Rating: Summary: Overrated! Review: This book has been a bit of a dissapointment. I'm very interested in travelling and all the photography related to travel and people. Therefore, I buy anything related to it and I owned a good collection of this kind of books. My impression is that Steve McCurry's work is a bit overrated. Some of the photographs contained in this book are excellent but many others are just plain and nothing special. There are some other photographers who are much better and not so well known as Mr. McCurry. After a while, it becomes quite boring to peruse through this particular book. Asia has plenty of great moments and people to photograph. I've seen amateur pictures much better than the ones showed here. So it has not impressed me at all. He is always going to be remembered by his pic of the Afghanistan girl. I have to thank him for that brilliant and unforgettable one!!!
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: This book of pictures is amazing. I keep the book on my desk at work and am continually hearing people exclaim over the pictures. Many of them are simply portraits, but many of the pictures make a strong statement. A moving book for any who have traveled in the "real" world.
Rating: Summary: Stunning photography, a real bargain Review: This is a collection of some of the most beautiful and masterfully composed portraits I've seen. McCurry is a National Geographic photographer and almost every page in the book could be a cover photo. Many photos of interesting faces from India, Chad, Nepal, Afghanistan, Philippines, China, Mali, Tibet, and (a few of the most interesting) Los Angeles. Small format photos (about 5x7). Photos are printed full page (to each edge of the page) on the right-hand side, and opposite each photo is printed the city, country and year the photo was taken. Photos lack commentary or descriptions and are not categorized, but I found this rather nice. Page turns are often new locations, and the lack of commentary leaves interpretation to the imagination. Just look into the eyes of the subjects and you'll start to feel their story. Great book -- too bad it's so small. It's got a spot on the coffee table nonetheless.
Rating: Summary: Portraits Review: This is a wonderful book. The photographs are incredible. It would be a great gift for anyone. My only complaint is that the way it is bound makes it a little hard to look at.

Rating: Summary: Windows of the soul Review: This is a wonderful little book. The photos are stunning and the format is pleasantly small, portable and feels nice in your hands. It's like a trip around the world and into the soul. Every time I pick this up is like a new visit. I would have enjoyed some text, but I think the photos speak for themselves. Well worth the price!
Rating: Summary: The Eyes Have It Review: This is an interesting approach to a portrait book. It's small and dense. Every right hand page contains a color photo which bleeds to the page edge. I am very fond of portraits - painted, sculpted and photographed. While I found far too many staring, wide-eyed, children (looking ever so much like baby harp seals), there are enough portraits revealing the complexity of personality to make the book worthwhile.
Rating: Summary: The perfect gift! Review: This is another one of my standby gifts, and I give to close friends and acquaintances alike, and IT IS ALWAYS A BIG HIT! People are fascinated by the diversity of the family of man, and this vibrant, full color book captures it perfectly. In fact, just a few nights ago I gave another copy away at a birthday party, and it got passed around so enthusiastically that the actual recipient of the gift didn't get a chance to comment. Great pictures, perfect size, perfect price, perfect conversation piece, and physical and ascetic quality that will last for years.
Rating: Summary: Captivating Review: What can I say? The man is a master. I just hoped that it has some technical details. But just the same, this one is a great collection.
