Summary: Dig up Holes
Review: Would you like to dig five feet deep holes in the blazing hot sun in the middle of Camp Green Lake with no lake? Well this is what happens to Stanley in Louis Sachar's book Holes.
Holes is about a boy named Stanley that has a family curse. He ends up going to Camp Green Lake for stealing a pair of shoes. Well he really did not steal them they fell out of the sky and the cops said he stole them He meets a kid that cant read or write but he can dig faster than anyone. His name is Zero. He makes friends with some people with unique names; Squid, X-Ray, Magnet, Armpit, and Zigzag. The plot is when Zero leaves and Stanley goes looking for him. Will Stanley find Zero? Read the book to find out.
I think the theme of this book is to learn discipline and respect others judge someone from the inside and not the out. I recommend that you see the movie first to see and understand the book. So if you are looking for a good book, dig up Holes by Louis Sachar.

Summary: Read all about it!
Review: Wouldn't you think it was unfair if someone accused you of something you didn't do? Holes, a realistic fiction novel, is a story about a boy who learns how to solve this situation and how one should never give up even when things get hard.
Stanley Yelnats is the main character of this book, and throughout the novel, he proves to be a brave, friendly boy, who is ready to help his friends no matter what the consequences. Stanley teaches many other boys what friendship is all about, and he covers up for other people's mistakes. The adventures of his life all take place in Camp Green Lake, Texas, a camp for bad boys where Stanley and his new friends have to dig holes all day long. This story is set in the present. Stanley's life changes when he is accused of stealing a famous pair of shoes, that actually fell on his head as he was walking down the street. The judge finds Stanley guilty, and he gives him a choice; jail or Camp Green Lake. Stanley decides to go to the camp, where he meets many other boys like him. Little Zero, a boy who cannot read nor write, becomes Stanley's buddy and by the end of the book has turned into an intelligent kid, who has been greatly influenced by the protagonist.
If young readers are looking for a way to live a great adventure and to experience real emotions, I honestly believe that Holes will satisfy their curiosity. I recommend this book to every guy or girl that is ready to be subjected to a special, different style of writing. Louis Sachar is an incredibly creative and talented author, who has the power to turn his books into reality, and who makes it impossible for readers to forget his stories.

Summary: I LOVED this book!
Review: Wow - Louis Sachar scores again! The author of the Wayside School books and There's a Boy in the Girls Bathroom takes a different route with this book. It's different from his previous works, and yet, it still has the same humor and lessons that are his trademark. At first, when my friend told me about this book, I thought it would be pretty dumb. But I got bored one weekend and read my little brother's copy, and I literally ate it up. I was finished with it in a day.

Stanley Yelnats gets to choose his fate for a crime that he didn't even commit: prison, or Camp Greenlake. Stanley had never been to summer camp. Besides, anything is better than prison, right?

WRONG!

Camp Greenlake is horrible! The Warden makes the boys dig holes, looking for the mysterious treasure of Kissin' Kate Barlow. I especially loved the parts where it would flash back to the original Greenlake and Stanley's grandfather.

A final word: buy this book. You won't be sorry to have it in your collection.

Summary: It gets better the farther into the story you get!
Review: Wow! I thought I'd get depressed reading this story but I was so compelled to go on just to see how Stanley held up under the enormous pressure and injustices. He kept on thinking and working when others would have given up. I love his spirit and his perseverence, resilience and lack of cynicism. I "tried it out" on my fifth grade son and was sure he'd reject it... but he never put it down. I encouraged him to get through the first few chapters and it would get better. He did and he loved it too! Food for thought and discussions for weeks and even months.

Summary: A creative and compelling adventure novel
Review: Wow! This is a great book. It begins with a boy named Stanley Yelnats (the fourth) who has gone to Camp Greenlake, a juvinile delinquit camp, because he was accused of stealing Clide "sweet feet" Livingston's donated shoes. At the camp, the boys are forced to dig holes, five feet wide and five feet deep, to help "build character." Or so they think. Throughout the book, the chapters alternate between past and present, and the reader finds out what they are really digging for.
At the camp, Stanley meets the other boys, all with nicknames like Zigzag, Magnet, X-ray, Armpit, Zero, and Squid, and gets one of his own:Caveman. He doesn't really hit it off with the boys at first, except for Zero.
Things aren't too bad, wake up, eat breakfast, dig holes, eat dinner, go to bed.....until Zero runs away from the camp, the "only" watersource in 100 miles. Then it's up to Stanley to rescue him.
This review doesn't cover even half of this amazing book's potential. This is SUCH A GREAT BOOK!! I DEFINATELY reccomend it! It is not, under any circumstances a waste of money, so GO AND BUY IT!!!
