Summary: Unappealing at best
Review: Despite numerous positive reviews, this show did not grab me. After watching enough anime, I've become less tolerant of seriously flawed anime. Here are the major problems I had with Angel Sanctuary:

- It's difficult to identify with the characters. They seem very flat and undeveloped--about what you'd expect from a typical soap opera. The main character's infatuation with his sister, while unappealing, could have been an interesting plot device if it had been handled better. As it is, it comes off as simply lecherous.

- Though the character designs are attractive, the animation is poorly done. This is one of the worst examples of digitally painted cell animation I've ever seen. The characters move unnaturally, and sometimes look *too* computer animated. Good animation should give the impression of a three dimensional world, but Angel Sanctuary looks peculiarly flat in some scenes. It feels like the characters are stuck to the background and should be peeled off.

Summary: I'm 13 but I DO know my anime pretty well..and I can spell!!
Review: Alright my first review. My name is Kurai *ahem* and I absolutely loved this movie! Setsuna, a troubled teen from Tokyo is currently stalked by pestering and cross-dressing demons and sadictic angels! Well, one cherub, one angel. Mudo Setsuna has always known he's abnormal but he never knew he was the reincarnation of Organic Angel Alexiel or that she rebelled against God, lost, and now the demons want to revolt again and Rosiel (the angel and Alexiel's inorganic brother) is insane and in love with her-er...him or whatever. Setsuna is also 'abnormal' because he has a very...serious crush on his little sister Mudo Sara. He's guided along by his best friend Sayuka Kira *drool* who is Luicifer's reincarnation and the sprirt of the Seven Bladed Sword (Alexiel's and if I'm confusing you I'm sorry. It's a confusing show.). Actually there IS more to the story than these three excellent episodes...six more but they aren't translated or even English- subtitled yet. They're working on it though. Watch this movie please. It really is good and if you question your faith...you'd fit right in. ^^

Summary: A second chance did this some good.
Review: When I first saw this, The subplot blew my mind to the point that I completely ignored every other aspect of this film. The subplot (Which plays a large role in the main plot) Is the main character who is in love with his sister, love as in Husband and Wife love not brother and sister, you know lovers.
I fleshed out the details of the plot the first time but for those who missed it here it is. The main CHarcter Setsua is in love with his Sister. He knows he is different but doesn't know how. His mom is afraid he will damn Sara, his sister, to hell. As it turns out Setsua is the ressurected Angel Alexia, who formed a rebellion against god. Now both Angels and Demons want Alexia back in this surprisngly human and not quite as violent as you would think. THe movie is in it's own right OK, so I can forgive the subplot, it works with the story and stupid me for being so closed minded about it that I forgot about the main reason, the entertainment value through viual splendor and Story.

Summary: Anime at it's Best
Review: This anime is remarkable. I do admit that I have never read the mangas, but I loved it none the less. The artwork's exquisite and the story adds just the right amount of controversy. Though I do wish there was even a slight hint as to how everything turns out in the end, it doesn't change the magnitude and the impact of the movie.the head on approach to the issues of incest and homosexuality actually enhances the way you think about the characters and makes you feel for them. You might want to keep theyounger kids (under 13) away from this though. It's bit violent and controversial for them. Not to sound hypocritical, being 13 myself, but this is definitely a bit of Anime worth watching!:-)

Summary: Angel Sanctuary rocks the casbah!
Review: I've now seen this beautiful piece of anime & it's artwork, and I must say it was everything it promised to be ... Yuki Kaori is definitely an amazing artist and a genius, as well. Bought the VHS at Suncoast for 19.99 and worth every cent. I wouldn't reccommend it to Christian's or people of strong faith since it questions God and plays upon fantasy about angels and demons. But if you don't mind it, it is an interesting and thought provoking if not somewhat morose anime. I almost cried at several points - at first it seemed corny and a little weird. I read a review saying the music was 'amazing'. I wasn't really impressed with the music but I played the tape two more times and the music and storyline really started to grow on me. This anime is worth seeing more than once. In fact, it takes at least three viewings for you to fully appreciate it for it's originality and seemless animation. Be Forewarned: It will make you hungry to read the manga!

Summary: so wrong, yet so right
Review: oh my goodness...where to begin!?! this show is amazing!!! although i don't agree with the whole questioning God/incest/cross-dresser thing, angel sanctuary is still undeniably one of the best anime i have ever seen...definitely one of life's guilty pleasures! =) the characters (and the way in which they react to each other) seem so lifelike, you can't help but fall in love with them, or feel sorry for them (whichever the case may be)! my only complaint is that the story ends without actually ending. how lame is that!?! anyways, i definitely recommend this dvd to anyone over the age of 18 (it's a little too controversial for the kiddies)...enjoy!!!

Summary: Serious Christians? Turn back, far, far back
Review: I saw this on a biased view. Yuki Kaori is absolutely amazing, Angel Sanctuary is a must for...I'd say 'Anime-lovers' but I really can't. All other reviews will point out why, I don't think I need to mention it all.
The OVA has breathtaking animation and has given the characters possibly the best voices that they could have. The seiyuu [voice actors] make it worth watching altogether. Well, that's me, I watch Anime just to see how a seiyuu can change their voice. But whoever did this OVA went above and beyond.
Obviously, several parts were cut out from the original manga. It seemed to be rushed and several plots were cut out to fit the timeframe. I don't mind this, but several others do.

Several things annoyed me severely, the opening theme was one. It's a nice theme, yes it is, I did not say the song was bad, what I will say is that it doesn't strike me as a good one for Angel Sanctuary, but hey, how many times does the opening theme play?
There were many things that nagged me, but I make a point to spot mistakes of any sort. Overall, Angel Sanctuary is wonderful, the OVA does it justice...almost, but its hard to make an OVA for Angel Sanctuary, so its close enough.

Summary: Deep, a wonder for any shoujo anime fan, or just anyone.
Review: When I first saw this anime, with no knowledge of the manga and only a few choppy and badly translated sentences of a German anime magazine to my name, it both took my breath away and churned my stomach.

I don't handle blood well, you see. ^^;;

The main charecter, Setsuna, is a High School boy with enough problems of his own, the main bein his 'animalistic intentions' (his words, not mine!) towards his younger sister Sara. So, of course, he has no time to deal with being the modern day incarnation of an angel!

This anime explores the ideas of God, toeing the line of right and wrong, love and human emotion, and so much more. But be warned, if slight homosexuality, crossdressing, incest, gore, violence, and deep religous questioning turns you off, this anime is definitely not for you.

I have yet to get my hands on the manga version, but I do guess that its ending is much more full filling than that of the anime. In fact, the ending is really the only problem I can find with this. It just...ends. I spent at least a half an hour looking for a hidden episode or another DVD to continue where this one left off.

The charecters are deep, well made, and even the most minor of charecters has emotion and personality to tug at your heart strings. From a shattered and frightened mother who serves as a antaganist in most respects to a horrified and confused father who is only in one episode, by my count, all charecters have something going to make you feel for them. And thats not even starting on Setsuna, Kira, Sara, Rosiel, Kurai, and the rest.

The story line is, in one word, amazing. Provocative, new, egnigmatic, you have a new answer and a new question every ten minutes. And I just can't say anything for fear of spoiling even on bit of this spectacular anime.

And as for the ending being happy or not, well, I'm still not quite sure. ^_~
