Summary: Full Metal Jacket
Review: This is one of the most dramatic films I have ever seen. It tells the story of Vietnam, when our boys were fighting a war that couldn't be won. In this movie it shows how a drill Seargent drives a soldier, Private Pyle, named after Gomer because he is kind of retarded, over the edge. Pyle kills himself and the Sgt. A must see for everyone.

Summary: IT'S REAL
Review: I was in Marine Boot Camp in 1969. I went to Viet Nam in 1970. Trust me this movie is as real as it gets. To the "T" in most cases. I love the movie, but then again it means more to me than most people. After reading some of the reviews, I had to jump in here and clarify a few things, or maybe justify. One reviewer stated that you didn't really care when someone got killed because of no character build-up. Well, maybe Kubrick "REALLY" did know what he was doing. I think the movie even mentions it. When in a wartime situation you don't want to make friends, actually try not to. It's not healthy to see them get blown away and have to drag their pieces with you. One the other side of the coin, it IS so intense, you make real deep bonds with people in a very short time. I enjoy the 1st half of the movie. By the time they get to NAM, you say to yourself, I never thought it would be over (boot camp). It's real. Marine Boot Camp is no longer that stringent. But they are still the badest mf'ers to walk the valley. I did like the last half of the movie also but can't relate to it too much because I'm not a writer. Others complaining of the full screen thing. I have it on laserdisc and it is full screen. What's the biggie, it's mono anyway. Seeyall' enjoy the movie.

Summary: A true American Gothic Movie
Review: This is truly a spectacular film made by Kubrick. I feel that this movie shows what real life can and possibly was like for Marines. Even though striking a soldier is illegal, that doesn't mean it happened, and this showed that. This movie is a legend, that will go down in history as a true blue american war movie. The direction, acting, and cinematography was outstanding. People who don't like it due to language need to wake up and realize that profanity is PART OF THE REAL WORLD AND NEEDS TO FACE THAT FACT. To bad Kubrick's life ended, because i would have loved to see another great film such as Full Metal Jacket come out by Kubrick.

Summary: slightly disappointed
Review: I loved this film and have been waiting for the DVD for some time now. I must admit that I am slightly disappointed with the aspect ratio. I was hoping for widescreen. Someone is cutting corners, or there may be plans to release a special edition/widescreen version. Who knows?

Summary: Confused.....again
Review: FMJ was filmed with an aspect ratio of 1:85.....so why is this a full frame presentation. I am inclined to think that Warners are saving pennies.......

Summary: the first half of the movie is so true to life
Review: I would recommend this movie to any United States veteran..The first half of the movie is right to the point and R. Lee Ermey is an excellent actor..He has also played in a lot of other movies that are good to watch

Summary: As real as it gets, baby....
Review: Stanley Kubrick's film is straight-up, hard-core, hard charger material. I think those who have not been through the boot camp experience cannot have a full appreciation for this film. Upon reading the other reviews, I noticed it was either love it or hate it for the most part. The film does lack the storyline of 'Saving Private Ryan', however you are comparing apples to oranges here. That is the beauty of this film. No happy ending, no contemporary drama BS to get in the way of its in-your-face presentation of the Vietnam horror story our boys went through. Absolutely masterful. Six stars.

Summary: Stunning and Humourous Vision Of 'Nam
Review: Kubrick proves that he is a under-rated director. Modine proves he can be a great actor. This film really kicks ass. Great stuff. The battle sequences are strong and visual, and the Marine training scenes are shocking and amusing. A must-watch for any film fan.
