Summary: Good movie but not so good DVD picture
Review: I ordered the DVD version of this movie and although its a terrific movie, I am very disappointed in the DVD picture quality. It is quite blurry. It is not unwatchable, but a DVD version is usually a good, clear picture. I already had the movie on VHS which was unfortunately recorded on EP which is very poor quality. Why do they ruin a perfectly good movie by saving a few cents and recording in EP. So I only bought the DVD because of the poor quallity picture of the VHS. The DVD picture was a little better than the VHS EP version, but not nearly as good as it should have been for a DVD transfer.
I have seen the movie before, and its a great movie with excellent performances by all. Lesley Ann Warren was delightful as Cinderella and Stuart Damon is a very suitable Prince. They sang well together. I also liked Jo Van Fleet and the two ugly step sisters and of course Ginger Rogers and Walter Pidgeon were wonderful as always. Also good was Celeste Holm. The Rodgers and Hammerstein score has some beatiful songs. This movie is suitable for all ages. You don't need to be a kid to enjoy it.
The picture is in full screen and the DVD has a few extras including interviews with Lesley Ann Warren, Stuart Damon and Celeste Holm as they look today and lists the movies they were in. The movie itself is worth 5 stars, but for the not-so-good quality picture (in my opinion), I am giving it 4.

Summary: Absolutely The Best !!!
Review: This is the definitive version of Cinderella. Heart warming, delightful and that's an understatement! Leslie Ann Warren makes it come alive. She made a BEAUTIFUL Cinderella. The feeling she put into it makes it seem real rather than fantasy. The best scene is at the end when the Prince tries the slipper on Cinderella's foot. The emotion that both Leslie and Stuart Damon put into it is simply beautiful. The feeling given by all the main cast is amazing. I'm 46 and I've loved this version ever since I first saw it as a kid. If you have no heart, you won't enjoy it. If you do, you won't go wrong buying it. : )
My ONLY problem with the DVD is the claim that the recording was remastered. In my several years old VHS tape, there is a color shift in an early scene. It's also on the DVD. Towards the end there is a slight glitch in the soundtrack on my tape. Same glitch on the DVD. One wonders what it was remastered from? In spite of those 2 minor problems, the quality is excellent and the added tracks are a plus. Especially the mini documentary including interviews with Miss Warren, Stuart Damon and Celeste Holm. Over all a great DVD. The story alone makes it worth the money!
Regarding some of the other reviews, I take exception to the poor quality claim. Mine is excellent. I can only assume there is a bad batch of them out there that should have been returned. The over all picture quality of my DVD is BETTER than my VHS. I have only heard the sound over my PC speakers but they are quality speakers and the sound is excellent.
Thank you Leslie Ann Warren, Stuart Damon and the rest. Thank you Rodgers and Hammerstein. And Thank you Amazon.com for helping to make it available.

Summary: Is the JULIE ANDREWS Version Available for DVD or NOT???
Review: I read or heard that the 1957 JULIE ANDREWS version of Cinderella was not saved, but I've just seen lots of scenes from it on a PBS special about Rogers and Hammerstein. And it looked great! Sadly, the 1965 color version with Leslie Ann Warren is not nearly as good. Try listening to the CD with Julie Andrews and then watching the Leslie Ann Warren version. You might agree. Lets have the Julie Andrews version on DVD!!!

Summary: "Things are happening every day."
Review: In 1965 i was 17 and couldn't wait to start my life on the stage in musical theatre. I knew that there was another stage version with Julie Andrews but never had the chance to see it. My review is about this one.As soon as the TV special ended i couldn't wait until next year for the studio to run "Cinderella" again. Isn't it wonderful in todays age that whenever we want to watch this heart warming classic we can. I still hold this so dear to my heart and have always wanted to play the part of "the prince." I had memorized every line and every song to exactly the way he spoke and sang each song. The words to the song "Do I love You" still to this day have very strong meaning to me and i have used them with my life long partner. What wonderful words and music. This is truly a wonderful TV classic. I just wish they could have re-channeled the sound to 5.1,,,,,can you imagine what that would sound like? The politically correct version that Disney did a few years back with Brandy is an insult. Again, some classics should not be tampered with.

Summary: lamp lady
Review: i saw this film a long time ago, when I was 3 or 4. Of course I didn't know who Ginger rogers was, and the only thing I really remember about her performance is that she puts a lamp shade over her head. well, no wonder I'm not surprised that she brings a smile to my face in all her movies. she's a natural.

Summary: Boring!
Review: This is a horrible version of R&H's Cinderella. The first song by the prince is truly awful. I can see why it was left out of the new version. Speaking of which, this might have been good for it's time but nowadays there's a much better version: The Whitney Houston/Brandy version is a colorful, lavish production of the fantastic musical with an all-star cast including the amazing Bernadette Peters. Also, it has three added songs that this version does not have. Rent it, buy it, whatever, but stay FAR away from this film!

Summary: Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella (1965)
Review: What a delight that this special version of Cinderella has been re-released! I can still remember 1969 at the age of 5- the first year I saw this production on television - how wonderful it was. I waited anxiously every year to see it again on television. This is a must see for any little girl. The Brandy version (other than Whitney Houston's lovely voice) cannot come close to the original!

Summary: Impossible!
Review: ...for a movie to be this bad!(even for an old movie that was fimed for t.v) The sets were horrible and very fake looking. I could have forgot about the sets if the actor and singing was good or even ok. But the acting was just as bad if not worse! It was very stiff and reminded me of people reading off a telepromter! The stepmother and stepsister were ok and provided brief comic relief. But Leslie Ann Warren was awful! Her acting was very chessy and fake and her singing... She sounded like a contestent on American Idol! (a bad one)She was so out of tune and had horrible diction. The prince's voice was nice though.
Well all i have left to say is please don't waste your time watching this movie and go straight to the newer version starring Brandy and Whitney Housten.
