Summary: Cool toy but limited
Review: After reading all the positive reviews, I decided to buy this model instead of the 2700 (although there appears to be very little difference between the two). Upon opening the box and testing the unit, I immediately noticed a 'hung' pixel in the upper left of the screen. It stays lit (white) on many scenes and becomes annoying at times. I was told that this is not uncommon and that another unit may exhibit a similar flaw.

The picture is very vivid once you get the proper alignment between yourself and the screen. Any movement up or down will necessitate a change in the screen angle to keep the picture quality the same. So, if you watch it from your lap in bed as I do, this may take some getting used to. Also, there are no color or picture adjustments that would allow you to customize the output to suit your tastes. I found this very limiting because some scenes are just too dark and the 4-way brightness adjustment is just not enough to get it right.

As far as the sound is concerned, the speakers are very weak and offer virtually no bass whatsoever (even though they are advertised as bass reflex). Headphones add a lot, but I also noticed quite a bit of distortion. Again, there are no sound controls that would otherwise give you control over this characteristic.

So, although others love this model, I cannot give it super high marks. Oh yes, the battery works fine and it has a remote that you need for many of the 'features', which seems ridiculous for a portable. I guess if you plan to use it to drive your home theater then the remote makes more sense, even though this model doesn't.

At $299 this would be a great value. Above that, it's average at best.

Summary: Beautiful
Review: Awesome unit. Black levels are excellent and contrat is a thing of beauty. Battery life on the unit is about 2 full movies and the ease of use I give it a 9 out of 10. This is the best player on the market.

Summary: Superb player!
Review: Can't find any faults with this player. Very versatile re: the various formats it will play. Rugged construction. Excellent ease of use. BEAUTIFUL picture! Comes with cigarette lighter adapater, 3.5 hour rechargeable battery, A/V cables that allow you to connect to a television. Pretty fair viewing angle. 90 degrees is best of course but can go to about 45 degrees without loss of clarity and brightness. A little on the expensive side but it's worth it.

Summary: Question
Review: I bought this based on the reviews that I read here and I was not disappointed. There were quite a few more parts than I expected in the box, but it was good once I sorted them out.

Question: On the front of the box (and also any other pictures I've seen) - they show the picture on the screen going all the way from top to bottm and side to side. In other words - no horizontal or vertical gray bars.

I've tried all different settings to try and get the bars to go away with no luck. When I play a widescreen - the bars are top and bottom. When I play a full screen - the bars are left and right.

Is this normal or do I have a defective unit? Or is there a way to change it that I just can't figure out? I called customer service and they were unhelpful.

If you bought this, could you please let me know if yours does the same? Thanks!

Summary: Not a good present!
Review: I got it in the September for my husband as a wedding present and the month later it started skipping parts of the movie, or would not start the movie at all, you would have to turn it off and turn it back on. And later the screen would not show any picture, you can listen to the sound of the movie, but not watch it.
Since it has been over 3 months from the day I bought it Amazon would not let me return it.
Thank you Amazon and Toshiba for making my wedding gift the worse gift ever!
This product sucks!

Summary: Worth the money.
Review: I just want to say that after researching portable DVD players for about 3 months and ALMOST buying a lesser priced machine (Panasonic LS-50), I am so glad that I didn't. I read through a few of the reviews for the Toshiba 2600 and loved the fact that the screen size was larger than 7", not a bad word could be found about it. Unlike the other machine which had many complaints about the battery life. Bottom line, spend the extra money, it's well worth it. I got mine for ($432 out the door)

Summary: Best Player For The Money
Review: I looked around for about a month before I made my purchase of the Toshiba. There are a lot of players out there but after reading all the reviews and going to the stores to see them work the Toshiba was hands down the best for the money. Samsung was a close second but what I liked was that the picture on the Toshiba was brighter and sharper. The Toshiba also has a better angle so two people can watch a movie together with not having to sit on top of each other. The sound is great and with the head phones on you really could hear the surrond sound. When I was done buying my case , ear phones and airplane adapter it cost me a little more but well worth it. I really can't see why you would want to go any larger and spend more money because they are getting to the point that for a couple hundred more you can get a laptop. You will not be disapointed with this player.

Summary: beautiful picture, but expensive
Review: I went shopping for a portable DVD player and the store I went to had about 14 different portable DVD players plugged into the same video feed playing The Lord of the Rings DVD. This portable DVD player blew all its competitors out of the water - including the two Panasonic models I came to look at. None of them had a picture that could compare to this one. The colors are rich and the black is as dark as I have ever seen. The sound produced by the external speakers is pretty good too, the movie is sometimes hard to hear in a noisy vehicle so headphones may be required on a road trip. Two headphone jacks are on the side of the unit. I have not experienced any problems with viewing angle when watching a movie with two people with the player inbetween us.
