Summary: FAVORITE MOVIE
Review: OK, this is my favorite movie ever, i know like all the lines. Ive played softball for 10 years and its my life, and whenever i watch this movie i feel so proud, haha. People have an idea that softball players are like men and its not true, and this movie shows that. You have manly girls in every sport you know. I feel so proud, it sounds lame but oh well. It makes me cry, haha.

Summary: Geena Davis gives a brilliant performance
Review: A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN is spectaculary beautiful and very funny. Of all the team players, Davis is the stand out, giving a touchingly modest performance that shows her range and diversity when it comes to choosing parts in cinema. Her split scene is still my favorite scene in a film ever. And I mean ever.

Summary: Very entertaining
Review: This film drew attention to a largely forgotten footnote in the history of American baseball, the All American Girls Professional Baseball League, a league of female players who began when the major league men went off to fight WWII and who managed to endure until 1954. That is perhaps its greatest achievement. As a film, it is a pretty formulaic story of reliable stock characters bonding and enduring adversity with a big showdown at the World Series at the end. Penny Marshall's direction is efficient, the cast is very good, and the script by Babaloo Mandel and Lowell Ganz provides some good laughs, resulting in an entertaining if conventional Hollywood film. I was touched more than I expected when the players reunite after many years at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown at the end. Rather than putting aging make-up on the actresses, the filmmakers found some remarkably similar doubles to portray the characters as older women.

Summary: The Best
Review: This is a great movie, it's a kind of true story. One of my mom's friends was in the origional All American Girls Baseball Leage and she was invited to do the baseball game at the hall of fame at the end of the movie. Her husband also was one of the team owners. This is a great movie. I love it. This movie is VERY well made movie. I absolutely love it.

Summary: A Good Baseball Movie!
Review: A League of Their Own is an entertaining movie about a struggling team in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League who played baseball during World War II when most pro ball players were in the service. I was impressed with Penny Marshall's directing and the movie has good acting from Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna, Rosie O'Donnell, Lori Petty, etc. One of the best performances comes from Geena Davis as the catcher who gets caught in a battle of wills with her sister who is also the teams pitcher and played by Lori Petty. Lori Petty is a good actress but there were several times I wanted to tell her character to shut up and stop whining! If you like movies about baseball I think you just may like this movie!

Review: A League of Their Own

Tom Hanks portrays Jimmy Dugan, an alcoholic, ex-baseball player whose big league career is over. Jimmy Dugan gets hired to coach the All-American Girls Baseball League in 1943 when all the men went off to war. At first he didn't believe in the girls and was extremely negative and sarcastic about their ability. He never took their games seriously. Eventually they win his heart and bring him back into the game with gutsy plays and fierce competitiveness.
Dugan is especially fond of Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis), the girl with the best swing on the team. Dotty spends most of her time keeping Coach Dugan in line while leading and sometimes calling the shots for her team. The roster includes Madonna, Lori, Petty, and Rosie O'Donnell. This team goes all the way to the World Series. This movie is based on a true story of women who paved the way for women's athletics as we know it today. A League of their Own is extremely inspirational and a must see for all girls.

Summary: In a League of its own
Review: Terrific film! Highlights a portion of history that is not very well known with an interesting cast of characters, each with their own motivations, problems, and dreams. The chemistry between Geena Davis and Tom Hanks is undeniable--wonder why they never did another film together?--and yet her relationship with her hubby is so sweet and endearing. Just a really solid film.

Summary: GREAT!
Review: Wow what a great movie! The actors in it are wonderful Tom Hanks, Madonna, Rosie O'Donnel what more could you ask for people? This movie really shows what women can do, very inspiring! I love the part when they poison the chaparone person and they sneak off to go dancing! I thought it was funny :). Its a really good movie especially for women!

Summary: don't waste time w/t chopped up versions usually shown on TV
Review: This is a wonderful movie. The chopped up versions usually shown on TV are pretty good, but the real thing is like a completely different movie. The parts cut out are key to both plot and character development. Maybe the best example is Madonna's role, which is far more nuanced [and likeable] than the flat one in the usual TV version. Next would be "Dottie's" leaving the team, which makes far more sense in the original movie.

Buy it. You'll love it.

Summary: Terrific summer fun with the Girls of Summer
Review: Premise: All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was formed when World War II resulted in a shortage of men's baseball teams. Madonna? Rosie O'Donnell? Geena Davis? How can you go wrong? And then to have Tom Hanks as the manager, a former All Star who sank into alcoholism...
Well, just watch it and enjoy it.
