Summary: It does'nt sound that bad .
Review: I too have been a .38 Special fan since the very early '80s.
I read all of the reviews on this DVD and decided to buy it
anyway. Well, although (some) of the vocals are low, they are
just a little bit low. I had absolutly no problem hearing any
of the lyrics, some of the other reviews make it seem much worse than I think it is. But the actual video and production
is very good. The color is good and the picture is sharp.
It was not filmed with somebodys camcorder. I own the CD
and think the sound is very close, but not quite as
good. Hence, only the four stars. But I highly recomend it.

Summary: Live or...?
Review: A great concert, but it was interesting to me how the video and audio at times seemed subtly out of sync. Rather than a technical defect another reviewer suspected, I'm GUESSING (don't sue me) at least some of the audio, including vocals and guitars, was re-recorded in the studio after the fact, and it doesn't always match up perfectly. Look and listen closely and you'll see (unless I'm imagining all this) what I mean. I noticed part of at least one guitar solo clearly different than what you're seeing played. Most of the time it's less obvious. And the audio seems, at times, to be a little too clean, overall, for a live show. There's a guitar solo at the beginning of "Deja Voodoo" by Don Barnes that appears to be truly live and you can hear the difference in sound quality between this and much of the other audio. This type of "sweetening" is probably pretty common. Eddie Kramer, Jimi Hendrix's engineer, spoke at the Experience Music Project in Seattle earlier this year and told us of an EXTREME example of this. The concert performances used to record the classic "Kiss Alive" album were so bad they stripped everything off except the drums and completely re-recorded it in a studio! I'm not saying that was the case here, of course. As I said, it's a great show and I would recommend the DVD to any fans of 38 Special!

Summary: Buy the CD, NOT THIS DVD!
Review: First of all, I love 38 Special and love every song in this concert. I listened to their Live at Sturgis concert on CD for over a year before ever viewing it on DVD. After much anticipation to see the concert as it was performed that day, the DVD left me very disappointed. Maybe I'm spoiled on Bruce Springsteen concerts produced by Jon Landau, but the video footage from this concert is "decent" only if judged by early '80s VHS standards. I found it pathetic and the audio poor as well. Hopefully these guys will do a modern filming production of a concert some day. Until then, buy the CD instead.

Summary: A Great Performance Anyway U Look At It!
Review: First off, don't listen to what the other reviewers are saying about the sound quality of this dvd! I have a decent sound system and thought the vocals were excellent. The entire band is tight and Don Barnes, Donnie Van Zant & Company put on one hell of a show. They run thru the hits such as "Rockin' Into the Night", "Hold On Loosely", "Wild Eyed Southern Boys", "Caught Up In You", "Twentieth Century Fox", "Back Where You Belong" plus more. The picture quality is also excellent with lots of closeups of the different members of the group. Granted original guitarist Jeff Carlisi is missing from the lineup here and it does show, but these guys still know how to rock, no question about that!

Summary: Disappointing audio
Review: Great looking concert but fair audio. Vocals are weak and hard to understand, music sounds flat and compressed like listening through a tin can.

Summary: WHY DID I WAIT THIS LONG TO BUY THIS DVD?
Review: I HAVE ALWAYS ENJOYED THE MUSIC BY 38 SPECIAL.I HAVEN'T ALWAYS BEEN ABLE TO PIN POINT A SONG THAT IS THEIRS BUT COME TO FIND OUT BY TALKING TO FRIENDS THAT THEY WERE ACTUALLY THE POINT OF ALOT OF PRAISE FOR ALOT OF ROCK AND ROLL SONGS.THIS DVD CONCERT IS ABSOLUTELY ONE OF FINEST I HAVE SEEN. I CAN EASILY RATE IT RIGHT UP THERE WITH FLEETWOOD MAC'S "THE DANCE" AND BLONDIES"LIVE IN NEW YORK" WHICH BOTH COMPLETELY BLEW ME AWAY!THE COMPLETE PRODUCTION INCLUDING BOTH VIDEO,STAGE AND AUDIO WAS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW A REALLY PROFESSIONAL SHOW SHOULD BE PUT ON.I AM SAVING SPACE BY NOT LISTING THE SONGS THEY SING,OTHER THAN TO SAY IT HAS ALMOST ALL THEIR MAJOR HITS.IF YOU LIKE 38 SPECIAL AT ALL I WILL SAY WHAT I DID ABOUT THE BLONDIE AND FLEETWOOD MAC.DO YOURSELF A HUGE FAVOR AND BUY THIS DVD-OR A LEAST THE VHS COPY.I REALLY CAN'T ANTICIPATE ANYONE THAT IS EVEN ALITTLE BIT FAMILIAR WITH 38 SPECIAL NOT LIKING THIS CONCERT.

Summary: I could give more, but.......
Review: I recently purchased this DVD not knowing it has been available for some time. What a great concert. A typical .38 Special show, but I was looking for the "dueling drummers" that I have seen in concert. Love the camera work and presentation. I noticed very little discoloration in the video. But the time-coding on my DVD is messed up. The music to video matching is off all the way thru my disc. I would rate this production a 5 star if it was not for these errors. And I have emailed the label and they responded that they have not had any problems such as this brought to their attention, and offered to replace it if my place of purchased produced the same results on the 2nd one. My local retailer is currently out of stock, and will try that asap. So if yours does not have this problem, we are dealing with a 5 star recording of .38 Special!

Summary: Wild Eyed Southern Boys know how to GET DOWN
Review: ROCKIN'...into the night and I AM feeling good tonight!!!

I am sick and tired of all the techno-geeks wondering this and imagining that...

38 Special is one of the greatest bands of all time. With crisp vocals from Don Barnes, addictive attitude from Donnie Van Zant, power bass provided by the creative and devoted Larry Junstrom, Danny Chauncey guitar leads, Bobby Capps and Gary Moffatt, I am GRATEFUL to be the proud owner of this DVD!

Let's cut through the chase. If you remember how to rock, how to party, and how to bounce up and down with great classic MUSIC, then you will thoroughly enjoy this concert DVD Video, as a collector's item, performed at Sturgis.

Give it up to 38 Special.

Summary: Poor Vocals
Review: This concert was great except that the vocals seem too low and rather than using the center speaker they are phase delayed between the front right and left which makes for neat effects but I find myself straining to hear the vocals. Just not up to par with other recordings I have heard.
