The Panasonic DVD-RV60 DVD player offers a built-in Dolby Digital decoder for AC-3-ready audio-video receivers. It also has advanced virtual surround sound (VSS) so that consumers who don't have the room or the budget for a full-blown home theater audio system can still enjoy superb audio. Advanced VSS creates a simulated surround sound effect, downmixed from either a 5.1- channel or 2-channel Dolby Digital soundtrack. Other audio features include analog audio outputs as well as digital-audio outputs, for DTS and Dolby Digital surround sound.The Panasonic DVD-RV60 is equipped with S-Video outputs and component-video out. Component-video out digitally separates the video signal into its luminance (Y) and separate chrominance (PR and PB) elements, allowing delivery of a reference-quality picture with precise color reproduction. (The connected TV or monitor must be compatible to attain the benefit of this feature.) Cinema mode enhances the picture by reducing glare, softening resolution, and improving visibility of details in dark scenes--resulting in a more realistic, cinema-like image. Every Panasonic DVD player features high- speed, five-step, smooth-motion scan. This feature provides crystal-clear forward and reverse scan in five speeds. At the highest setting, the unit scans at 100 times normal speed. The Panasonic DVD-RV60 also offers icon-based onscreen programming, a jog/shuttle dial, title/chapter preview (with marker function), still frame, repeat play mode, and a quick start mechanism, which begins playback in about five or six seconds. A backlit remote control is included. It also includes a warranty for one year on parts and 90 days on labor.
