.

Summary: ups and downs
Review: purchased this item here at amazon because wasn't available at [local store]. Picture quality is excellent if associated with an HDTV...awesome.
exterior looks great with the silver finish and the hook ups on the back fulfill all the "video genious" out there.
the only down side i found is related to the tray wich often stucks while you try to load the dvd...it's really annoying because loading a disc take sometime few minutes....not to mention the scratches it produces on it during the struggle.

i was going to send it back to amazon but time has passed and i decided to live with it.
overall an excellent price-quality deal but is really bothering having to deal with the tray knowing that if the daewoo guys would have put few bucks more in quality this problem wouldn't be present.

Summary: GREAT!!! What more do you want at this price?
Review: Some of the specs on the box: DVD, SVCD, VCD, CD, MP3, CDR, CDRW, Dolby Digital and DTS Outputs, Optical and Coaxial Digital Outputs, Standard AV and S-Video Signal Outputs, VGA and Y, Pb, Pr Interface Provides Progressive Scan. (Yes, with VGA-out, you can even hook up to computer monitor). PAL/NTSC switching. 5.1 Dolby, Karaoke, etc, etc...

Rec'd my Daewoo DVG-9000N from Amazon.com on 12/12/2001 in a LARGE, WELL-PACKED box. My experience with this player thus far...

GREAT picture quality on a standard 32" TV. Since I don't have an HDTV (yet), I can't comment on the progressive scan feature.

Attractive silver console exterior with nice, easy-to-read display.

The remote is simple looking. Not great, but not bad -- a little hard to figure everything out that it can do right away.

The picture seemed to pause for a moment a couple of times during my watching "The Prisoner" TV show DVD, then forwarded to where it should be to match the sound. Pressing the slow motion reverse button just a little, and playing through the scenes again, it played just fine. Just a momentary glitch or something... Every other DVD I've tried has worked fine.

Plays DVD-R videos I've made with Pinnacle Studio DV 7 (then encoded with TMPGEnc at 5250 bitrate after demultiplexing audio, and authored with SpruceUp).

MP3 file menu is VERY "low-tech", however better than several other players I'm told. It's a little hard to navigate through files, and does not always seem to list things in proper order. This could be due to the way I title the tracks, since I have some dashes ("-") in there. By taking those out, it might help. It also refused to recognize certain mp3 songs (by simply not listing them at all), however these were few and far between. Certain MP3's seemed to have a wavering sound, but not too many. This might have to do with the type of encoding the MP3's had.

Summary: Daewoo DVG-9000N DVD Player: I like it.
Review: The Daewoo DVG-9000N DVD Player is a very good machine if you can get one that is reliable. Mine worked just fine right out of the box. Quite a few have had to return their 9000's. I left mine on 24 hours a day for the first week to burn it in and test it for reliability. So far it has been dependable and all functions work properly.
I bought it because I could connect it directly to a computer monitor via its VGA output. The picture quality in that mode (progressive scan VGA to computer monitor) is stunning. With the s-video and composite video outputs, the PQ very good, especially at the price. I have not tried the progressive component outputs. The remote control is very comprehensive. The remote can alter pitch on DVD movie soundtracks as well as on the Karoake microphone input. Changing actors' voices can be very entertaining.
I downloaded a firmware update, burned it onto CD-R and loaded it into the DVG-9000. Now I can bypass/access all region codes and the Macrovision is disabled. Before the update, the Macrovision was permanently active even with non copy-protected DVD's. The picture quality improved slightly after the Macrovision was turned off.
The unit is not as well built as the big name brands but it offers a wealth of features at its price range. My CD-R's and CD-RW's and MP3's play just fine. Highly recommended.
