Summary: Just as I thought it would be
Review: As an avid reader in Angel Sanctuary manga-- I finally watched the anime and was pleased with it. However, the anime covers lets' say the first 3 and a half volumes out of 20! Plus-- the 3 and a half are very cut up-- though they look complete (nay for the ending) in the anime. I basically wrote this review to remind and tell everyone that the Angel Sanctuary manga is the single best work I have ever read and if you think the anime is deep and scandlous (sp?) wait until you read on later! Murder, rape, incest, homosexuality-- I don't care if you think I'm weird-- I love all this stuff. hee anyways, if you would like to read the manga (YOU MUST!) ::cough:: then you can email me and I'll give you more information about it. I hope everyone gets to read this......O_o
Plus! You can't miss out on such great manga characters like the arch angel Michael and the fallen angel, Belial!

Summary: Great Movie!
Review: This is my favorite Anime film of all time. I love the story line and all the characters. And the DVD is a must buy for all anime fans. It has great voice acting and the animation is done very well. If you like stories with Incest, Angels, Homosexuality, and some [awesome] fight scenes, this is the movie for you!!!

Summary: Wonderful Series
Review: Even though there are only three episodes on this DVD, it is quite enjoyable and is a must watch for any anime fan. Unfortunately, it has its downfalls as to how it appeals to the audience-I don't recommend this anime for anyone who is squicked by the mention of a brother-sister incest relationship, homosexuality, the vivid appearance of blood, nor do I say that one would like this if they are strongly religious.

If you are completely open minded and are willing to appreciate the anime for really what it is, it is an awesome experience and I completely recommend it. It isn't so much religious as one would think-there are some ideas behind it that are definitely placed within religion (or rather, the Christian/Catholic views of religion), but it isn't strongly based on any religion at all.

Setsuna, a teenage boy in an all boy's middle school, has two major problems-one, his constant crush upon his sister, and two, the haunting visions of a past he knows he did not participate in. Emotionally and psychologically picked apart, Setsuna is violently thrown into a battle he wishes he were not involved in-a battle between an angel and God, Himself. It is a clash between reality and the paranormal, because he, being human, is thrown into a battle where lives are thrown away-and the real world does not allow it. His world slowly falls apart as he finds that everything he believes in is fake.

The emotions and plot of this anime are terrific, and the artwork is fantastic. I was absolutely fascinated with the anime, and I picked it up off the shelf just to see if it were a keeper. This definitely is.

Summary: Have an open mind
Review: This movie is NOT for the closed minded people out there. I'm surprised it made it to America at all. There is a strong incest theme in this movie with also a touch of homosexuality. But if you keep your mind open you will really enjoy it. This is a very good anime. Beautiful art, great story, great voice acting, great audio and there is a good bonus feature on the DVD that lets you see the actors actually putting their voices in the movie. If you don't mind seeing a brother and sister in a romantic relationship I strongly urge you to buy this movie.

Summary: It could of been much better.
Review: For an Anime, this really not all that bad. Basically if you combine typical Anime, with a religiouse sub plot, you have Angel Sanctuary.

The story is about a young man, who gets caught up in a religiouse war between Heaven and Hell and is in truth the reincarnation of one of the most dangerouse Angels of them all. No it's not Satan, or Gabriel, it some Woman. The kid goes to school (either high school or college, never defined)and he has another, disturbing problem, and it's not the Angel bit.

Now there is nothing wrong with love between brother and sister, but the author of the manga this is based off of is sick. the love in this case is Sex. I know it's Anime but still that is wrong and very disgusting. YOu never see it mind you (but you might as well as) but it is implied many times. It's a huge part of the story and it does paly a role in the end, but still the girlfriend bit is overdone, but at least there is some just cause, incest no.

The animation is good for what it's worth, the story is good (without the love aspect) but overall it's poorly done and eventually I lose intrest. I am not a big anime fan and this is another reason why it never goes beyond the level it is so capable or, just like every other Genre especially Horror, Action, and Comedy.

Summary: Truly a gem.
Review: (Before I begin, as a note: This is my first review, so please bear with. ^^;)

I was rather tentative at first about seeing this DVD; all over the online community (where I thrive), Angel Sanctuary was (and still is) somewhat of a 'trendy' thing; I suspicioned that it was one of those 'overly-hyped' titles, and more or less obstained from it (I saw it first in July during our vacation). Could I have ever been more wrong?

Angel Sanctuary is very strong in all aspects; the animation quality/fluidity, the plot, the characters, the artistic style ...I really could go on forever. Throughout the course of viewing the episodes, I found myself reacting; I was reviled by Rosiel, I came near to tears (and this from a girl who has a track record of never crying during a movie - And yes, I've seen Simon Birch) during the exchange between 'Sakuya' and his father, and I was completely endeared by poor Setsuna. (I won't go into very much detail as to these events, so as not to spoil anything) For the first time, I've seen an anime that I haven't been able to nitpick - at all.

Of course, the viewer must be forewarned (and many reviewers have said this already, but just so everything is clear) that Angel Sanctuary is not, shall we say, an entirely wholesome 'good-for-the-family' sort of experience. It has its fair share of violence... , incest..., and drug usage (though that shouldn't be too much of a worry, because the harmful drugs are depicted for what they are: harmful.). Those who faint at the sight of blood, are extremely close-minded, or have little children that may wander in at the wrong moment (again, the arm thing) might want to pass this up. However, I otherwise STRONGLY suggest that you give Angel Sanctuary a try: you will not forget it.

Summary: If you get this one, be prepared - you WILL want the manga
Review: Angel Sanctuary, based on the homonymous manga, is a three OVA series, comprised on this DVD by CPM. This anime features slightly above the average animation, and being a 2000 release, it is far better than many older great animation. Image quality is also top-notch (and the disc is dual-layer, great for a 90 minutes show), the second disc I got from CPM (after Utena: The Movie) that made me wonder why they where making it wrong earlier (the Utena Movie DVD happens to have better image than the japanese release, and from a CPM release, this is A LOT).

The plot comprises a part of the manga, when Setsuna finds the truth about himself and his angelic past, and revolves around the love between him and his sister. If for you that enough to lead anybody for eternal damnation, get away from this disc, as it is just what is on the surface, and this one goes WAY deep, questioning heaven, hell and God on a intricate way. Of course, these three OVAs deals with a lot of plot, but in the end you will be wondering if there will be more of it, as the story had just begun (and if you watched the scenes AFTER the credits rolled on the third episode, you know what I mean).

This shoujo anime may not be to everyone, but if you are into this kind of subversive stuff, then Angel Sanctuary may be just what you are looking for entertainment.

Summary: IIncredible complete...
Review: You won't believe that just 3 episodes can be so well done and very well told.

I just bought this dvd because I love angels, especially in anime. What I didn't know was that it was going to be so spectacular and that the atmosphere was going to be a gothic one.

As I said, don't think that just for it's short running time (90 min.) it's rushed or incomplete, all the contrary.

The animation is just SUPERB!!!

Oh, and this one is not for kids or for everyone for that matter. It includes evrything that could offend anyone: drug use, homosexuality (nothing in concrete, just the feeling), incest... So be warned.

If you think you're an open minded person and/or want to try something different, this one is the right choice.

Summary: Dark and Mysterious
Review: I was drawn to this wonderful series by the amazing artwork of Kaori Yuki. It is nothing but breathtaking!!! Setsuna Mudou is a blond and gorgeous hunk! (Although he's a little weird...) At first the story sounds really nasty to me (what is this? a brother in love with his sister?) But if you watch the anime or read the manga you'll eventually come to understand the pain and sorrow that he has to go through to commit a forbidden love. Although the anime is VERY brief comparing to the manga (I have to admit it left out so many wonderful details) and the anime art is not as exceptional as Kaori Yuki's, but the visuals and music alone make up for everything! This series is out of this world. It has everything, drama, horror, fantasy, and romance. Its my favorite so far and I currently own both shonen and shojo manga and anime such as Biohunter, Vampire Princess Miyu, X, Clover, Sakura Diaries, Serial Experiment Lain, 3x3 Eyes, DBZ, Slayers, Fushigi Yugi, KOR, Vampire Hunder D, Ninja Scroll, Trigun...But I'm telling you I like Angel Sanctuary best!!! If you're tired of watching the same old anime with recurring themes and looking for something new and exciting, I strongly recommend "Angel Sanctuary," especially to those with a strange, twisted taste.

Summary: what's god doing in all of this?
Review: Angel Sanctuary is not an anime for the religious, certainly not a devout christian. While a good part of the plot is the resurrection of an angel (Alexiel) who wants to revolt against god, it's clear a main part of the story is the love between a brother(main character Setsuna Mudo who just happens to be Alexiel...) and sister(Sarah) that goes way beyond sibling affection. Besides that, it's an interesting anime with an equally interesting cast. The angels aren't the classic message bearing gabriels as seen with Rosiel, the androgynous-and psychotic-twin of Alexiel who only has use for men who either love him or obey him. (Definitely some undertones between him and cherub Katan). Kaori Yuki's art is wonderful and unfortunately a little of the beauty is lost. The animation is a bit lazy, but AS is still worth the money if you can handle the subject matter.
