Summary: An Awsome Finale
Review: This Director's cut of the contriversial series finale of Xena is amazingly emotional as well as action packed. Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor are at thier best as Xena and Gabrielle. A very poetic and symbolic ending to one of the greatest adventure stories ever. The Director's cut is so much better paced than the televised two part version. With audio commentary by Lucy and Renee as well as director Rob Tapert and a making of documentary make this a great addition to any Xena collection.

Summary: Buy only to see Renee's acting
Review: I've watched the series since the beginning, have every episode on tape and the show will always remain one of my favorite series. However, FIN, even with the 30-minute extra footage is still bad, barely understandable, and full of holes. Why would anyone introduce ANOTHER storyline during a series finale is beyong reason. This story could have been told eariler during the season, and the final could have been focused on Gabrielle's attempt to bring her back (successfully or unsuccessfully). But to focus on Xena's past "crime" in Japa and her effort to redeem herself once again is silly.

Buy the DVD only to see the spectacular job that Renne O'Connor gives 110%. Gabrielle was totally believeable. Xena...that wasn't Xena. Maybe we can say it was all just a dream....

Summary: A bit better than the original broadcast version,
Review: this "Director's Cut" includes about 15 minutes of footage left out of the original TV version - we learn how and when Xena knew about not being able to have her ashes put in the fountain of strength, and you'll see the sequence of shots in the ending is a bit different, perhaps making FIN a "bit" more palatable for those fans than want the Warrior Princess brought back!
I am not aware of any extras in this DVD. However, Sharon Delaney released a statement a few weeks ago that a 6th Season DVD set is in the works but the release date is not yet known.

This is a great series finale, a bit cheesy at times with the portrayal of Yodoshi (lead villain, with a very detectable kiwi accent) and perhaps a bit disturbing regarding how the physical death of Xena was portrayed. Renee O' Connor (Gabrielle) does a fantastic job in FIN and, IMHO, steals the spotlight.

Summary: The girl is out there...
Review: I'll give this four stars out of respect to LL and ROC, who turned in stellar performances. However, like most Xena fans, I was very disappointed with the ending.

Not only did Xena cash in her chips in a less than spectacular fashion, the Kiss Of Life sequence was somewhat safely ambiguous. For a series that contained more Sapphic Subtext than you could shake a stick at, the "Gabby's just kissing her to transfer the waters of life" excuse was something of an anti-climax, especially after six seasons. I don't think anybody expected the thespian crush to be fully consummated, but a clearer expression of their obvious mutual attraction would have been more appropriate.

This was a powerful double episode and had it not been for Xena's demise, it would have been better received. Certainly one of the finest examples of Lawless and O'Connor's acting prowess. So much so, that it would be criminal not to re-pair the two in a well-written Return episode or movie. Lawless has indicated that she would be open to this very project, so we can but hope.

Worth having, even for the sake of completeness, and if there is a Return episiode, series or movie, the traumatic effects of Friend In Need will be greatly lessened. For now, it is the end, and an unsatisfying ending at that. Xena was the greatest female Warrior figure since Sigourney Weaver's Ripley, and with the massive cult following that the series has generated, you would think that there simply must be more. Come on Rob, put the old lady back out to work...

Summary: Very unfortunate ending to a fantastic series
Review: I'm a loyal Xenite and have been for most of the series. I have seen all 134 episodes numerous times. This series finale doesn't work for me. All the special effects were fantastic. Both Lucy and Renee gave 110% to this 2 part episode. But the plot falls short of our expectations of how the series should have ended. Xena and Gabrielle should have walked off together like Hercules and Ioalus. The blame falls square on the shoulders of the Executive Producer and Lucy's husband, Rob Tapert. He made the decison to have Xena die. To die is one thing, but the way she dies is just sick. Seeing Xena beheaded is over the top. Seeing Gabrielle all alone was more than I could bear. It hurts to watch this episode. If you love Xena and Gabrielle like I do....watch "When Fates Collide" as your series finale. It's much easier on the heart. At the end they ride off together on the same horse.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: As an avid follower of the show for 6 seasons, the series finale was a big disappointment for me. I had seen the televised finale and was really hoping the DVD release had more scenes/dialogue to help explain away the huge and gaping plot holes. The plot remained incredibly weak, the characters are still barely recognizable, and it's just as gruesome and violent as I had remembered it! (Though there is one very slight deletion - won't give it away, but it didn't change my view.) Nothing new added in this release to lend itself to a better ending for two of my favorite TV characters.

Beware if you think there is much added to what you already saw televised - you may be disappointment. Maybe if you're huge fans of the actresses, it might be worth it to you for the commentary. And if you're reading the other reviews, please note that sales of this DVD do not drive the release of the season six DVD. This is due in September timeframe I believe I read.

2 stars for O'Conner though!

Summary: Very sad but good!!
Review: This story line is great and it ties into the Greece story line. Because Xena travels from Greece to her FINAL destination. It is the very last episode. The directors cut is better than the series final that was broadcasted on TV. I own both. It is sad to see her go. But it was time for the Xena series to end. I have been collecting a lot of Xena series. I have one more to go and I have them all. My honest opinion is that the last 2 series are some of the best written always keeping you on guard to what is to come next. Xena will always live on in the hearts of her fans.

Summary: Once again the day is saved...but gone forever...
Review: I have never seen a better series berfore in my life. Although I have only seen it once, I feel as though I am connected. I am sure others would agree that if they have seen it once they would like to see it again and just capture the moments. When Xena died I felt a part of me go with her. I want to see her entire series all over again. I may not have brought a DVD or book yet but it seems i will soon. Gabrell and Xena belonged together forever but now Xena is gone. I watch Hercules every day now and hope that an episode with Xena will show. I LOVE YOU XENA!!!

Summary: Disappointing ending to a great show
Review: This series finale was a horrible betrayal of fans. Not only does it feature the death of a beloved hero, but it is also badly written. The plot makes no sense, and the episodes rely on exotic location and glitz rather than good story telling.
