Summary: DVD poor Quality
Review: I am a huge fan of the show and was VERY disappointed with the quality of this DVD. This plays very poorly on a regular DVD player, but plays well on a PC. At first I thought maybe there was dirt on the DVD, but it is simply the product. Buyer Beware.

Summary: pretty good, not great
Review: I got this version (I think). From other reviews I thought the director's cut- which I definitely got was supposed to end with Gaberielle alone, not with Xena's ghost on the boat with her. Either reviews are wrong and the director's cut does end this way or somehow the dvds labeled director's cut really aren't the director's cut- atleast not the original. COULD SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME WHICH OF THESE IS RIGHT??

I never saw the finale on television, so I don't have anything to compare my to. If there are two versions of the finale, a dvd with both versions should really be released.

This episode was pretty good. I was expecting somewhat more from a finale, but it was no where near as bad as some say. Alot of this series was about redemption and forgiveness. The episode going back and forth from the present to flashbacks of something that happpened when Xena was evil was very interesting and a great idea for the finale- goes to show how far Xena has come.

Given the circumstances, Xena did the right thing in the end- for others AND for herself- she already had to live with doing so much evil in the past, then finding out that what she did resulted in so many deaths and that the she had to stay dead in order to save their souls, what choice did she really have? And Xena had to die way before Gaberielle considering that previous episode where they have to travel forward to another of their incarnations- the person Xena was was very old, and the person Gaberielle was was really young. So, obviously Xena had to die first in order to be reborn first.

I don't think that it was really necessary for Xena to be beheaded though, seeing her the way Gaberielle saw her after she was killed (those of you who have seen this will know what I am talking about) was really awful.

Summary: A must have for any Xena fan
Review: This is a must have to finish out any Xena collection. The DVD version was fabulous with commentation from the people who made it. The commentation helped to explain what the creators were thinking at different stages of the episode.

Summary: I Love Xena
Review: I may be a bit young but as I first started watching tv, Xena was among the top 5 shows I had to watch. I have always loved Xena and the fantastic episodes with Gabrielle and I have to rate any and all of the Xena movies with a 5 star rating. After this, I can now say that I have seen every episode at least twice. Thank you.
~Sid the Kid~
p.s. She will always be in our hearts if not on tv.

Summary: Xena: The Last Battleground
Review: This is the best episode of Xena! It's depressing because it's the last one, but it's a good episode! I highly recommend it!!

Summary: The God of War was the key...
Review: i've loved the Xena/Herc series since i saw that first episode on the USA channel. great show. i was saddened to see it ended. while many despise the last episode, i loved it. gotta love the fall of the gods...and then there's always that sexy, hunky, scrumptious Kevin Smith (Ares, God of War) to brighten up any episode.*soft sad look* may he rest in peace...

Summary: Very Disappointing
Review: I am a very big fan of Xena: Warrior Princess. That's why I was very disappointed in the series finale. I wish they would have stayed in Greece or something or at least gotten a better story line. I think they should have brought back some old characters or something and why did Xena have to die? Grrr... A very disappointing ending to one of my favorite shows :o(

Summary: Tragic in more ways than one
Review: Director Tapert & writer Stewart wanted to do a remake of "A Chinese Ghost Story" & used the finale of "Xena: Warrior Princess" to do it. They introduced a whole new storyline, another new afterlife (with rules & regulations) & left lots of loose ends knowing full well no sequels were likely in the near future.

The photography was hazily pretty. The logic of the script was incoherent. Xena is supposed to be guilty of a massacre but the way it was filmed makes it seem like self-defense. A bit of film was added at the end to try to quell fan outrage but it only undercuts the supposed idea of redemptive sacrifice. The performances of Lucy Lawless & the supporting cast were uneven. Renee O'Connor, sadly underused, was magnificent.

The commentary has Tapert grumbling about places where he's not sure the audience will get things. He puts Lucy & Renee on the spot about the dreaded "side of beef" scene, which now even Lucy thinks might have been too much. I didn't get much insight from it.

Giving us new characters & situations we didn't know or care about made for boredom. Having Xena choose these over her soulmate Gabrielle was infuriating. For me & most of my friends this finale retroactively ruined the series.

If you love Xena & you've never seen this one- by all means skip it. For god's sake don't pay money for it.

Summary: The WORST Finale in TV History
Review: What a disappointment. A bridge way too far. Mr. Tapert self-destructs his own creation. This once great series which gave us four wonderful seasons should have ended with the brilliant "Fallen Angel" at the beginning of Season Five and would be remembered as the groundbreaking classic is was meant to be. Killing your shero is bad enough, but decapitating her and hanging her out to dry is simply unforgivably disgusting. Watch "A Day in the Life" or "The Debt" if you want to see near-perfect episodes.
