Summary: Far from an animated classic
Review: I really don't know what other people see in this movie. I must some how be seeing another "Pebble and the Penguin" because whenever I come across this movie I find myself disgusted with every aspect of it.

The animation is far from great, even for the time this film was released. By theatrical standards, the quality is comparable to the most mediocre of Saturday morning cartoons. This is especially true with the opening shot with the ice falling from glaciers and disappearing in thin air.

The main character, even for an underdog, is REALLY unlikeable. I had a hard time at first figuring out whether they were a guy or a girl! Finding out it was voiced by Martin Short didn't help either. The only way I can figure this answer is the fact the character is attracted to girls, but that doesn't say much.

Plus, the villain is laughable. You might say that's OK for a kid's movie, but you can't expect me to care for the hero when his opponent doesn't seem too threatening. The guy has two huge pecs that suggest he defeats his oppoents by crushing their head in the middle of his chest. He has a very thin lower body though, suggesting weak legs under a heavy top. You have to wonder why Hubie didn't kick him in the ankle 5 minutes in.

Finally, this movie has the most awful songs in the history of corny cartoon soundtracks. They were most likely written by Elton John...'s brother...'s cousin...'s friend. The only decent one was the "Good Ship Misery" but THAT'S stretching it. Even after ten seconds that song stops being catchy.

Avoid this movie. And no, don't even show it to your kids. It will teach them bad things about animation, like adding vomit-inducing songs is OK.

Summary: True love
Review: I was feeling pretty low in High School. This film related to my earnest desires to find romance. well I didn't find my true love but I loved this film. I'm a big fan of cartoon romances and sweet love sonnets. Now and Forever is my favorite song. I recommend it over any disney sequel. It has warmed my heart and renewed my faith in true love. It says that anyone can find their true in the most unusual people. Hubie is not the most handsome penguin in the rookery. Marina sees his finer traits even though he's a wimp and a nerd and even a little wacky. But he has a good heart. It made me realize that I don't have to be the prettiest girl to find romance it will find me.note Hubie isn't ugly but his gentle and warm heart made him the better suitor than the manly and suave Drake. Don't give up on romance people. Everybody needs love including nerdy and shy wacks like Hubie!

Summary: We loved it!
Review: I would recommend this video especially for families with a 3, 4, or 5 year old. It was our most frequent video rental when my son was 4, and I'm looking to purchase it now that my neice about the right age.

I understand that it's not the greatest animated film ever, but it is cute and, yes, heartwarming. It has good messages and the kids don't have to have everything explained to them as they go. Some questions or discussions may come up, but not because the movie is too confusing. Also, it works well as a "quiet-time" movie, doesn't keep them up half the night trying to resolve new issues. I make it sound boring, but it's not - it's just a nice change of pace from some other great movies. It inserts messages and images of love, commitment, acceptance, and perserverance in a gentle manner. And although the younger kids love it, the rest of the family doesn't mind watching it!

I can't really address, or remember, all the complaints listed but I would like to mention that IT'S A CARTOON - Marina can have a flower on her head - Rocko can learn to fly. Yes it wanders a little, but it's fun. It's not intended to be the next Lion King, but it does a good job in a smaller scale. And Don Bluth isn't always just aimimg for Disney clones to have to be measured in terms of how well his films "compete" with theirs - if he thought he was just like Disney, wouldn't he still work for them?

All in all, I think if you take this film as a small pleasure, a treat for the kids and the adults who watch with them, you won't be disappointed. You might enjoy it, and your kids certainly will.

Summary: An Unappreciated Film
Review: It's so unusual to see a film's hero who stutters. I've stuttered most of my life and the portrayal of film's hero, Hubie, with a stutter was refreshing. Children will love this movie. The music while not memorable was pleasant enough. But to see Hubie's determination to win the love of Marina is a good lesson to all children that persistence pays off in the end. I hope that as a result of the film children will be more accepting of children who stutter as a result of this film...

Summary: We love it!
Review: My kids love the video and the music. The romance and music appeal to my daughter, and the adventure and fighting entertain my son. We're very selective about movie viewing, and this one offers good, clean fun.

Summary: oh c'mon!! you can't like this pathetic excuse for a movie!
Review: now, the only reason i watched this movie was just to make fun of it... corny... and some could see it as a gay porno... the 'villain' of this piece of crap 'story' [...]... which brings me to my next point... you can't tell which penguins are a boy or a girl... hell, you can't tell what sex the main character is... most of the time, i pegged it for a girl, with its big eyelashes and girlish personality... and the saying 'goodness glaciers' doesn't help its case at all... it just makes the movie more gay... the only plot in this story is the storms, which lasted less than several minutes... tim currey must've gotten drunk and was dared to do this movie... when the 'villain,' drake, laughs, [...] i mean, maybe it would be better to watch if i was smoking some marajuana, but i don't possess any... but that might not even help its case... overall, this movie sucked, as did the dialogue, the plot, the... 'schemes?'(i think they could be considered schemes)... the songs... the animation... i mean, c'mon... during that 'good ship misery' song, the picture freeze-framed several times... how lazy can you get?... please, watch at your own risk... even a young child can see past the corniness of this flick... AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!... AVOID AVOID AVOID!!... unless, of course, you're either retarded or really in need of something to laugh hysterically at... but it's not the, ahem, 'comedy' of this film... it's the stupidity and poorness of it all... if you're looking for a gay time, then by all means, watch this personal nightmarish piece of crap...(the characters are so bad, it's scary and humorous at times)

Summary: Dire
Review: Nowadays audiences have been spoilt by the exquisite animation of 'The Lion King' or 'Toy Story', so this incredibly poorly made film will come as quite a culture shock. Produced only 5 years ago, it looks like it has been dug up from the Ark, long before the sophisticated artwork of Disney or the luxury of CGI.

The film is an Irish-Welsh-Hungarian-Turkish co-production. And it shows. The storyline is fractured and unclear, many dance numbers building up to nothing, with a meandering narrative that goes nowhere very slowly. The different groups of animators seem totally unaware of each other's style, and the film varies dramatically in picture quality, even within individual scenes.

The animation is at times appalling. Endless scenes with just two characters talking against a neutral background dominate the film, and the few impressive moments are quickly extinguished by moments of excruciating amateurishness the next. The voices are not particularly impressive either.

That said, my two children enjoyed it very much (bar the long, totally inappropriate 'musical' title sequence) and in its own primitive way I suppose it just about passes an hour and a quarter. But there is a lot better out there - an awful lot.

Summary: A GREAT MOVIE!!
Review: The Full Moon Mating Ceremony, a real-life penguin tradition, requires that bachelor birds present pebbles to their sweethearts. And in this film, a shy bird named Hubie has the perfect stone for his love, Marina. But there's considerable competition for Marina's affections, and in an exciting race against time, sea, storm and a host of other obstacles, Hubie learns that it's not the perfect pebble - but rather the perfect penguin - that always gets the girl.
