Summary: It truly is a Beautiful Thing!
Review: As a young gay man, I found "Beautiful Thing" to be the most inspiring and profoundly touching film I have ever seen. It shows the real trauma that accompanies growing up gay and the trials that come with young gay love. I could really relate to the feelings and experiences shown in the movie, that's why it touched me. It explains what gay youth really go through just to be themselves and to find love. The compassion, love, and encouragement in this film are a real boost of positive self-imagery for all gay youth. I think it would have been a great source of help and incite for me when I was coming out when I was in high school. The film is of great value to all gay people, especially gay youth, it shows us that there really is something to believe in and hope for. It also explains to straight people, what it's like to be gay. The movie encourages understanding and love and would be a great tool for families and friends of gay youth. It is a definate "must-see"!!!!

Summary: Simply Beutiful!!
Review: As one of my first gay films I would say that this was an exquisitly made film. Any gay person can relate to this. It is easy to see Ste and Jamie in all of us. At one point we are all afraid of admitting who we are and afraid of letting other people know who we are. This movie deals with what any gay, bisexual, lesbian, and questioning person goes through. I recommend this film for anyone who has ever dared to challenge "social norms."

Summary: Beautiful in Every Way!
Review: As others have said, there's little to add to the glowing reviews from other viewers, but I wanted to be part of the near five-star sweep for this Beautiful in Every Way film! The first several times I watched it, I was was intrigued by the actors portraying the two lads of the story, but further viewings have made me realize how outstanding the whole cast in the film is, particularly Sandra the mother and the Mama Cass devotee next door. I'm a little worried that all these repeated viewings have made me rather OBSESSED about this film. But I don't care--it's worth it! And it really DOES deserve all those 5-star ratings it's been getting.

Summary: A lovely movie for anybody
Review: As the middle-aged mother of two heterosexual sons, you might think I didn't come close to the target audience for a film about gay teenagers. But I loved it and found it touching, well-acted and beautifully hopeful. Everybody should see it, especially the prejudiced. Why on earth is it available only to the over-18s in the US? They can see movies full of violence but not something which affirms life. I am baffled.

Summary: My favorite coming out/gay movie
Review: At the very top of my gay movie collection. So good I had to replace my well-worn VHS with a DVD copy. My only slight is how the mother treats her boyfriend in the end. I actually liked his character. On the outset he might be a "loser" in terms of career, etc... But his heart seems to be good and I don't se why the mother would not want to extend her relationship with him.

Summary: A movie like no other.
Review: Beautiful thing brings the audience to something which is genuine and real. Its about two teenage boys, neighbors , who find that love is more than just friendship. The film pace is just right for that feeling of realism. There is no jump on the bed and animal sex involves (which if it happens should be classified as pornography ) but simple, classic love chemistry. Just watch at how the story unfolds, the characters were given more depth and the more , YOU , the audience will be enthralled. Its a feel good movie. I couldn't classify this movie as a gay movie and only for gays because the multitude of characters in it protraying powerful characters just make it an excellent viewing for all. Just one last thing, when you saw Jamie and Steve cried , I ensure you it will make you cry as well......trust me, you will.
I give it 80 out of a hundred. ( If only the sceneries were better.... ) Still, its a must watch!

Summary: An Outstanding Coming of Age Story
Review: Beautiful Thing brought to us by Johnathon Harvey is an outstanding movie dealing with two boys who come to the realization they are gay. There is the usual awkwardness and rejection of this identity; however, the film brings both boys to the point of ackowledging themselves and realizing that if they are to be happy, they have to be themselves.

The film production is far superior to the play upon which it is based. The characters of Jamie and Ste are well acted and Jamie's Mom, Sandra, brings a breath of fresh air to the woes of single parenthood. Here is an openminded woman who wants the very best for her son. Despite the fact that she would never have chosen for him to be gay, she realizes that this is an essential part of his nature not to be denied.

The story is well developed. The character of Leah adds some real spice to the goings on in the British neighborhood in which Jamie and Ste live. The use of Mama Cass's music is ingenous and enjoyable.

A fine movie. Highly recommended for any kids struggling with their sexuality and also for straight kids who need to understand differnce in a much more fundamental way.

Summary: B.T. is an odyssey of self-discovery by two young men
Review: Beautiful Thing is a beautiful film. It is simply delightful and never distasteful. The cast is marvelous. Hettie MacDonald's use of the underrated music of Cass Elliott is the icing on the cake. The only possible criticism I have is at the very end with the court yard scene. It doesn't seem to hold with the rest of the film for credibility. But, B.T. is an delight from start to finish.

Summary: Stick with VHS [* * * * *] for now!
Review: Beautiful Thing is a beautiful thing, indeed...as long as it's the VHS version. The reviews here have helped me continue to wait for a GOOD DVD of the movie. Meanwhile I'll keep my VHS alive. As to the movie itself I give it 5 stars. Implausible but beautiful dream for sure, yet a heartstring-tugger for this writer. I still can't figure out why Jamie's mom ditched her boyfriend. He seemed a rather good sort. All-in-all it's one of my all-time favorites.

Summary: The Best Gay Movie, Ever!!!
Review: Beautiful Thing is a magical, honest, heartfelt movie about two young men who are coming of age in a way that I wish all of us could have experienced. The very best gay movie I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot.
