Summary: It's Elmo's World, We're Just Passing Thru...
Review: ...it's great for toddlers to teens, to parents, and to grand parents, this showcase of Elmo's many, many talents. See, all he wants is somebody to recommend which of his many crayon pictures he should exhibit for the Monster Art Show, but Maria and other Sesame denizens love them so much that Elmo gives them away. On the way we see Elmo as the great tapdancer, he imagines himself to be, we see Elmo trying to scare Julia Roberts, who simply views him as cute and funny when he tries to scare her (he tells us folk watching that scaring people is what monsters are genetically programmed to do), we see Elmo and two background singers do a rap number, "Yo Five, No Jive", in which Elmo feels the beat and it's "Elmo Time"...we get to hear Elmo and Telly sing the blues. Finally, Elmo has only one choice for the Monster Art Show...one of the artist at the piano introducing his self penned tune, "Elmo's Song"....and alas, he gives that away when a fellow beeping monster is distraught because he does not have an Elmo masterpiece of his own. Oh, what will he do, now!?! I won't give away what happens next, but what I can say is that this is a charming piece of Elmomania that your little one will play over and over. Trust me, I speak from experience.

Summary: No storyline, but tons of fun anyway!
Review: The Best of Elmo is a collection of musical clips woven together with a slight plot. However, that doesn't make it any less fun for the under 3 crowd in your household (but even my 4 year-old and 6 year-old niece and nephew will watch it with my 18 month-old). Elmo is as cute as can be and his "best hits" are included in this half-hour of fun.

Summary: EXCEPTIONAL!!!!
Review: This DVD is great! We got this DVD for our Daughter before she was 2 years old and She Loves It! She sits through the whole thing. This was one of the first Sesame Street DVDs that we purchased for her. Elmo is her Favorite Monster! The songs in this DVD are great and very catchy and she loves to sing along wiht Elmo. For this X-Mas she is getting as one of her many presents "Guess What Elmo" from us. She just loves Elmo!

Summary: There's a better Sesame St in the old neighborhood...
Review: After watching this one a few hundred more times....it grew on me enough to add a star...

In a nutshell this DVD title holds a series of unimiginative chorus numbers. The usual layers of jingley toe tapping songs interwoven with a good story line are missing...what's left seems to be the bottom of the barrel of B sides...

Summary: The Best of Elmo on DVD
Review: I originally purchased The Best of Elmo on VHS in 1994 when my son was three years old. I have recently rediscovered my appreciation for this wonderfully amusing story on DVD through the eyes of my 3 year-old daughter. The Best of Elmo has a variety of songs, dance numbers, and short comedy skits from Sesame Street featuring the lovable character, Elmo. I like this DVD because it is entertaining for preschoolers, and it teaches valuable lessons about sharing and diversity. The theme to the video is Elmo taking his drawings to the "Monster Art Show." Each drawing that Elmo created tells a story. When Elmo shows one of his drawings, the video proceeds into another skit or musical number.

Some songs include:
•One Fine Face: Elmo and Ernie sing about their facial features. This is a great way for toddlers to learn names for parts of their face.
•Happy Tappin' with Elmo: This is a cute number where Elmo wears little tap shoes and dances down a staircase.
•Five Jive with Elmo Hammer: This song features Elmo as a rapper with back up singers. He wears baggy pants, and sunglasses and sings about the number five.
•Elmo's Song: This is the original song that inspired the theme song for the skit "Elmo's World". Elmo plays the piano and sings his "theme song" with Big Bird and Snuffy.

Comedy Skits with Celebrity Guest Stars:
There is a comedy skit with Elmo and Julia Roberts. Elmo is trying to scare Julia because he is a "monster". However, Julia ends up frightening Elmo! The second celebrity skit features Whoopi Goldberg and Elmo. Elmo tells Whoopi that her skin is a pretty brown, and she explains the differences between, skin, hair, and fur. This is a very educational lesson to young children that is easy for them to comprehend.

My daughter really enjoys watching this DVD. I would definitely recommend this DVD for toddlers.

Summary: Can't believe it holds her attention for thirty minutes...
Review: because nothing else does! Not that we want her to park in front of the tv and watch it non stop, but it is nice to see her attention span is longer than the 5 minutes she puts into most of her toys and other videos. I don't know what it is about Elmo, but he seems universally loved by little kids. I have to admit he is very cute. There are some great cameos by Julia Roberts and Whoopi Goldberg that parents will enjoy. Our daughter is only 9 1/2 months old and cruises along the coffee table while watching this and will stand on her own and dance at the end when Elmo sings his adorable trademark song "Elmo's Song". She really loves it and Mom and Dad love to watch her get into it and enjoy herself.

Summary: Elmo at his Best
Review: My son really enjoys this video, and he has about all of the newer 50 minute Elmo's World Videos. Although it is more convenient for me as a parent to pop in a 50 minute video, this 30 minute video holds his attention for the most part throughout. He loves "One Fine Face" and points to all the parts on his face as they are singing it. It is worth it for that alone. However, he also loves the segment with Julia Roberts and tries to imitate what transpires, quite humorous! The very short bit with Whoopie Goldberg, although cute, does not really interest him at this point, and it does seem a bit contrived--thankfully it is very short. Some of the songs are repeats from other videos he has, but he loves the songs, so he is enjoying it thoroughly.

Summary: Technically defecient
Review: The content is still great (see my review of the VHS version), but the execution is a bit weak.

However, the sound on the DVD version is much worse than on the VHS version. It seems like they mastered it at too high an audio level when compressing to Dolby Digital and there are some compression atrifacts (clipping, distortion) obvious when the disc is played back at moderate to high volumes.

Instant rewinding and the ability to skip the so-so skits makes up for it though...

Summary: Great, but too short and lose Julia
Review: This is a great collection of musical skits featuring Elmo!

As another reviewer put it, I finally understand the appeal of Elmo. My 14 month old loves it so much that we'll probably wear out the tape (if not the VCR) soon.

It would be nicer (for the parents) if this video was a bit longer than 30 minutes, as repeat viewings can become tedious after a while... Try to rotate in other Elmo tapes to preserve your sanity.

Finally, the Julia Roberts skit is the only one my son (and I) could well live without. He seems a bit bored when it is on and it clearly demonstrates that this little red muppet is a far better actor than this Academy Award winner. ;-).
