Summary: top notch
Review: Sesame Street is king. This effort is excellent and I even recognized the string player who is alumni. I recommend this for any kid that likes music and a great story.

Summary: This Masterpiece is a "Must Have"
Review: This DVD is a wonderful work of art -- the story of Peter and the Wolf, the orchestral music, the experience of going to a concert, and the notion of "music telling a story" are seamlessly woven together with humor. My 2-1/2 year old daughter adores this DVD now, and she has learned all the instruments. She can even discriminate between a clarinet, oboe, and bassoon -- a sign that the educational content was extremely effective! The DVD also includes some great games for identifying different instruments or viewing only the orchestra playing the music -- these bonus materials actually complement the movie instead of just being some added junk. Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops deserve a special pat on the back, and I hope they plan on collaborating on more projects like this.

Summary: A MASTERPIECE!
Review: This Elmo DVD is brilliant. My 20 month old Daughter LOVES IT!It took a couple of runs through to get her full attention, but from the initial "catchy" tune & education of the intruments to the GREAT MUSIC she loves it! The lesson of working together is also nicely implemented. A STRONG RECOMENDATION, THIS DVD IS GREAT!

Summary: NON-VIOLENT AND LOTS OF FUN
Review: This is a really great video for kids. It exposes them to classical music in a fun way. I read the one review where the person said there was a pop-gun in the video. I don't know what he or she was watching, but it wasn't this video! There are absolutely NO guns, or anything even remotely resembling a gun, in this video! The wolf is chased with butterfly nets and the ending is resolved NON-VIOLENTLY. It's the only adaptation of the story I've ever seen that actually omits the guns (no small feat, since the music for the hunters is drums, traditionally represented by the hunters gun shots. That is cleverly avoided in this video).

I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone with a little music lover, or just a fan of good storytelling.

Summary: ELMO lover
Review: This is by far one of the best children's videos ever produced. It was so masterfully "orchestrated" . The way the concept of an orchestra was presented along with the instruments, the translation of sounds of each note by instrument to each character, the magical storytelling of Peter and the Wolf, and how the learning process presented by Baby Bear related to the unison of a music band, especially the "teamwork" concept. My son is only 17 months and is already LOVING every minute of it. He even gets into the suspense of the story when Peter (ELMO) is trapped and tries to find a way to get to the wolf. This musical production deserves an OSCAR!!!! By the way, my HUSBAND even looks forward to this video now everytime my son pops it in.

Summary: Not enough Elmo for younger toddlers
Review: This is cute and clever and my older son, who is four, truly enjoys it. This may not be the best choice, however, for younger toddlers who are just discovering Elmo. It was given to my older child when he was 18 months-old and it sat unwatched until he was three because it didn't hold his attention. I've had the same experience with my youngest son, who is now 18 month-old. He adores Elmo and enjoys other Elmo videos very much, but the segments in this story where Elmo himself isn't present, and there seem to be a lot, don't seem well-suited to very short attention spans. The musical segments are a bit more sophisticated and the storyline itself requires a bit more maturity than the other Elmo videos.

This isn't meant as a criticism because it is charming and educational tale, it's just a caution that, in my experience, this one is better suited to the video collections of older toddlers and preschoolers.

Summary: In a class by itself
Review: This was my son's favorite video for close to a year--he has recently turned three, and become enamored of Elmo's Wild Wild West. The story that brackets "Peter and the Wolf" is entertaining in its own right, and manages to convey information not only about music, but such other things as cooperation and good theater behavior. The reviewer below who took the video out a few minutes in after seeing a muppet (in the part of one of "Peter's" hunters) carrying a pop gun, should have watched further. Great care has been taken to remove violent or too scary elements from the original story. All in all, this video is a great introduction to classical music for children, and easy for the grownups to sit through as well.

Summary: Please.... mommy put something else in
Review: This was the worst Elmo dvd yet. It lost my childs attention thoughout the whole movie. Then only part that he actually watched was the very beginning. This movie is nothing like Elmo in Grouchland, or CinderElmo..... which were great and my son will sit and watch both of those over and over again..... they really captured his attention. He loves them!!!! Unike the Peter and the Wolf movie. I would not recommend this at all!

Summary: A little slow at first, but VERY cute
Review: Typical Sesame Street! What a great opportunity for children to learn how music can help tell a story. It is very straight forward in that regard. Plus, my 2-and-a half year old was mesmerized! My only complaint, and it is minor, is that the first few minutes are a little slow as they introduce all the instruments that will be heard. Other than that, the whole family loved it.
