Summary: THE "Deal Of The Decade"-- on sale!
Review: If I told you what Amazon charged me for these (with FREE shipping) right before the holidays--they'd probably censor this review...so I'll just say "WHAT A DEAL"!!! I purchased them just for the awesome price, so I wasn't prepared to "quibble". After connecting them to a aging "boom box", loading a nice-sounding CD, and cranking them up...I was floored!

The bass is awesome; Total undistorted volume is very good; Highs are plentiful although a bit "metallic"; and the midrange is fair. I agree with the previous reviewer's observation regarding the "remote control" volume and power unit. What ever happened to a simple rotary-style control...but the "cool" slim design of the desktop drivers make that arrangement impractical. I did not notice the peculiar behavior of this control though.

Connected to a nice PC sound card, this speaker set kicks tail. At $80, you may wish to consider other options, but on sale--the Altec 2100 is very fulfilling for a typical computer audio setup, and presents some good "utility" options for other small audio devices such as "Walkman" radios and portable MP3 players used at home.

Summary: Theater like sound from the subwoofer!
Review: I gave these speakers as gift to my parents, to connect to their laptop. They popped in the Pirates of the Caribbean in their laptop and were blown away by the impressive theater like sound, especially from the subwoofer. They liked the speakers so much they want to connect them to the DVD player in their living room, for an inexpensive home theater experience.

Summary: Simply Amazing
Review: I've had very good experiences with Altec Lansing in the past with a 2.0 system sitting in my room. I wanted another speaker set with a subwoofer, so I got these 2100 ones. These certainly didn't disappoint. I really like the clarity and quality of the sound. As for the subwoofer, as a mostly classical/jazz listener, I turn my subwoofer level down so it still is manageable. While listening to rock and such, the subwoofer certainly does its job. The only minor quip I have is not knowing the volume level when you use the remote as all there is on the remote are volume and power buttons. Nevertheless, I definitely recommend these speakers as Altec Lansing steps up again with another set of excellent speakers.

Summary: Cheap, and acceptable value for money
Review: Hello,
I purchased these speakers at amazon.com for a knockdown holiday sale price of $29.99, they came in today and I tried them with some basic techno, metal and rock music. The set up was a breeze, just plugged in the basic items to each other, and the best part was that the power cord doesnt have a large bulky adapter which would have hogged space at the power outlet.

Altec Lansing is a much better brand compared to Logitec or Creative and they are manufactured with better quality components, thus component aging is much slower giving you constant performance over a longer period of time.

The speakers perform pretty well in the mid volume range, nothing to blow your mind away, but reasonably above average.
But when the volume is jacked up, it utterly distorts the music with excessive background noise. And I mean utterly kills it! You wont be even able to make out the words!

It is definitely NOT a speaker which you would like to use for adding some loud music to a party or something, but it is fairly acceptable given its price. I think, presently, it's price has been jacked up a little, I wouldnt pay more than $40 for this under any circmstances.

I also wish the speakers (not the woofer) could be of a bit higher wattage. The RMS (Root mean square) power is indeed below average. But note that RMS power is not the only consideration when purchasing the speakers, quality factor (Q) ratings and fidelity are very much more important than any thing else. A good example would be those tiny Bose speakers which deliver absolutely divine and crisp music.

And honestly, I think this 2.1 Altec Lansing speaker system just doesnt have that crisp high fidelity performance. Never the less, it is a pretty decent value for money. Definitely some thing you can use for day to day movie watching or gaming.

Just make sure you wait till the price falls below $40.

Summary: Get these speakers:)
Review: I ordered these speakers because I needed an inexpensive set of powered speakers for my Apple Airport Express. The price was right so I thought, "what the heck." I was surprised at how small and elegant the speakers were. The quality is excellent and the adjustable bass subwoofer is a plus. I am extremely happy with the speakers and would have paid $25.00 more AFTER hearing the quality.

Remember, the are not Bose, but Altec. For your computer you can't go wrong.

The only thing that I can say in a negative is that the remote is connected via wire to the back of the subwoofer. It is the only way to turn on the speakers and control the volume.

Not a big deal but I am using them for remote wireless sound in another room so if I am aross the room I have to walk to the remote to adjust the sound.

Again, by these guys. You will not be disappointed.

Pete

Summary: Altec 2100 Computer Speakers
Review: I'll go straight to pros and cons:

Pros:
1. Excellent bass; my sub volume is only up a little higher than 1/4, could be cranked if necessary, no problems with the sub at excessive volume
2. Cool-looking and very small footprint-wise sattelites (really!)
3. Sattelites sound great at low volumes and very high volumes
4. Despite what other reviewers have said, I've very easily filled rooms with the sound; those little sattelites can pump (obviously the sub can, it's huge)
5. It's a really good value for a 2.1 system, especially if you're going from only using crappy 2.0 speakers that came with the computer

Cons:
1. Really hard to tell what volume level the speakers are at. Remote has up and down buttons, but you don't know how high it is. I'm still not sure whether it remembers your previous volume or resets when you turn it off
2. You have to crawl on the floor to change the sub volume (assuming your sub is on the floor; it isn't magnetically shielded) and there isn't a separate sattelite volume control
3. Seems like the exposed drivers on the sattelites are easily dented...careful with them.
4. Sounds a bit fuzzy at mid volumes, maybe due to con #3; at high volumes the music overpowers whatever's causing it
5. Something about mid-ranges not working too well...I don't know, talk to an audiophile. I lowered the middle of the equalizer, and it sounds better, I guess.

Oh, and it's actually kind of dark navy blue, not black. Not that it's a big deal.

Summary: Best Computer Speaker Set for under $40
Review: I don't need all the surround speakers--too many wires!--so I have been looking a long time for a reasonably priced 2.1 setup. This is absolutely it.

Paired with a Creative Blaster Live card, the bass is unbelievable, and overall sound reproduction is amazingly clean and detailed for the money. [Got my set for 29.99 plus tax at another site, sorry Amazon].

Just buy it. There'll be no regrets.

Summary: Can not believe it!
Review: First, I was very sad when I received them, because the main speakers are so small that they does not present the same things as they are in the website.

However, when I put them to my computer, I was shaked by their sound. I can not believe that such small speakers can produce this clean, balanced sound.

Comparing with Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 I used about a year, which was always regarded as high end computer speaker system and three times expensive than 2100, I think that 2100 sound is cleaner and more natural. Klipsch kits can only be better if you will always listen your music not sitting in front of your computer, otherwise you want to use your computer while enjoying the music, lancing should be better choice. For their small size, you can easily balance two speaker's position to make a better stereo taste.

However, lacking the headphone jack can not be forgived, and subwover is too much( I always close it). Concering about those two thing, I give this system 4.5 star.

Summary: Loved it for my Desktop
Review: I have been looking for a set of speakers like this one. Hooked up with ease and listening to iTune from the internet is a blast. Subwoofer a bit too large but I find a good spot underneath the computer desk. Satellite speakers looks cool and the seperate volumn adjust is very convenient. If you don't need surround sound, this is a good choice. I got (...)and a free set of earphone. Good deal!
