Summary: My Daughter loves this tape
Review: My three year old was having a little trouble with recognizing her letters but, by the time she had watched Big Bird do his thing a few times she could at least identify a few letters on sight. We have been watching for 2 months now and she is able to read her name and a few short words. Very helpful if you are preparing your little one for preschool.

Review: This has become our 22 month old daughter's favorite video. She asks for it every day and wants to watch it again and again. Amazingly, as a direct result, she knows her entire alphabet now. She has gone from knowing a few letters to knowing all of them and pointing them out all over in the space of a couple weeks. The songs are cute and the "story" is too.

Summary: A Must Have for the Sesame Street Fan
Review: First of all, I did not purchase this video to teach my 2 1/2 year old the alphabet (she can already recite her letters), but the FABULOUS songs and cute story line have helped her to recoginze written letters. The songs are great--my husband and I catch ourselves singing the Boogie Woogie Piggies or the intro song quite a bit. Thank heaven for Sesame Street and their catchy non-annoying songs!!

Summary: Primarily educational - but still fun
Review: This video does a great job teaching the alphabet - the conceit is that Baby Bear can't get all the way through saying the alphabet, while Big Bird and the gang help him learn it. Having Baby Bear get stuck at a different letter each time really works - my two-year-old occasionally finishes the letter for him.

This video has better between-clip production values than some Sesame Street videos - but die-hard Sesame Street fans will want to see it's songs like "J Joe Jeans and his Jellybeans," and, my favorite - Henson and Frank Oz as Ernie and COOKIE MONSTER doing "D." An incredibly funny clip.

So, this video does its job all the way around - teaches and entertains! Enjoy!

Summary: Greate fun for my 2.5 year old son
Review: My son is 2.5 years old - and within a week of seeing this DVD (every day - many times on his request!) learned to say the A-Z, and reconizes the letters and points them out to us in stuff he see's in the house or the street!

Great

Summary: Sesame Street-Do the Alphabet
Review: We bought this video when our oldest daughter was 2 1/2. We had been trying to teach her, but she is very stubborn about learning things when she knows someone is trying to teach her. After casually watching the video while playing, she knew her alphabet 3 days later! Our youngest daughter started trying to sing the alphabet in the car with her sister at 22mo., but was having problems understanding the letters, and keeping groups of letters in order. So we broke out the video again, and after just watching 1 time, she learned the alphabet completely and in order, and has done it perfectly ever since. No matter what your child's learning style is, this video does amazing things! Even my husband and I found it entertaining!

Summary: Troublesome Video from Sesame Street
Review: Before you buy this title ask yourself these questions:

· Do I want my child to have the unrealistic expectation that he or she can learn the alphabet in one day?

· Do I want my child to watch a bear who declares at the beginning of the show that he has to make a change in his life because he is miserable?

· Do I want my child to watch a video that shows the bear being put into a support group because he hasn't been able to learn the alphabet within the first 20 minutes of show?

· Do I want my child to learn the phrase "oh, man" due to the fact that it is uttered every minute or so by the bear?

On top of this, remember also that "Baby Bear" has a speech impediment which is something you may not want your kids to emulate if they are just learning how to string words together.

My answer to all the questions above was an unequivocal "NO" and I immediately returned the DVD to the retailer.

Summary: Pretty good for little ones!
Review: My 16 month old niece who loves music, loves this DVD. The 25th Anniversary DVD is her favorite, but this dvd comes in a close second. It has quite a few songs, mostly kid sing-a-long songs with sub-titles so mom, dad or in my case "auntie" can sing a long with the DVD. It goes through most of the alphabet, and is really great for the short attention span of the younger crowds because it moves along quickly. If you like camp songs, you'll like this DVD.

Summary: Annoying for adults
Review: I have viewed a great many children's videos in my son's 18 months, but this one is like nails on a chalk board for me. The bear is obnoxious (says "oh, man" about a hundred times), has a speech impediment (not good for children who are learning pronounciation), and appears to learn the alphabet in a single day. I won't say my kid doesn't like this video, he does. It's just not the first one I reach for. We are going to try the Alphabet Jungle Game next. Also, "1,2,3, Count with Me" is an excellent video and much more watchable than this one.
