Rating: Summary: Hilarious! Review: The title of this book is Stupid White Men (aka the illiterate right wing sheep who gave this book one star without even reading it). I think it's time that we restore integrity to the Amazon.com review system. I read this book and loved it even more than DOWNSIZE THIS so, if you're not a ... Rush Limbaugh-impersonator, I suggest you buy a copy as soon as possible.
Rating: Summary: Stupid White Men Review: An excellent, truthful review of our society (as usual) from one of the funniest and truthful men of our time.
Rating: Summary: Get this book before its banned!!! Review: Finally, an author of courage and conviction who tells it the way it really is. If your eyes are open, if you are a *true* patiotic American who loves this country, you will love this book too. If you are a victim of the propaganda of this illegally installed junta/ administration and the corporate media, then you have bought the lies lock stock and barrel and you will probably hate this book. Absolutely brilliant stuff, great humor, and a must read for anyone who *truly* cares for America.
Rating: Summary: Moore Rings The Bell Again! Review: Michael Moore rings the bell again with this collection of essays and thought-provoking insights. Moore has made it his life's work to call our attention to what the men behind the curtain are doing (and it usually IS 'stupid white men' back there). He is one of the many who love the people of this country and are saddened when the we veer off track. Is he angry? You bet! Is he sometimes vitrolic needlessly? Yes! Are his facts straight? Mostly. The best thing I can say about Michael Moore is that I'd be happy to put him up against any of right-wing motor-mouths on talk radio and be able to sleep knowing he'd do alright in that fight.
Rating: Summary: Another Success Review: Michael Moore has done it again. _Stupid White Men_ has lept to the heights of the bestseller lists...and not only are people reading and reacting to the truths he uncovers, but many continue to put him down! The hateful words and name calling of some has begun once again, and this only proves to be a testament to Moore's uncanny knack at throwing people a punch of truth right when they need it. Whether you agree with Moore or not, this book is an eye-opener, sure to cause heated debates, and, hopefully, spirited movement towards a more truthful and free country. Well done, Michael.
Rating: Summary: "Laughing Out Loud...Let's Get Busy!" Review: How may one find an outlet to reverse the current overload of media tempests currently spiraling from white collar crimes, a now perpetual war economy, and the vanishing domestic, service and farm based workers? Michael Moore's "Stupid White Men" is a good dose of social and political satire. Combined with Moore's "Gen-Xer" wit, style, and tone, "Stupid White Men" is nicely fused with brief, but telling facts that continue to be ignored and restricted from media networks. Michael aims on some known, and widely unknown social takes. For instance: On President Bush's Inauguration, did you see visual images of 20,000 protestors christening his presidential limo with eggs and delivering an airborne, true-to form-tossed salad? What about the nice Bush family's legacy [Prescott] of wealth dealing with the Nazi government during World War II? Of course not! Corporate media ownerships are concentrated by GE, FOX, or "Texas' Other Sweetheart," Clear Channel Communications. How is it that "we don't know nuthin'?" Because the very same "gangsters" also serve as board members for these corporate media estates, or serve as the Director of the FCC (Mr. Powell) Ahh, a "Gangster's Paradise." Diehard conservatives whom deplore "Political Correctness," should like "Stupid White Men," seeing that Mr. Moore yanks back the veil of "Race Relations" with honest observations derived form his personal experiences. I think he went a bit far, but funny, when he extends advice to whites on how to "save their honky [rears]." Perhaps Michael should have simply stated what his implications seemed to convey, that the American poor and middle class' freedoms are rooted in banishing the belief that another group's oppression is not oppressing them. It is! Some reviewers will attempt to downgrade the book, or accuse the content of being "Anti-American." Well, anytime an overreaching body attempts to restrict the publication and release of any written material, THAT action is belligerent and Anti-American. Thank you Harper Collins for standing courageously by the writer in the face of a brooding brother that's really not all that big. Enjoy the read, blow off some good natured steam, and take to heart that we are all in this together, meaning, our sorely in need of nurturing "Democracy."
Rating: Summary: Michael Moore, the Left's P.J. O'Rourke Review: Movies require a suspension of disbelief. If you are looking for an accurate portrayal of life as most of us know it, the multiplex is not the place for you. So too it seems to me with politicial satire. You have to suspend your own particular political prejudices and ideologies to enjoy verbal word play, the wry juxtapositions and the tongue in cheek mock heroic style. Jonathon Swift's "A Modest Proposal" got the English establishment's underwear in a twist because they took it to be an invitation to cannibalism. In fact it was a brilliant send up of the sanctimonious English economists who held that it was necessary for the poor Irish peasantry starve to death in order to maintain England's financial dominance. Reading some of the previous dim witted and humourless condemnatory reviews suggests that their spirit is alive and well in America today Two American authors whose books I always buy are P.J. O'Rourke and Michael Moore. Both of them are unfair, one sided and hilariously funny. Who can forget P.J's characterization of the politically correct lefties who invaded Nicaragua in support of Daniel Ortega as the "Sandalistas" Who cannot enjoy the labelling of Daimler Chrysler by Michael as a corporate welfare mother. Although both authors stand at opposite ends of the political spectrum, ideed one holds political ideas who mirror mine, they share in common an ability to shake up your preconceived ideas, to look at the political universe in unexpected way and to make you hoot with laughter in embarrassingly public places. Michael Moore's latest book "Stupid White Men" accomplishes just this. If you are neither a "Sandalista" or a Young American for Freeedom, that is, if you are not sniffy about your political views and delight in seeing the mickey taken out of self satisfied political opinions then this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: political satire at its best Review: Excitement, adveture, a progressive craves not these things. But somehow Mr. Moore makes saving the world a little more bearable, especially when the republicans and democrats are out to stop you. If you want the truth about insider politics and have a big laugh, read this book. If you want to be lied to and cry, read Bernie Goldberg's book Bias.
Rating: Summary: Surprise... this man knows his facts. Review: This book changed my thinking because Moore substantiates his material ...unlike many other writers who take what might as well be cheap shots because we have no idea what the real facts are. Moore uses the literature of his adversaries and their cohorts to provide the facts behind his accusations. This is a man who knows what WORK is! I'm impressed. You can't help listening to this solid stuff. And he's funny as well, in spite of the scary material he reveals about our country. Read it for yourself ...if you have an open mind. (You're never really listening unless you are willing for your mind to be changed.)
Rating: Summary: Mr. Moore: my choice for the ultimate american Review: I breezed through this book in an evening and enjoyed every word. Highly recomended for anyone able to mix politics and humor in a way that makes me think about this crazy world we live in and what we can do. Thank you and please continue your work Mike, The world is listening!
