Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Good Value at $149 with all basic features
Review:
This unit has all the features that one would expect for a VCR replacment and doesn't seem to have any critical design flaw that the other cheap recorders have had.

Pros
fan, good 4hr picture quality, stereo tuner, small, firewire, quick tuner response.

Cons
no battery backup clock, hard to set timers, no DD2.0 encoder, no Commercial advance.

Summary: Good Machine - Works Great
Review: After figuring out how to configure the cables for my system (Audio Receiver & Satellite Receiver, no cable or over air tv) everything works fine. I used the standard video/audio inputs for recording due to lack of additional S-Video/Digital Audio outputs from Sat Receiver. Recordings look and sound good to me.
Keep User Manual handy for configuring Setup Menu.

Summary: Nice menu & options, but horrible recording
Review: My first DVD recorder was a CyberHome CH-DVR 1500 Progressive-Scan DVD+R/+RW Recorder. I was happy with it overall, the quality was great at even 3 hours, though it couldn't delete chapters & the menu could have been better. But after 2 weeks, it glitched during a recording, making that particualr DVD-R useless. I tried Go Video the DVD+RW it came with (TDK) & Fijifilm DVD+RWs taping off a VHS. The recording was horribly pixilated 30% of the recording in corners or even the whole screen & there was many times the sound went out with horrible squeaking using even SP. I tried recording off DishNetwork satillite w/S-Video & it came out fine using SP. I tried the 3rd time using EP & even just trying to get that chapter to play it kept locking up & would not play. No matter what I tried. And I thought Cyberhome was unreliable!

Summary: Major disappointment
Review: The price is right, and controls and onscreen menus are thoughtfully designed. But I found two decisive negatives with this machine: 1. The images reproduced from camcorder digital video tape (home movies) using the "firewire" connection are lousy; very "hot", not at all clear and not at all comparable to the original tapes. 2. The machine is very touchy about what discs it will record on; it rejects many different discs of many different brands, and is not always consistent within a brand. You can find discs that will be accepted, but it's work. I've ended up using this solely as a DVD player, and for that use alone it's overpriced.

Summary: Good basic DVD recorder
Review: The recorder requires a bit of initial effort and possibly help to use, but once you figure it out, it seems to work well. There are 5 levels of quality with this recorder - the one hour is fine, the 2 and 3 1/2 hour quite good and the others fair. This does not replicate the quality of an original dvd but I have been happy with it.

My only complaint is the poor range of the remote control. The manufacturer's customer service tells me that this is a common situation with this machine.
