Summary: Overrated, but still good.
Review: This movie simply isn't the sci-fi masterpiece that most people think it is. It is no more original than Event Horizon --- the movie is a slasher movie set in space, with an alien instead of a ghost/monster/demon. As for the movie itself, well, it's somewhat too long, has cardboard characters and an extremely underdeveloped subplot with a malfunctioning robot --- but those are the bad things. The movie is also incredibly intense, has an excellent alien, and is generally much better than %99 of the movies it imitated.

Summary: Magnificent Seven on jet fuel
Review: Alien did for Sci-Fi what Magnificent Seven did for the Western. I give Alien 2nd place to 2001 Space Od - great science fiction.

Summary: Don't read amazon.com's review!!
Review: Pay no mind to the Amazon.com review. This movie is just incredible. It's a real horror movie, and it will scare you. And for 1979, the special effects and Aliens effects look great. And it's finally available on DVD. It's about time!! Waste no time and order this flick.

Review: This movie rocks!! It is suspenseful and scary. Sigourney Weaver is great, but when isn't she. If you haven't seen this movie yet you must. It's worth it.

Summary: Brilliantly Orchestrated Horror
Review: It's kind of sad reading the Amazon.com review above. Have attention spans shortened that much that atmosphere, setting, and building tension mean nothing, and audiences just clamor for the blood and monsters without the encumbrances of plotting? ALIEN is a gem of mounting suspense and horror. The first third of the film is a beautifully constructed setup for one of the best and most convincing movie monsters ever. The derelict alien ship that the 3 crewmembers explore has got to be one of the creepiest structures in any horror film. And when we finally get a glimpse of the creature, it is worth the wait. Watching this film again, it's amazing how little of the alien is actually shown. It spends much of the time offscreen. Yet the film works, becaues it is expertly directed by Ridley Scott, and doesn't need to shove monsters in your face every few minutes. Gradually racheting up the suspense level in a horror film is a sadly neglected art. This film does it brilliantly.

Summary: The Best Ever
Review: Alien redefined the genre - probably created a new genre. Before Scott's masterpiece, Sci-fi tended to be shiny, clean and brightly lit. Scott presents a more credible, dark setting as his canvas and all-too-human characters are his players. A perfect, terrrifyingly convincing and exciting movie is the result. Many of sci-fi's most important themes are covered effortlessly on the way. This was the movie that made Sigorney Weaver a star (who can forget her preparing for bed prior to the shocking denouement) and Ripley one of the great screen heroines. Thank you Ridley Scott.

Summary: Forget the critics! Alien redefined sci-fi and horror!
Review: You sometimes wonder if the professional reviewers actually watched the films they reviewed. Few films integrate the special effects and the story line. Alien does this and is truly frightening. A great cast and rollercoaster ride. As soon as Alien is available in DVD I'm buying it.

Summary: THE ORIGINAL!!!!!!!
Review: This is the movie that forever changed the sci fi genre!!!! On board the nostromo, it's crew members awaken to find a distress signal. Their curiosity leads them to an unknown planet. What they discover could mean pure terror for the human race!!! When a crew member returnsinfected by a parasitic alien species, all hell breaks loose!!!! After witnessing a horrifying ordeal with a creature which eruptingly rips from the infected crew member's chest, all plans go into action. One by one the crew members are wiped out, until only one woman, Ripley survives!! Now she is the only hope for mankind!!! This movie is a top classic!!! Sigorney Weaver should've won an oscar for this!! By all means, BUY IT!!!! Also check out it's sequels!!!!

Summary: Marshall Fine doesn't get it
Review: Don't believe his review. The slow start to this movie is intentional. Just like a good joke has a good setup, horror needs to be preceded by the mundane. By stretching the first act of the film nearly to the breaking point, the film ratchets the suspense to a new level. Seen in a theater or a darkened home theater, Alien is still one of the very few films that has ever frightened me.

Summary: The Greatest Sci-Fi/Horror Movie of all time!
Review: Alien is my choice for the best Sci-Fi/Horror movie of all time. If it's not someone please tell me what is! Who can beat the designs and creature effects of H.R. Giger? The sets, lightning, acting and direction of Ridley Scott makes this film a classic. There are too many great scences to mention but when Ripley sets the Nostromo to self-destruct the visual and audio effects are amazing! Don't settle for the rest, get the best and Alien has it all!
