Rating: Summary: Another Must Book For the Photograhpic Library Review: I rated John Shaw's "Nature Photography" book a 4, but actually in retrospect it should have been rated a 5, so I rated this one a 5 to make it even. Both books, though similiar, are worth owning for the inspiring photos alone. John in his books, and this one is no exception, writes on a very readable manner and sections his topics nicely. As an advanced amateur I found this book to be very helpful. I especially enjoyed reading about his equipment tastes and why he owns them from everything from tripods, tripod heads, to filters, lens, and camera bags. A must for the library.

Rating: Summary: Great Book Simple To Understand. Review: I'm not gonna go deep into the contents of the book because others have done that. All I'm gonna tell you is that if your looking to understand photography in anyway this book is for you. John Shaw spells everything out to you in a very simple way that is easy to understand. If your not sure the first time just re-read the section again and it will come to you.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: If you are a amature photographer that needs a boost of insperation, this is the book for you. This book as completely re-kindled my enthusiasm to get out in the field and start shooting again. His no-nonsense dialect with the reader is a refreshing break and it is chock full of essential technical advise.
Rating: Summary: A great way to spend $20 Review: If you want to learn as much as possible without laying out long green for a class or hardback textbook, pick up Shaw's volume. Your photography will improve more using Shaw's techiques than with a fancy, new lens (a lot cheaper at least!). John's language is very clear; never intidimating nor dumbed-down. Many nice high-quality photographs alongside text.
Rating: Summary: A very practical, beautiful, and inspiring book. Review: In very clear and simple language, this most informative book teaches and inspires on every page. With beautiful photo examples and very specific instruction, the author demystifies the process and encourages any aspiring photographer to take better pictures. Very highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Excellence!!! Review: It is not very often that you find a good book with excellent photos and captions along with how-to instructions that are second to none. Once you're done with this book, read it again and then go find his other superb books that he has authored. I don't know John Shaw personally, but I can tell you after reading all of his books several times, I have not found another photography book author who comes close to what he conveys in his books. If your interest is in nature photography, the small price of his books are well worth it.
Rating: Summary: Beginners, Look no further Review: John Shaw will explain the mysteries of photography to you: f-stops, shutter speeds, exposure compensation, film speed, lenses, filters, composition, light, and color all come together in this wonderful book from an expert to a beginner. John Shaw differs from Galen Rowell, in that Shaw takes pictures of the mundane, while Rowell's photographs are those of the majestic and the magical. The world has places for both
Rating: Summary: An excellent guide -- from "how-to" basics to high art Review: John Shaw's books are the best I have come across on the subject of "how-to-do" outdoor photography. Shaw is very purposeful in explaining the basics and supporing them with magnificent visual clues. What makes Shaw unique is his ability to intermingle the practical aspects of photography (exposure, equipment, composition) with the artistic vision. His style is entertaining, lucid and very easy to read and follow -- even for novice photographers. I highly recommend this book to amateurs and advanced amateurs who aspire for a higher quality outdoor photographs(to which group I belon as well)!
