Rating: Summary: Mike Tells the Awful Truth...Again Review: Stupid White Men is a book that left me torn between laughter and tears. Although it's funnier than hell, it's also scarier than hell. It does nothing less than chronicle the selling of our national soul to the highest bidder. Mike manages to find the heart of injustice and corruption whether he is describing how Jeb Bush and the Supreme Court stole an election, how Enron bribed the corporate cops to look the other way, or how Bill Clinton became the best Republican president in history. Mike is dangerous precisely because he pulls no punches against either party; he makes it clear that both have been bought by the rich and powerful. He expects the Republicans to be shills for corporate interests; it's the betrayal of the Democrats that really pains him. This book is a populist cry for real reform that counters the influence of the monied and the powerful; it should be read by anyone serious about changing things for the better.
Rating: Summary: witty, forthright and normal insight Review: Michael Moore is one of the few people who comes from working class roots, and continues, even in his current wealth, to support and engage the normal working class. This is not communist trash anymore than supporting George W is patriotic. He is funny as hell, and anyone who has the intelligence, resources and gall to [anger] the right wing ideologs and the do-nothings in the government deserves your money.
Rating: Summary: Truth is in the pages Review: Michael Moore has gone to a new level with this book. When everyone else in the country is afraid to say anything negative about President Dubya, in fear that they might be swept up like an arab trying to board a plane, Moore exposes the Commander in Thief like no one else has dared to. It is unbelievable how people turn their heads to the exploits of this administration and I commend Moore for walking right into the fire. This book is a quick read as you cant put it down. Excellent Work, I recommend this book to anyone looking for fresh air.
Rating: Summary: Required Reading Review: Michael Moore makes it look easy -- but the truth is, most people in the US today are so scared of saying the wrong thing, that we don't talk about our country's obvious problems and hypocrisies. Bravo, Michael Moore, for once again having the courage, and once again putting your ... on the line. And most of all for telling the truth just when it's needed most. And o yeah, for making us laugh too.
Rating: Summary: Good news! Review: Some Texans are smart, and they're the Texans who'll read this book and get a real charge out of it. Moore is a funnier man than any of the past three presidents and HarpersCollins deserves two rousing cheers for giving a thumbs up, finally, to publication. We only have to put up with this "President" for three more years; Michael Moore makes that pill easier to swallow. Things are looking up!
Rating: Summary: A Classic Review: This is one of the great books of our time! Finally, somebody with the ....uh, guts, to tell it like it is. Pete Shattuck, Mill Valley, CA
Rating: Summary: A much needed change of perspective on America today Review: This is an amazing book. Considering that almost every discussion of America in the last six months has offered almost nothing but the utmost praise for the current administration's policies and actions, it is a welcome change to see someone actually criticize (and harshly, no less) the way things are going in the country that I am proud to call my home. This book is a refreshingly new way to look at the state of America today. I may not agree with everything (almost, but not quite everything) Michael Moore says in this book, but it is important for him to be able to say it, and more so for America to be able to read it and think about it. The fact that this book was almost never published makes it that much more important to read. I heartily recommend this book, if nothing more than for the fact that it epitomizes the freedom of speech, even of objectionable ideas, that this country holds so dear. Or at least it used to...
Rating: Summary: Intriguing thoughts permeate your body. Review: I dig this book.Yes. I HAVE a job. No, I am not a communist, but I do love this book. Michael Moore is an inspiration to those of us viewing our culture and seeing something that could be better. As a filmmaker, Michael has shown us things some would have wished weren't shared. Now as a writer, he continues his beautiful tradition of opening our eyes and minds with questions everyone should be asking. It's only down point is that it's a little out of date with the current cultural outlook. I would have liked to see a post 9/11 update before the book went to print. Still very relevant, emotionally stirring, as well as entertaining. This book should be filed under POLITICS, but my local bookstore chose to put him under HUMOR. Michael Moore is an inspiration to us all. dan ...
Rating: Summary: A smaller number of voters will prefer Limbaugh to Moore Review: Moore's over-the-top, left-of-center commentary will certainly not appeal to those who prefer the over-the-top, right-of-center commentary of Rush Limbaugh (and I would steer the latter to Al Franken's "Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot"). But for the majority of voters (who obviously are the intended audience), Moore's wicked satire will strike a sublime chord -- particularly in light of "President" Bush's handlers' relentless myth-making efforts, abetted by major media outlets, to portray W as a plain-spoken, nothing-but-the-truth-so-help-me-God telling, just-like-you-and-me great American, and not as what he actually is: the privileged son of an upper class family who has never earned anything based on his own merit. (Here's a man who's against affirmative action for poor or disenfranchised blacks who got into a prestigious Ivy League school, not because of his scholastic ability, but because of his family's financial influence with the school -- a process that in its effect is a form of affirmative action, but just for rich people. George W's a boot-straps line of guy, all right -- it's just that other people have always pulled him up by his boot straps.) If Moore's account for what occurred in Florida is only half true, it confirms what most voters already knew: the 2000 election was bought and paid for by big-moneyed interests who put one of their own in the White House. With accounts of the behind-the-scenes shenanigans like that in Moore's "Stupid White Men," at least most voting Americans (as well as those in Florida who didn't get to vote because they were unjustly purged from the voting rolls) can find a little humor in one of the most sordid chapters in the history of the republic.
Rating: Summary: Finally, ITS HERE! Review: After a long wait, Michael's book is finally on the market. Some of us didn't believe that it would happen; but our freedoms did not fail us and "Stupid White Men" is HERE!!! Michael provides a fresh look at the state of the nation that lifts the veil of ignorance over our eyes. Michael has the ability to show the world the truth in areas it wouldn't seem possible. I'm buying a book for myself and everyone I know! I wouldn't recommend anyone passing it down!!!
