Rating: Summary: Wait a minute! Review: Al Franken is a hypocrite. Who does he think he is calling conservative pundits liars when Franken is a liar too! The Smoking Gun exposed him when he lied to Ashcroft (you can read the letter in Franken's book but he doesn't include his letter of apology). Hey Al, admit it... YOU LIED! Furthermore, if you think that ALAN COLMES is the only liberal pundit on fox news, think again. Apparently you haven't been watching this news program as closely as you claim, because Geraldo (a liberal) also has a show on fox news! Anyway, excuse me as I buy a copy of Bill O'Reilly's new book "WHO'S LOOKING OUT FOR YOU?" . Sure to be a bestseller.
Rating: Summary: Lies and the Lying Liars that tell Them Review: Al Franken is a liar himself. He wouldn't know the truth if it smacked him in his fat head. He is a liberial that hates Bush. As a liberial, he thinks that his ilk is "entitled" to controlling the government. He also is an America hater. Guys like this muling, puking dolt should move to France. There he would be at able to agree with the spineless, ungrateful French when they spew their hate America bulls**t!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Response from an Articulate Liberal Review: Al Franken is a liberal, and he has no prolem saying so (as is evidenced in his book). However the fact that Franken has certain known political beliefs does not make this book an ill-informed political rant of the nature of Bill O'Reilly's writing excursions or Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity's mindless dabblings. "Lies" is a well researched book that methodically destroys the perception that the overwhelming bias in the media is leftist as well as examining the tactics used by the radical right-wing media to distort the truth for political ends. Through a study of the 2000 presidential election, Ann Coulter's book "Slander," many transcripts of Bill O'Reilly's television show and much other right-wing media, Franken exposes a shocking amount of deception. From outright lies such as Ann Coulter's allegation that Evan Thomas's (editor of Newsweek's) father ran for President on the socialist party to the use of endnotes to mislead a reader into believing that "The New York Times" blamed the Church for the Holocaust, Franken's discoveries are shocking and absolutely worth reading. I read Bernard Goldberg's "Bias" and Ann Coulter's "Slander" before reading "Lies." I can say with no reservation that they are not in the same category of books. "Lies" is not a leftist "Slander." It is a well researched and extremely witty exploration of the modes of deception used by the radical right-wing media. Even if you are fully aware of Rush Limbaugh's faults as well as those of the Fox News Channel and Ann Coulter, this book is still worth reading because it is extremely funny. Wedged into 350 pages of airtight analysis are a funny short play about a waitress, a lawyer and the Bush tax cuts, a cartoon entitled "Supply Side Jesus," in which Franken retells the bible as though Jesus had Bush's values, and a play in which draft-dodging "Chicken-Hawk" Neocons (Clarence Thomas, Dick Cheney, George W. Bush, Limbaugh, etc.) are sent to Vietnam.
Rating: Summary: This guy has no experience except being stupid Review: Al Franken is a little fat weasal (as opposed to a big, fat idiot). What a sorry excuse for a human being. If you have ANY actual ideas that make sense, let us know. Otherwise it is clear you are not qualified to opine, although it is your right, God-given, to continue to make a public ass of yourself.
Rating: Summary: Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them Review: Al Franken is a master of political satire. Anyone frustrated with the insincere patriotism, liberal-hating ad hominems, and false statements from talk radio and television's political right will be more than satisfied. Franken presents research from TeamFranken demonstrating the absoulute lying and viciousness of Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity. But that's not all. He also takes to task Condoleeza Rice, Dick Cheyney and President Bush. The controversy created by the reaction to Al Franken's exercise of free speech is amazing. This is a satire. Nevertheless, the right fumes at the humor they created. After all if Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter didn't make such outrageous statements they wouldn't be funny. Instead they would be presenting thoughtful arguments which, as TeamFranken points out, they are not.
Rating: Summary: lIes and the lying liars who tell them Review: Al Franken is a master of satire. He exposes the vulgarity and pseudo-patriotism of Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter. Most surprising is the reaction to the book from the right. This is a political satire.
Rating: Summary: If you don't see it his way Review: Al Franken is a moron with moronic ideology and if you don't see it his way he has no compunction about salandering you, your family or anyones for that matter. He has no class and is just an ass.Thomas Jefferson said"I may not agree with what you have to say,but I will defend with my life for your right to say it". Al Franken would put his moronic spin on it by saying "I don't agree with what you have to say,you are wrong and I would kill you if I could get away with it for disagreeing with me".I saw him on T.V. using the most vile and foul language at some politicians rally.I give this book no stars.Avoid it like the plague.
Rating: Summary: Exacly What America Needed Review: Al Franken is a national treasure. His scathing expose of both the current regime, and the media machine which has collectively decided to look the other way, is both brilliant and funny. I was at one point, laughing until I cried at his volleys at Bill O'Reilly. Although "thinking" is something that conservatives have had a difficult time with over the past few years, this book (even if one disagrees with his politics) forces the reader to THINK. "Lying Liars..." is the perfect counterpoint to the pablum generated by the likes of Coulter, Hannity, et al. I do find it interesting that the reviews which uniformly give this book "one star", do not actually review the book. Instead they regurgitate the GOP party line regarding liberals and Democrats. I find it hard to believe that any conservatives actually purchased this book, are able to read it, and felt compelled to review it.
Rating: Summary: Will help defeat W Review: Al Franken is a one-man (well, actually, he credits TeamFranken) Bush-whacking machine. In addition to the need for $200+ million in campaign contributions, and actually finding an electable Democratic candidate, Franken's "exposé" of the "lying liars" will greatly contribute to defeating W (once again).
Rating: Summary: Terrible book Review: Al Franken is a pompous jerk, plain and simple, and this book proves that. He uses half truths and distortions to "prove" his points. It is really a sad commentary on the state of the modern Democratic party that the party leaders choose to share a stage with this guy. I could never see the truly great Democrats like Harry Truman, Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, and Hubert Humphrey associate themselves with an arrogant gas bag like Al Franken.
