Summary: No need for a computer anymore!
Review: The think I really like about this player is that I do not need to transfer the music to a computer then to the player. I can plug it into my CD Player, and pull the files off that way.

Great for preserving my CDs, burn em once, and use the Classic Player to listen!!!!

Summary: Yuck
Review: This is a remarkable piece of junk. It freezes up after most songs and the play button popped out of mine. You should avoid products made by this no-name company. Their customer service was also a complete waste of time. Avoid, avoid, avoid products by Classic.

Summary: Does just what it is suppose to.
Review: This is my first experience with a HD mp3 player so I don't have a lot to compare it with. I also have a Rio Volt 250 CD mp3 player and I can say that the sound from the CHD1000 is just as good. The Music Match software that comes with the player is faster than the one you can download for free and then pay for as a plus version. I bought the plus version before I got the CHD1000. The 6.0plus that comes with the CHD1000 will rip about 2 times faster than the 7.0 plus version now offered for download. I had to install the driver into Windows XP. The installation went smooth although the driver isn't signed and XP protested in its normal way. The driver hasn't caused any problems so far. The software lets you connect to the player via mini USB cable. You can send mp3 WMA files to the player and you can set up folders to send the music too. You cannot however upload anything from the player to your computer. This might be a feature that further models might have. Once you get your music downloaded from the computer into the player, it works beautifully. You can navigate through the folders finding the album you want and then select the song you want to hear. I wish you could do this while playing. Once you start navigating the music stops until you settle on a selection. A big plus is its ability to record from analog source. This means it has a built in AD converter. I know you can record from stereo etc. It should work using a small mixer and microphones to record live as well. All in all though I think it is well worth the money.

Summary: Time Bomb
Review: This is one of the most frustrating electronic devices I have ever owned. It works great to start with. Simple usb and power hook up using musicmatch. But handle with care because with time and use the buttens fall off. Don't think it was just that one that I got. I sent it back and they gave me a new one, the buttons fell off, I sent it back again, the buttons fell off again. I'm on my last one, if it breaks again, i'm going to ipod or something. This is a great mp3 player to have if you like making buttons out of paper and hot glue.

Summary: Loved it...dealt with it....now I hate it
Review: This was one of the first mp3 jukeboxes on the market, so the memory was a huge draw for me. Within two weeks, the buttons started popping in and out of the machine and the machine would randomly freeze. I returned it and got a new device and not only did it have the same problems, but also the sound was mediocre and I had to tape my headphone chord to the device in order to get sound in both the left and right ears. I got frustrated ... get something else.

Summary: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Wasted
Review: Well, after reading these reviews and some one another site selling these, I've come to a conclusion that you have to be somewhat intelligent to use this. It is not that hard to install the software, just install it, and then uninstall musicmatch. Musicmatch is horrible, I'm using edigitals Music Explorer to send everything to the Xp3, so I'm pretty much set. The install cd will tell you it doesn't work with XP, but just hit continue anyway and you're all set. It isn't hard to use, at all.

Summary: CHD1000 website
Review: Well, I am cheap. This is the only hard drive style MP3 player that is (cheap). Everything else comparable is 2X+ the price.

FYI: You need to create two diretory levels before you are able to store your music. (example: Artist/album)

The Good:
Inexpensive compared to similar products.
10Gig storage. Lots of music can be stored.
Volume is LOUD when played through my sony headphones. (Didn't try the cheap looking buds that came with the unit). No distortion at max volume.
Battery included lasted all day! Can't beat that. I can charge it over night.

The Untestd but good features:
I haven't been able to figure out how to record MP3's with it, but I saw it had this capability.
Dont need PC, can record from CD player.

TheBad:
Documentation is from China.
No way I can find to get the MP3 back to my PC though.
No easy way to browse while music is playing.
Browsing is one song at a time. (Could be better)

The worst:
I am hoping I got 2 lemons and my next one will not have the problems. ...BR>I have had two units with same problem. I believe the hard drives are having seek issues.I hear clicking from the unit when the problem occures. (So may be a defective component)
Unit 1: Create A test Directory. Create a sub directory call mymusic. Tried to download60+ songs. It gotstuck at song 10. Started clicking. Tried many time to get more musicon the unit, but no luck. Created several more directories, and finallgot one to accept 60+ songs. created another and put songs inthere also. (was trying to get lots of songs on device).Anyway, after about a week of testing it, had it lockup on me and was clicking. Sentback toTiger.
Unit2:
This one was worse. I got 10 songs on it and that was all I could get on it. Tried the work around I used above with multiple directories, but no luck. sent it back today.

Overall I think the unit could use lots of improvements, but all I want is lots of songs randomly playing with good volume. This unit should do that for me if I can get the mp3s onto the device. I will see with this next unit. If not, I needto look around some more. iPOD is nice but much more $$$. I heard good things about dell.

2004/03/14 UPDATE - The third unit worked great! The other two were lemons. I've been using for months now and no issues. I've uploaded tons of music without any glitches. I can create pLaylists and upload them to different directories on the unit.
TigerDirect took two defective units back without too many questions. I would rate this unit a 5 star if I didnt get the lemons. It does exactly what I want.

2004/03/19 Update - See philavs1876 review. I used "Music Explorer" he recommended and can move ANY file (.txt ect) to the player and back to a PC! I also recorded MP3 from Line In (ie NO PC REQUIRED).

2004/12/29 Update - While at the gym today, I got the dreaded media read error. Cant get it to work. It has been great up to now. About 3 months ago, I fliped over on my bike, landed on the player on the pavement. Large impact made scratches and pushed the buttons in. Anyway, I had to take it apart to fix the buttons, but its has been working fine until today. I did check out the hard drive. Looks easy to replace. I may go that rout if it is cheap enough. One thing about the player that i don't like, every time i turn on, it searched the drive and creates the play list. When I had it full of tunes, it took too long to create the playlist, so i resorted to keeping less songs on it. Will update if attempt to replace hard drive.
