Summary: Had a Sony...This is as good if not Better
Review: My original Sony stopped recording... Went for the Sharp if only to record. My surprise was that this has many plus's pver the Sony...higher line output, easier editing, better, longer battery and AA batteries WITHOUT the screw-on case. Skipping...NONE. The main reason I have the thing(s) is that I have 4 acres of yard to mow (2 hours) over alot of bumbpy terrain on a fast moving industrial rider...not one SKIP in three weeks. Why spend the extra money!!! Yes, a little larger than Sony, but I don't have a problem with it.

Summary: DON"T BUY THIS PRODUCT
Review: At first, I loved this thing. I mean, I got it for a great price and it came with all this cool stuff. However, after about a month, I started noticing how cheap this product was. I mean, it would skip as I was walking. Now that I know how cheaply made this product is, I wish that I spent the little extra cash to get a good quality MD or even an mp3 player. I made a bad mistake and you shouldn't make the same mistake either.

Summary: Think twice before purchasing
Review: I just purchased this player, and for the most part it works fine; however, I did have some difficulties recording. My first few attempts of recording a CD to MD resulted in many skips.

Do some research on the internet. Apparently, I am not allowed to post a URL on my review, but there are discussion boards on Minidisc players. I found a site that had about 15 complaints about this devices problems with recording. They ranged from skipping, to errors to problems not being able to recognize certain brands of minidiscs.

I suggest buyers to spend a bit more and find a more reliable product.

Summary: GREAT GADGET!
Review: I am somewhat of a gadget freak, and this is my most prized posession. I teach music and record all of my own concerts and the quality is incredible. Sharp has made this unit user friendly and sturdy! What a great gadget. 5 stars!

Summary: Great Find for the Money
Review: I just bought one here at Amazon, and I have to say, it's better than I expected. I was a little weary of this model after reading several complaints in a few MiniDisc discussion groups. There was a common problem with recording errors, but in each case, people who later tried Sony minidiscs in their Sharp recorders said everything fixed itself. So, I went to the store, picked up some Sonys, and everything works beautifully. Not an error yet! As for sound quality, the 24-bit ATRAC sounds great! Before this, I had a Sony mzr-37. The comparison of sound quality isn't even close. Sharp wins, hands down! The digital bass boost is very good, too. It doesn't muddy-up the bottom end until you turn it to max boost. Now, there are some trade-offs for the inexpensive price. The entire chasis is made of plastic. However, for being plastic, this unit has a really solid feel to it. The in-line remote (also plastic), does NOT. It feels like it could snap in half if a stiff breeze were to come along. (The saving grace is that it is relatively low-tech, and there are no vital/breakable parts housed in the remote itself.) This recorder is also heavier and larger than new units by other companies (and somewhat of a battery-hog), but then again, other companies are charging much, much more. (It also lacks MDLP, but anyone who expects MDLP in this price range isn't thinking very clearly anyway!:) CONCLUSION: The best deal in minidisc right now. The sound of these recorders is great, and the functions are very useful. Not the most attractive recorder out there, nor the sturdiest, but heads above anything NEAR its price range.

Summary: No Complaints
Review: You may read my other reveiw for this product, but my opinions have changed. I'm the other San Francisco guy, lower on the page. Too bad you can't edit a reviw once it's finished.

The remote is fine, and the buttons are positioned so you can press them without looking. Everybody complains about this MD player not having a LCD screen on the remote, but, after some homework, I could not find a MD player with a LCD remote for less than $230. Is it worth the extra moolah? The bag is normal for MD players, they all are alike, exept Sony sews on a leather logo. The bag is the perfict size, but the Sony's I've seen can fit three in them. That extra bag gets in the way, making me appreciate mine more (If you can't follow what i'm saying--the bag is without fault).

The battery life is short, but with my average use (walking to and from school) it lasts 3 days. When it gets low, I just plug it in when I go to sleep, it stops charging automatically. Great feature.

That brings up the other thing-- only 10 seconds of anti-shock memory. That is probably the least amount that you can have in a MD player, because the disk eventually gets fragmented, and you have to skip around. When I walk, the natural position for the MD player in my pocket is vertically, battery case down, headphone jack up. The laser is on a track that runs vertically also, so when I walk, the laser slides around the track, pulled by gravity when it is bouncing up and down in my pocket. After a few seconds of this torture, The MD player cannot function. No problem, I just turn the Unit horizontaly, and it works fine, even if I run. Baggy pants helps, but I don't know if you could stick this thing sidwards if you were a girl wearing tight-fitting pants.

The headphones are worthless. Litteraly. They sound like they look like. I listened to them for about a month, but they did not survive a karate-chop from one of my friends. I went out an bought a $20 pair of headphones the same setup, (in-ear folding) and they have TONS more bass. They contend with my 30mm Professional ones. I strongly reccomend that you purchase a seperate pair of headphones, it makes it sound soo much better. Give the one's that come with it to your little brother. Just in case you want to follow up on what i'm saying, the headphone's I bought were Sony's MDR-A34. Well worth the greenbacks.

Summary: we need more choices
Review: ... this sharp only offers 10sec skip protection... the new sony's not only offer 40+, but have new recording speeds so you can record more minutes on one disc, much like vcr speed. Waite until amazon offers the newer models.

Summary: Question
Review: Sorry but this isn't a review it is a question. I want to buy this MD player badly because I have heard great things about it but I need to know if I will be able to use it. I have line in, and line out ports. Are these the digital ports the player uses to record?

Summary: Music Lovers Best Kept Secret!
Review: I have owned a Mini Disk recorder player since they were first introduced. The MD format is versatile, user friendly, inexpensive, and sounds just as great as a CD (except to those with golden ears). Record your own favorite mixes from your CD's. When you get tired of them, erase all or part and rerecord. Listen to cool sounds while you exercise or run, without annoying dropouts and without lugging around relatively huge CD players. Add a cassette player accessory and play your MD's in your car's cassette player. Better yet, buy a MD player for your car and have it all. Best of all, it you are into making your own recordings, take a MD with you on a nature vacation (record elk bugleing, bird calls, waterfalls), to a party, or to a concert. They are very small, light, easily concealed, and work on batteries long enough to complete your task. MD's may be underrated and undersold, but to the music lover, they are an essential, awesome sound machine.
