Summary: Touching musical
Review: This musical has wonderful music and lyrics to it. It is also pretty much well acted out. The visuals can be stunning at times. It's inspirational. The musical shows the plight of the poorer orphan boys who must work at a factory in order to have board and be fed gruel every day. The governors and Mr. Bumble are hypocrites because they eat three feasts a day while the orphans get gruel. They dream of eating the delicious food that they have never tasted. Oliver gets the wrong straw and must ask for another serving of gruel. He is called greedy and is sold to an undertaker. A man in the shop insults his mother, and he is sent to the cellar. The window is loose and he escapes, getting on a vegetable truck and ends up in London. He meets the Artful Dodger, whose "art" is to pick pockets. He introduces him to a "respectable gentleman" named Fagin, and this man houses orphans in exchange that they pick pockets for him. An enjoyable musical!

Warning: This may not be appropriate for young children because of the violence in the killing of Nancy. I remember being scared and horrified as a child when I saw that scene, but now I take it better. ;)

Summary: One of the best films I've ever seen in my life!
Review: This movie is unforgettable: My eyes were in torrential floods quite uncontrollably. Mark Lester is beautiful, has a fantastic singing voice, and acts like a pro. "Where is Love?" must be counted one of the greatest film songs of all time.

Since it is a film adaptation of a musical which in turn is based on the book, its storyline is not unexpectedly different from the book's.

Finding Oliver! was one of MY greatest unexpected fortunes.

Summary: An Outstanding Musical Production
Review: As far as I'm concerned Oliver rates as one of the top musicals ever produced. Mark Lester as Oliver and Ron Moody as Fagin as well as all the other characters are appropriately cast in this wonderful movie. The songs in this musical are memorable and will always stay with me. To me, for a movie to receive a grade of "A" it must be able to withstand repeated viewings. This is one movie I can look over a number of times and truly enjoy it.

Summary: One Of the Best Musicals I Ever Watched!
Review: Oliver is one of the best musicals I have watched and I really enjoyed the story and most of the singing. The Kid who played Oliver was a good actor and adorable. I used to have the soundtrack on cassette tape but it disappeared and I had the movie on video tape but that also disappeared so I will probably get the DVD someday and maybe the soundtrack too.

Summary: PITIFUL 5.1 sound
Review: I purchased this DVD in the hope of re-living the magic from my childhood! I am not a technical expert, but the sound quality for both the dialogue and especially the music (5.1 dolby digital) was so bad that I am going to return this and wait for an updated version. This movie won Oscars for sound and music back then, and they totally blew it on this one.

Summary: Great movie
Review: My mother used to play the soundtrack when I was younger. Imagine my delight when my daughter sang a medley of 'Oliver' for her school performance. I bought the DVD for her to see 'where the songs came from.' She loves it as much as I do.

Summary: One of the two greatest Dickens films
Review: Forget all that overrated David Lean posturing. This film is the second greatest film version of a Dickens novel - ever. The best is George Cukor's DAVID COPPERFIELD (1935).

Summary: A Great Musical
Review: This is a truly wonderful musical. Not only are the voices amazing, but the actors comepletely fit your characters. When Bill Sykes speaks or enters the room, you freeze and tremble; when you see Nancy, you can't help but fall in love with her bright, rough, loose, happy personality; when you see Oliver, your whole heart is filled with sympathy and admiration for the boy; Fagin portrays his character so well it's scry; the pickpockets and Dodger make you fall in love with their rough, sneaky, sweetness. Oliver is a truly great movie.
