Summary: Disc includes a few extras
Review: Although it's not mentioned in the technical specs here on Amazon or elsewhere, the Once Upon a Time in China DVD includes a short text biography of the historical Wong Fei Hung, as well as 3 short scenes from classic Wong Fei Hung films made in the 70's.

Summary: Tied For The Best In The Series
Review: I believe this one and number 2 were the best in the series.I believe this one would have been the best one if they didn't have to throw in the stupid annoying Americans that show up every so often to put humor into some serious scenes. But Jet and the rest of the Chinese actors surley make up for it.As for the action level this one takes the award in the series, containing the most overall action and best choreographed fight scenes.A 90's classic for sure and a great two plus hours of great cinematography,a must buy.

Summary: Awesome, just needs more hand to hand...
Review: If there was more hand to hand instead of 100% kicking, I would have been in heaven. But still, this is one of my all time favs. It just seems that jet li kicks 70% of the time...and it get old quicker than hand to hand does because hand to hand can be drawn out more and there can be more done with the techniques. Still, this movie is awesome and the final fight sceneis just about as good as it gets.

Summary: You Must Own This
Review: If you enjoy martial arts movies at all, you must own this movie. The cinematograpy is excellent, the fight scenes are superb, and the movie as a whole is top-notch. I enjoyed the gratuitous playing of the theme song throughout the movie; it really added to the atmosphere. Tsui Hark and Jet Li bring to life the story of the great Chinese folk here, Wong Fei Hung. I particularly recommend the DVD version.

Summary: One of the best movies from The Best martial art actor
Review: It ranks high up there in Mr. Li's amazing career. For those not familiar with Eastern culture and history, it may be better to start with The Fist of Legend, but for any self-proclaimed Jet Li fans, this is a must-see

Summary: A good beginning to a saga
Review: Once Upon a Time in China is a great introduction to the series. It is an introduction to the main characters and the story line. Jet Li stars as The peaceful medicine Wong. His skills are known in the Mainland area. The story talks of how peace is the ultimate goal, but sometimes we all must fight a war to find the other side where peace lays. The fighting scenes are well done and though sometimes have a bit of randomness, believe me, there is a plot. The semi-negative portrayel of American's can be equaled to the portrayal of Russians in James Bond Films... Definitely a must buy along with the other films in the series.

Summary: A true HK classic
Review: Once Upon A Time In China is a true landmark in Hong Kong film industry and also Jet Li's best film. It features some of the best Martial arts action ever seen onscreen. The fight between Wong Fei Hung(Jet Li) and Yim Chan Tung is truly amazing and at times surpassing any of Jackie Chan's movies. The film itself has a strong plot and could hold up against some of the best dramas in Hollywood. A for the DVD itself, picture is O.K for a film that is shot 10 years back and it includes trailers and some of Kwan Tak Hing's fight scenes(the 60s' Wong Fei Hung). There's even a booklet surrounding the real person and the actors who potrays him. In the audio department, it's a little dissapointing as some of the sounds sound a bit muffled. Overall this deserves to be in your collection because this is one movie you cannot miss at any cost. Purchase it today!

Summary: The new martial arts movie hero
Review: Quikly taking the place of Jackie Chan as new action hero is Jet Lee shown here at his best. Proving in one movie he could act, fight and do it all in style. The wire work effects are great here as is the movies overall story, impact and style.

Summary: A Modern-Day Classic
Review: The casting of Jet Li as the folk hero Wong Fei-Hong was pure genious indeed. He certainly personifies the myth behind the legend.

As far as the movie goes, it's an excellent rendition of foreign occupation in China. It shows these events from an Eastern perspective. Betrayal, exploitation, oppression, tolerance, these are aspects that this movie demonstrates. The fighting sequences are typical Jet Li, fast and innovative.

The key to really appreciating this film, as well as the others in the series, is to appreicate the storyline and how the action sequence further it.

Definitely 1 of my top 5.
