Rating: Summary: they say the truth sets you free Review: well, maybe they are right, but that freedom gets balanced out by the sinking feeling you get when you see just how often you are being lied to by the media and Bush. Al, who i am not much of a fan of (or wasn't, i am now) completely dissects mound after mound of steaming lies. after reading several similar books from both the right and the left, i thought i had a good idea what politics and the media were like. turns out i "misunderestemated" them.Franken doesn't assume people are evil, or that the media distorts on purpose, or so many of the other things that turn me off from some of the left. he actually thinks for himself, and (be ready to be shocked) backs it up with facts and research. and unlike the "research" from some of the other "fine" books i have read, if the reader bothers to research Al's facts, turns out they are right. he even covers some of the fine "research" done by liars like Ann Coulter. i know a lot of people who won't read this book because the satire ("God told me to write this book") or title (cause we all know the president and media are honest, right?) which is a real shame. this is probably the single most educational book on politics and the media i have read. ever. and i have 4 dozen from both sides and the center sitting on bookshelf, all of them abused, pages highlighted, and dog-eared. this puts them all to shame. some because it is just a better read (listen actually, i bought it from iTunes) and some because it is just better researched, but whatever the reason, it tops them all. special touches from the audio book: all though generally when he quotes someone (Al himself reads most of it) he does a pretty good good impression of them, there is a whole section where he quotes Rush, not as an impression, but by actually playing the recorded radio show. huge sections. 3-4 minute blocks. take that out of context you ignorant lying blowhard! great to listen to. this is a must read. you owe it to yourself.
Rating: Summary: Spank the Left! Review: Well, well, well...I wouldn't want to be Bill O'Reilly when "Team Franken" turns on the television in the coming year. Wait -- check that -- I wouldn't want to be Bill O'Reilly. Stinging, alarming, oftentimes brutally hysterical, Franken's latest work takes on the world to the RIGHT of center, and succeeds as well as all of his previous work. My favorite section is when he simply takes Bill O'Reilly to pieces using O'Reilly's own words to fill the gun.
On the left? It's your non-Alabama endorsed new Bible for 2003. On the right? C'mon...laugh at yourself.
We are.
Rating: Summary: cry baby conservatives Review: Well,. finally someone has stood up to the bullies. And they have responded in typical teary-eyed fashion.
Franken's tools of wit. logic and cold, hard facts are unfamiliar and frightening weapons as seen through dull, glassy, conservative eyes. Thanks, Al , for leading a long overdue charge against stupidity, greed and the high-pitched drone of those who are turning our country into a nation of sheep.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: Well-reasoned and thought out, much better reading than I expected! A real gem. Buy it, even if you disagree with it, you still need to read this book. I agree with much of the book, and I'm happy that it's less unreasoned attack than the dreck shovelled out by others on both sides: are you listening, Anne?
Rating: Summary: Funny, scary look at Right Review: Well-written with easy-to-read language that makes this book accessible to anyone who has an interest in what evil lurks in the hearts of the Right and the "liberal-biased" media... Very funny, and quite scary at times (lies, cover-ups, lies, inactions, lies, and lies)...I know politicians are famous for lying (I'm from Louisiana...it's a prerequisite and a tradition) but to totally deny Clinton any credit for even one of the hundreds of things that he did right and to then lay the blame of everything that has gone wrong since on Clinton...a little too much...the Right has really lost it's sense of purpose, fair-play, dignity, decency, etc. With the truth exposed about the mishandling of pre-9/11 information, suggested changes, proposed programs, and everything else that could have been used to prevent the tragedy...if everyone knew the facts, Dan Quayle would have more hope of getting elected in 2004. W.Bush/Quayle 2004-the REAL sequel to "Dumb & Dumber"
Rating: Summary: Brilliant! Hilarious! Review: Well-written, impeccably documented, sharp and above all very, very funny. Well-done, Al. A work that will stand alongside Swift as smart satirical literature for the ages.
Rating: Summary: baaad Review: what a bad book, filled with his own lies, petty thougts, and full of misled hatred. Don't waste your time. Find a SNL repeat on the Comedy channel, because that is what he is: a comedian.
Rating: Summary: The only guy as IGNORANT as Michael Moore Review: What a bunch of rot! I was hoping for something that was at least at little entertaining. This guy is so filled with hatred that he makes James Carville look decent. I didn't think anyone could stoop to Michael Moore's level but Al Franken suceeded.
Rating: Summary: Al Franken is a Big Fat Idiot..... Review: What a complete time-waster folks. Al Franken is quite adept at spitting venom and distorting facts, but it becomes painfully clear that the biggest liar in the book is Al himself. Like they say, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Not a total loss though...my Cockatoo will benefit by having her cage lined with this tripe, which is about all this book is good for. Plop...Ooops...sorry Al!
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT BOOK! Review: What a great and informative read! I haven't laughed this hard in such a long time. I've read some of other customers' reviews and what get so worked up over a book that was meant to entertain, at least for the most part. Enjoy it. Recommended for anyone who would like to live a little longer. Have a blast with the book!
