Summary: Terrible Machine
Review: I have purchased the computer on February of 2003. This computer is a big disappointment.

1. Just like other desktop replacement computers, it's weight is not as light as it was advertised.

2. The battery life is abysmal. Even working on a Internet Explorer, the battery doesn't last more than an hour and a half.

3. The fan noise of this computer is awkardly loud. I thought I must have gotten a defected item, but all products are like this. My computer was in a service (service was fast though...) but the repaired item had a same problem. It becomes almost unbearable to work because of the noise.

The brand of "Sony" makes people buy this computer, but for the money, select one of Dell or Toshiba.

Summary: Too much noise from the fan!
Review: I just bought a new GRZ630 from circuit city, no problem with the outstanding performance it has, but the biggest problem for this laptop is the fan noise! It is too loud for me to torlerate! I bring it to the library, turn it on and everybody start to look at me, are you running a motor or what? I have to turn it off and leave, it is so embarrassing! I know it is a 2.4GHz P4, not a P4-m, but Sony has to work hard to redesign their cooling system to let it work more quiet and efficent! What can I say, one drawback kill my desire to use it, I decided to return it to Store!

Summary: THE BEST!
Review: I just got this computer recently and so far I am very impressed. It's much faster than my desktop, which has nearly the same specs. It can run any application I throw at it, from Adobe Photoshop 7 to Warcraft III to Mechwarrior Mercenaries. It can do anything, and get it done fast. It's decently sized too, not too big...not too small...and it's fairly light at 6.9 LBS. I would definitely recommend this laptop to anyone searching for a new portable powerhouse.

Summary: Good machine for the price!
Review: I purchased Sony Vaio GRZ603 series about 3 weeks ago and I am delighted with the machine. It surely is a desk top replacement! Most IT guys I know were pretty amazed with what this machine offers for the price I paid. I also saved about [a lot] by purchasing it [ online] because there is no tax!!!
I really do recommend this machine to people who is looking for a laptop.

Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS!!!!!!!
Review: I purchased this laptop in April 2003 from circuit city. The laptop was new at the time and not many reviews, good or bad, were out yet. It seemed affordable but it has been an absolutely terrible computing experience. There is no reliability in this machine. Whether or not the device is designed to overheat in less than 15 minutes use, I don't know, but this fact makes it impossible to handle as a "laptop". The fan constantly runs making it too loud to use in any quiet working situation. The system frequently shuts itself down due to the overheating, and if you don't have a backup hard drive, you will lose lots of work very fast. The processor can't even handle Microsoft Word.

After all this, the Sony technical help is the worst I've encountered. The service is slow; the techies don't know anything about the machine. "I don't know why's or how's, I can only give you options". My options were to send it back, and get it fixed, or eat the cost and buy a new laptop.

After the "fix" it still overheats, the fan is still loud, the cpu is always cranking something and it turns every application into a memory hog. If you use this laptop for anything from word processing to internet gamming, it will fail. But hey! It's not too heavy; maybe you can use it in the long toss...

Summary: impressive, but loud
Review: i use powerful alienware workstation for CGI on a regular basis, so i was expecting to be disappointed with the performance of a laptop-- i was pleasantly surprised! the PCG-GRZ630 packs some serious power. The RADEON graphics processor with 32M handily slings even my more giant radiosity models.
at $500 more, it would still be a good buy. drawbacks: fan noise, single battery only good for an hour.

Summary: Exceeding expectations.
Review: I'm acitive in several game modding teams designing and developing modifications, add-ons, or plug-ins for some of the newer 3d games on the market. To keep up with my work I wanted a laptop suitable to work on and be able to enjoy my results. Finding actual statistics on this laptop proved to be evasive. I managed to find reviews for newer/higher end equipment which struck a bad finger at it performance making the lower end hardware seem less than desirable. I decided to take a chance and stick with the Vaio. My deciding factor was it's ability to run 3D applications, which I couldn't find any data on the GRZ series. I've had my Vaio for almost a month now and since then have updated the video drivers, which show only a slight increase in D3D/OpenGL performance.
Here's my stats for 3d Mark2001SE. Ran as: 1024/768 32bit. Antialliasing: none. Frame Buffer: Double. Texture Format: compressed. Z-Buffer Depth: 24 bit. D3D Pure Hardware T&L.
AC Power=3805 marks. On Batteries: 3153 marks

(800/600 16bit: AC=5050. Batt: 3451)
The latest Unreal Engine Benchmark (build 2206)
D3D 1024/768 32bit. Texture Detail: Ultra High. Character Detail: Highest. World Detail: Highest. Pyhsics Detail: High. Detail Textures: On. Character Shadows: On. Dynamic Ligting: On. Projectors: On. Decals: On. Decal Stay: High. Coronas: On. Foliage: On.
AC Power= Flyby: 35.698811. Botmatch: 22.168877. Batteries= Flyby: 35.669235. Botmatch: 19.710163
(800/600: AC=Flyby: 53.761398 Botmatch: 28.581745. Batteries=Flyby: 53.254200 Botmatch: 21.48539)
I've heard many complaints about loud fans but when you take into consideration the kind of hardware that's in here an educated consumer can easily see the reason behind this. I've also heard of noticably slower speeds while running off of batteries; the stats speak for themselves. Yes they are lower, but again it's to be expected. Actually noticing a differnce will be hard to do unless multiedia calibre 3d editing/rendering is taking place.
In summary I was expecting to get a machine capable of barely running my apps/games and what I got was a laptop better than most of my associates desktops. My only complaint is battery life, which is to be expected again considering the remaining hardware.

Summary: List of Consecutive Problems
Review: I've had CPU cooling fan problems (it doesnot work) the unit becomes so hot you can probably prepare your Omelette on it. I spent lot of hours on call for service. Also I had DVDROM/CDRW Drive Problems, Keyboard Problems, Video Display Card Problems. I asked for unit replacement and they wont do it. They will change all the parts but they will not replace it. I would NOT recommend Sony Laptops to anyone. Their Customer Support is not at all Good .. Please do not get deceived by the looks or features or Software they offer. I would recommend IBM or Dell for Professional, Business or even Personal Use atleast you will have peace of mind and I am using IBM since last 4 Yrs and I havenot seen any problem and it never crashes .. so much for all the Money we Spend on this Unit is not Worth.

Summary: HMMM....
Review: Loved this little mobile computer a LOT until the hard drive died after only 3 months. Not sure what happened, but Sony Customer Service rated 5 stars for their quick and easy replacement of the drive. Still, I lost a lot of information and work, so I am disappointed and would think twice about buying another.
