Summary: Great surprise
Review: I ( as many others have been ) am dissapointed with the recentSchumacher movies. Batman and Robin was a horrible attempt to squeezedry whatever was left of the Batman franchize. A Time To Kill was an excellent turn for Schumacher to escape that franchize. But, he wandered right back and made one of the worst movies ever. 1999 was a very pleasant surprise to movie fans. Schumacher has released the best movie of 1999 so far. This is a bit unsetteling, but it gets the message across. There are quite a few perverts out there, and the most respectable of people can be one of them. Nicolas Cage gives a powerhouse performance of a man who unknowingly stumbles into something that will ultimately change his life. Good luck keeping a positive state of mind after seeing this masterpiece.

Summary: He can do better
Review: I am a fan of Nicolas Cage as an actor and Joel Schumacher as a director. BUT...this was just awful. Nick's acting was forced and painful to watch. Especially the phone messages he was leaving... I know he can do better than this (and Snake Eyes)But it's not entirely his fault. The story was full of holes and did not flow well. I guess he did the best with what he was given to work with. I think his pained expressions were more along the lines of "Why did I get involved with this film?" rather than disgust over the snuff films. And what about Joaquin Phoenix??? He is great in this movie....just like every movie he is in!

Summary: I love Nicolas cage
Review: I am 14, i must say Nicolas Cage is my favourite actor. 8mm was a great movie but in some parts it made me sick (not literally) just the snuff films, i can't stand those. But all in all i believe is a great movie, he is an outstanding actor!

Summary: 8mm is superb - ignore the critics, WATCH this movie
Review: This movie is one of the best movies I've seen this year. 8mm is not a special effects technology parade. It is very down-to-earth, well produced and very realistic. Perhaps its realism is what turns some people off because it does not rely on campy lines or special effects.

The movie has a plot and a very good story. For those persons who wish to watch a story unfold, this movie is for you. It is a refreshing change from typical movies produced today. Nicholas Cage brings forth a brilliant performance.

Summary: Wake Up Call Nick!
Review: Okay, I'm dissapointed, what happened Nick? I want to be able to like every Nicholas Cage movie, but this one? Whoa mama, what were u thinking Nick? It seems as though Nick wasn't to entwined with his character this time. Reeling off dialogue in a robotic, callous manner is not the way to do it here! Nick's character seemed dispassionate at times, showing no genuine empathy, not even to his wife (who called him on the phone about 20 times throughout the movie). Talk about your annoying housewife with no life! It seemed as though Nick was getting annoyed as well! And throw in your baby to humanize his character. (Cinderella?!? Give me a break!) There was a superb performance by one of the bad guy characters. (The guy that's in the t.v show "The Sopranos). The scene where Nick is pistol whipping him is the most dramatic, intense scene of the movie in my oppinion. Overall, this movie didn't hold your interest the way a movie about snuff films should. It just didn't seem genuine enough. Considering most of us don't know anything about snuff films, the premise is there, feeding off our naive intrigue into making an informative movie. The problem is, moviemakers are jumping on the "Seven" bandwagon, trying to make artsy, disturbing, dark films with revelence in the film community. I'm sorry, but they can't make another seven, and there will never be another seven either. That whole concept is played out now. This movie did not capture the seedy underworld of snuff pornography. If you are a Nick Cage fan, this film doesn't do it. Fav. Nick Cage movies: Leaving Las Vegas, ConAir, It Could Happen To You.

Review: Boo! Nicholas Cage should be ashamed! Not up to his standards of movies

Summary: This is more than R!
Review: This is a really disturbing movie. The topic itself is a taboo, and obviously there are a lot of people like me, who have no idea of how dark the underground pornographic world can get. It does surprise me that this movie is only rated R. And I have to warn you that you have to be really mature to watch this.

A lot of film critics don't like this movie. For this kind of movie, I guess the reviews are always in the extreme, either you love it or hate it. Well, most of you may think I'm being too generous to give it three stars.

Joaquin Phoenix is great, and I think it is really brave for Nicolas Cage to accept this project. Obviously, this can hardly become a blockbuster, but surely, it gives you something to think and talk about after watching it. The best line of course, is "You dance with the devil, the devil doesn't change, the devil changes you".

Summary: A GREAT MOVIE
Review: I found the plot extremely interesting andsuspenseful. Although I have always been a huge fan of Nic Cage I mustsay I was even more impressed with the role played by Joaquin Phoenix. He was again ammazed me with his range as an actor. With more roles like this and his previous (Clay Pigeons, Return to Paradise) he has a VERY bright future ahead of him.

Summary: Another Nick Cage bomb.
Review: This is one of the first DVD's I've rented. The DVD quality is fine, but no matter what source of video is displayed the story comes first! What starts off as an interesting puzzle to be solved by P.I. Cage, ends in an absurd sequence of violence and death that I didn't buy for a second. The relative ease with which Cage finds clues is ridiculous (The diary for instance). As with"Snake Eyes," a good 30 minutes, but then the rest of the movie bombs. Cage's acting is also not the greatest AGAIN. His intensity seems so acted and not real. Perhaps the academy should reconsider his award!

Summary: The Continuing Demise of Joel Schumacher and Nic Cage
Review: What has happened to these two?? Schumacher has single-handedly destroyed the Batman franchise, not to mention made two preposterously over-the-top legal dramas. Nic Cage used to be one of my favorite actors until ConAir, Snake Eyes, and now 8MM. I guess considering the recent track record of these two, I should have known better. It is even more unforgiving that they brought down the talented Catherine Keener with them. Don't get me wrong, I am not at all opposed to making a movie about such a sordid subject. However, at least make it be a good movie.
