Description:

The DVR5100 provides the best of both worlds in one simple, compact package: a full-featured, progressive-scan DVD player and CD player to handle movies and music--including MP3 files stored on CD-R or CD-RW--with a built-in four-head, hi-fi, stereo VCR to play an existing library of videocassettes and to tape new programs. You can even watch a DVD or listen to a CD while recording a TV show. With this model, an advanced Go-Port enables connectivity with PCs and other networked components.

Whether you have an HDTV or you're in "someday" mode, the DVR5100 stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.

This model's four-head design ensures smooth slow-motion play (forward and reverse) and clear still-frame images, while 19-micron heads deliver the clearest possible picture when recording or viewing is in EP (extended-play) mode. Route the stereo output to an AV receiver and you can enjoy four-channel (left, center, right, and monaural surround) Dolby Pro Logic mixes from TV and Dolby-encoded cassettes. Virtual 3D simulates a surround-sound effect through any existing pair of speakers.

Other features include one-touch copying from DVD to VHS (though it won't copy Macrovision-protected discs), Commercial Advance and Movie Advance, complete program record (automatically adjusts tape speed to ensure the recording of a complete program), auto clock set, and channel search. A convenient child lock effectively toddler-proofs the front panel. Included in the box are a full-function multibrand remote control with glow-in-the-dark keys (operates the DVD-VCR and your TV), two 1.5V AA batteries, a user's manual, a quick-reference guide, and a composite-video/stereo analog-audio interconnect.
