Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not 5.1!
Review: I am looking forward keenly to DVD Audio which has great promise. In the meantime, I keep trying out various new formats on CD and DVD, which have been extremely disappointing. Telarc's DTS CD (at $25) went back to the store very quickly. This particular disc actually isn't 5.1, but 4.1. Like "Victor Victoria", there is no center channel information, but in my case it works. It's pretty good sound to me as far as big orchestral works go. Very heavy on the bass -- had to turn the subwoofer down. It's interesting, but still misses the mark for life-like presence sound. The reason it works somewhat for me is because my center channel doesn't match my Definitive Technology BP-10 front right and left speakers which are left to handle most of the sound load and do quite well. [Everything comes together for a movie with dialogue.] This disc shows various scenes of wild animals in Africa for some reason which can be quite distracting, so it works better with picture off.
