Summary: Not disappointing
Review: I have always enjoyed the Muppet movies, and this one did not lead to my disappointment. It's entertaining for kids, including several jokes and satires which are also funny enough to please adults. And the jokes are clean enough to allow the whole family to enjoy. Each character takes on a new identity, my favorite being Miss Piggy's, to create a whole new muppet classic for us to enjoy.

Summary: Fun movie, and good DVD...but wait, it's Pan & Scan!
Review: I looked forward to Disney's DVD releases of "The Muppet Christmas Carol" and "Muppet Treasure Island". Columbia/TriStar's DVDs of the other 4 Muppet films contained both anamorphic widescreen and fullscreen versions of the movies. They were short on supplements, though, and I was hoping that Disney would deliver on extra content. Well, "Muppet Treasure Island" has an audio commentary, an extremely entertaining 22-minute featurette, and brilliant inspired DVD menus. But, Disney really missed the boat on the feature itself. "Muppet Treasure Island" is ONLY presented in Pan & Scan...and the video quality is severely lacking. It's a shame that my Muppet DVD collection will remain incomplete because Disney erroneously assumes that people want movies cut up for DVD like they do on VHS. Well, Disney, you're saving me money. Really bad decision. What's worse is that "The Muppet Christmas Carol" coming out in October - my favorite of the 6 Muppet movies - will also be Pan & Scan only. What a disappointment for extremely entertaining films that both adults and children will enjoy. Not sure why Disney would put effort into extras and disc presentation and then treat the film itself so poorly. Hold off buying this disc...I'm sure a widescreen edition will be out sometime soon.

Summary: What a bummer...
Review: We want the WIDESCREEN version. When I saw it in a MOVIE THEATRE, it wasn't on a TV!! Sell me the WHOLE movie or nothing at all. Every consumer SHOULD be smart enough to know that they'll own a widescreen TV within 7 years. You DON'T want to replace all the DVDs you buy NOW when that happens.

Summary: Film chopped to death.
Review: ...As far as the quality of the Jim Henson production and story it could have been and was top notch. That is until Disney got a hold of the file and cropped the screen. It really does affect the musical numbers on the show. Disney should have simply released a two-sided disk, one for full and one for wide screen. I'm hoping that Disney will wise up and re-release this DVD wide screen. Hopefully either refund or give current owners a rebate towards the wide screen version. So Disney if you're reading this take note of all the other reviews that also dislike full frame.
P.S. As for the story it's as good as all the other reviews say it is, if you can get past the missing chunks of the screen.

Summary: Best Muppert Movie Ever!!!!!!
Review: Okay, I have always loved the Muppets. Like Rocky and Bullwinkle, they were never really meant for kids. Too many of the jokes go over kids heads. And Muppets' Treasure Island is the best they have ever done!!! Jim Henson would have been proud!!!!

The story is perfect fodder for the Muppets. The jokes are crisp and muppet cornie, working in all your favourite characters, the music rousing! And of course, you have the marvelous Tim Curry as Long John Silver!!

Any time I am in a foul mood, I just put this on and suddenly the black clouds lift!!!!!!!

Absolutely a must for Curry fans or Muppet Fans

Summary: Greatly Hilaaarious Movie for Whole Family
Review: Best movie I've ever bought! Hilarious, clever, and adventurous! Enough said!

Summary: Hopefully the THIRD time is the charm!!!
Review: This is a classic Muppet movie that I was eagerly looking forward to purchasing. Unfortunately the Suits at Disney believe that the black bars which accompany a widescreen release are family unfriendly. HEY DISNEY, they thought that at Warner Brothers & a campaign literally FORCED them to give people a choice between pan n scam or widescreen for Willy Wonka (the way the movie was MADE)... 5 STAR MOVIE. 1 STAR DVD.

Summary: Cropped to bits
Review: This new offering by Buena Vista Home Video is everything you remember about the film, but something's missing: about one-third of the film! Disney chose to release this film with a rather unattractive silkscreen instead of the alternate widescreen version. It is really noticeable in the musical numbers. However there are many extras that are worth seeing. **** For the film and * for the tragically cropped version. Disney must think that people have no taste - and to be honest many people really don't get it. I recommend this release until something better comes along.

Summary: Why not letterbox?
Review: I have always enjoyed this film. Only the original Muppet Movie is better. But, the DVD of the Muppet Movie is far superior. Why? The film is letterbox!! Who ever thought of putting this film out nonletterbox should rethink what they are doing.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: More believable than the other Disney version.
Review: It was great to see all your old Muppet friends in a classic. The singing adds a new dimension to the story. Not that "Sixteen Men on a Deadman's Chest" is not good in its self. And the beautiful Benjamina Gunn added a more romantic touch. By the way if you enjoy the singing skulls you may also want to view the movie "8 Heads in a Dufflbag" with George Hamilton.

Talk about sophisticated dialog.
Benjamina Gunn says, "You left me standing at the altar!"
Captain Smollet replies, "I was on a ship headed for Zanzibar. I got cold feet."
Benjamina Gunn, "You're a frog! You're supposed to have cold feet!"

Tim Curry (being himself) was an excellent Long John silver. The only other film where he exceeded this is in the film "Oscar" with Sylvester Stallone.
This movie was nominated for both Golden Satellite Award and Young Artist Award.
No matter how you CUT it this is a worth while movie to own.
