Rating: Summary: Ender's is the Beginning Review: There are few works in Sci-Fi that I maintain in my permanent book collection. This is one of them. Some of the others in no particular order of significants are as follows. The Time Machine and War of the Worlds/ H.G. Wells, Blood Music/ G. Bear, The Doomsday Book and To Say Nothing of the Dog/ C. Willis, Earth Abides /G. Stewart, Seventh Son and Red Prophet/ O.S. Card, Brave New World/ A. Huxley and finally 1984/ G. Orwell (yeah, I know, the last two aren't really science fiction anymore.)These books are classic for their own individual reasons. Cutting edge, thought provoking, or just downright entertaining. I would not be ashamed to pass any of these on to others or my kids as being highly recommended. There is no real need to expound on the content of the book because many have already done so and the total number of reviews at the top of this page speak volumes already. It is a Sci-Fi must read. Go get it!
Rating: Summary: Incredible Literature Review: Throughout my life I have read books from every genre of reading known to man. The latest book, or series, I should say, was by Orson Scott Card. In my opinion I can honestly say that Card is the greatest author in science-fiction history, and possibly the history of fiction all together. His ideas are and characters are masterfully drawn, his stories are incredibly captivating, and there is an underlying philosophy throughout every book in the Ender and After Ender series. Ender's Game is a wonderfull read, to put it mildly, and will not dissapoint. I can guarantee you'll finish this book quicker than you've finished any other before, because frankly, you can't put it down.
Rating: Summary: Exceptional Science Fiction Review: I used to be an avid science fiction book reader, but it eventually all seemed pretty boilerplate and repetetive, so I stopped. Ender's Game was a surprisingly good and new welcome back to science fiction. I'd recommend it to anyone normally wary of science fiction.
Rating: Summary: One of the best sci-fi books ever written Review: Personally, I had never even heard of this book until a friend recommended it to me. But when I picked it up, I could not put it down. Very few books ever had that effect on me. What makes this book so great is its characters. The main character Ender was especially interesting. He was drafted to attend "Battle School" at a very young age learn to lead the human race against the alien "Buggers", and was separated from his family. He was bullied by his brother at home, and bullied at school (both at his regular school and at the "Battle School"), but he eventually becomes the reluctant hero in mankind's fight against the "buggers". I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys compelling storytelling and characters.
Rating: Summary: ENDer is just the BEGINNING Review: Many adults I have spoken to hate sci-fi books. Again and again i recommend this book to them, telling them that it is not just a sci-fi book, one that you read one page and are utterly lost...but a wonderful plot that shows the imagination of a great author. Orson Scott Card is an author that writes as if he has lived his books and adventures. Ender's Game is the first book in the Ender Series. It is about a boy named Ender who, in the future, is recruited to Battle School...a school that teaches and produces commanders and navigators for the International Fleet from boys as young as six. The "buggers" are a new species that the world believes is trying to wipe out the human race. The IF is looking for one person to command their fleet...to rage war on this species, and win. And that person, that boy, is Ender Wiggin. He leaves his life behind and travels into space to join Battle School, not knowing he is special. But the Buggers are not the only obstacle he has to face. The students themselves, being alone...not able to make friends, Ender has to fight for not just his life and the lives of others, but for his happiness. I used to hate sci-fi books too. But this book is more than a sci-fi novel. It is a book that you will cherish and read over and over. It is a book I am proud to give 5 stars. Orson Scott Card is a genius, just like his Ender, and the book is an adventure waiting just for you.
Rating: Summary: Oh, bugger ... Review: This is the story of Ender Wiggin. Perhaps you've heard of it? It's the one about the child genius that was sent off to Battle School to join those like him and learn the techniques of warfare through the form of games. He is being manipulated throughout the story, you'll find. He is also being molded into someone that he hates being. A killer, do you suppose? Maybe. You see, there was an alien invasion--well, two of them, really--around seventy years ago. These "buggers" have since then retreated, but many suspect that they are simply forming another bigger, better army in retaliation. So, the best strategists are found while they are about six years old, and are trained to deal with the possibility of attack. People have pitied Ender, have understood bits of him, have even been encouraged by him. Honestly, I read about it in the introduction. Some people even hated him and what they felt as the unrealistic portrayel of the smarter child. It seems that everyone has a different reaction to Ender, and I found that I was no exception. Why pity someone whose so strong? How can I understand someone in those circumstances? What would he encourage me about in my everyday life? And why hate someone that already hates himself? See how you react to Ender. Read this book!!!
Rating: Summary: WOW Review: Ender's is the best book I have ever read. Simple as that.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Sci Fi Book -- One of a kind Review: This is my favorite Science Fiction novel!!! Orson Scott Card does a great job keeping the reader interested. Ender Wiggin is chosen by the IF (International Fleet) at the young age of 6 to undergo intense training on a space station. At such a young age Ender's life is full of hardships, and he is constantly being pushed to his limits. Time is of essence because Ender is mankind's last chance to be saved from alien invaders (Buggers). The big question is whether Ender going to succeed in his training where other's have failed? There is a nice twist at the end of the book that took me by surprise. You will enjoy reading this book!!!
Rating: Summary: Ender's Game is a Masterpiece Review: Having been assigned Ender's Game as one of many titles to choose from on a school reading list, I was prepared for a boring, traditional science fiction novel-- similar to the one's that my father always suggested when I was looking for a "good read." However, I was taken aback quickly by the sheer brilliance, intelliect, depth and most importantly originality that Orson Scott Card displayed even early in this novel. I read the book in two sittings; the break was only due to my need to eat food. I was completely absorbed in the world of Andrew 'Ender' Wiggin. The futuristic society described in book was so hauntingly possible in the future; the issues facing the world were creepily accurate to those our world is currently facing. All the aspects of the book were developed to create a completely believable (yet still very science fiction-y) world in which to base the story of a young boy growing up, faced with a burden to save his planet. I refer to this book probably more frequently than any other book that I have read save maybe The Bible. May I also suggest heavily to read Ender's Shadow- a parallel novel to Ender's Game, which instead follows the life of Bean. The crossings between the books are brilliant, and I would suggest that you read E-Game before E-Shadow. Anyway you boil down to it, Ender's Game was a fantastically written book that is sure to interest children and adults alike. Please enjoy...
