Rating: Summary: Fun, Fun!! Review: What was this????? After two masterpieces, "Shallow Grave" and "Trainspotting", Danny Boyle directed this offbeat road movie about a awkward shy guy (Ewan McGregor) who kidnaps his boss`s arrogant daughter (Cameron Diaz) and they soon begin a wacky trip together. Add a couple of angels (Holly Hunter and Delroy Lino) whose job it to make the youngsters fall in love with each other. The premise is original and witty enough, but unfortunately the movie is too uneven, combining chase sequences, karaoke dances, romantic comedy elements, dark humor and some gore that don`t mix very well. It has its funny moments and touching scenes, even if those seem somewhat lost in the postmodernist plot that`s weird just because. Problem is, despite some style, decent acting (Diaz is alright, McGregor is great and hilarious) and a hip soundtrack, this cinematic experience feels empty and lacks a point. I won`t even get into the over-the-top ending (but in this movie anything is possible anyway). And I could live without those angels, too. Well, after the excellent "Trainspotting", this one really is disappointing, though it`s watchable as an average, not-too-good-not-terrible popcorn movie. Despite the witty ideas, the final result is just ordinary.

Rating: Summary: not as cool as "trainspotting" Review: When I bought "Life less ordinary" I expected something like "Trainspotting" (another movie by Danny Boyle). That's why I got the movie in the first place. However, it seems to fall way below "Trainspotting" in its plot. (Maybe girls and more romantic guys then me will think different though). That's why I gave it 3 stars - out of disappointment.
Rating: Summary: I was surprised but I liked it Review: When the movie started I was ok what did I just rent but after the whole angel thing..it was actually good. I thought Cameron Diaz did a great job in this film. I have never seen that Edwin guy in any films and he is just as good. I loved the way they interacted together. Holly Hunter also did a great job being a "bad" angel while she was on the earth. Get this movie you will not be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Somehow It Works Review: When thinking about my review, I was trying to come up with why I love this movie so much and can't really. The acting is wonderful, I suppose that's the main reason. However, the storyline doesn't really do much for me. It was definitely less ordinary, but there was just something lacking. However, the humor and acting do make up for it, and I would definitely recommend you see this. Ewan McGregor is simply wonderful as Robert, a somewhat confused guy just trying to hold down a life. After being dumped by his girlfriend and fired from his job as a janitor (to be replaced by robots) all in the same day, he's had enough and decides to take matters into his own hands. Soon he is in the head of the company's office, threatening him. But, as luck would have it, the boss' daughter was there meeting with him. This eventually turns into Celine (Cameron Diaz) being kidnapped and taken to a remote cabin. All sounds wonderful: except for the fact that Robert has no idea what he's doing. As I said before, Ewan does a superb job of playing such an unprepared, clueless character. While I'm not much of a Cameron fan, I will admit she was perfect for the part of the non-feeling spoiled brat. Overall, they save this movie. Make sure to check it out soon!
Rating: Summary: Boyle salutes Capra Review: While I really enjoyed Danny Boyles two previous films, I found Life Less Ordinary to be a great step towards breaking new ground. Boyle doged directing Alien 4 to participate in this project, and after seeing it I'm glad he did. It's roughly the same premise as It's a wonderful life, Angels need to set mortals straight, the execution however bends the rules and twists the story in ways that any viewer capable of higher brain functions and sick of any indie film getting by on four people in a car goes somewhere where someone gets killed will love the whole higher pwers, dark comedy, true love is never perfect humm this film has. Everyone is great, Ian holm and Stanley Tucci make great villans and Ewan McGregor and Cameron Diaz are so over the top that the film actually works. Give it a try.
Rating: Summary: Talented actors wasted in lousy movie! Wasted money to rent! Review: Wow, it seems a shame that the lovely Cameron Diaz can be in so many mediocre to awful movies. This ranks down near the bottom, in the same category as THE SWEETEST THING. Both movies have talented, likeable actors, but the story in both never really takes off. This is just an excuse to put the main actors (a pathetic loser who wants to write a novel and a pampered, cruel woman with an even more selfish father) in uncomfortable and rarely funny circumstances. The sub plot of two angels sent down from Heaven (a police station!- Ahhhh!) to intervene is handled equally poorly as other parts; rather than having a worthy example of what Angles can look like (example- Cary Grant from THE BISHOP'S WIFE) the two show only interest in preventing their punishment of spending eternity on earth rather than Heaven. I tried to be kind, but this is a dismal picture and one I wish I had stopped after the first few minutes rather than wasting both my time and money with!
