Summary: look past his ranting at the beginning and end...
Review: the first 2 chapters of Bush bashing got r-r-r-really redundant, (and as we all know now, shortsighted), but the remaining chapters were pretty entertaining. i even laughed out loud a few times.

finding "big holes" in several of his arguments, i realized i was more conservative than i thought. (or maybe he's farther to the left than he thinks he is?) his comments about education were "right on the mark" though, and he didn't mind trashing clinton and gore.

if you catagorize yourself as liberal, you'll enjoy his writing. if you're a conservative republican, you'll think he's a raving lunatic. if you consider yourself an independant moderate, you may find yourself drawn left or right by your reactions to this book (as i did). one cannot read the book without reacting to it, so i recommend it just for that reason. it really should rate 3.5 stars, but amazon didn't see fit to give us that option....

Summary: Shrill and unitelligent
Review: Not much to add to that (and I'm not an ideological enemy, btw.) A truly low-class book, targeted, I suppose, at people with no reasoning capacity. Well, Moore proudly admits on his website that he has never graduated from college; that certainly shows and, though not an excuse, may perhaps serve as an explanation.

There's no no facts-based logical argumentation to be found in this diatribe, only an endless shrill fulmination (very typical, I'm sorry to say, of nearly everything from the left you find online and in print; I hear, Marx once said that he's not a Marxist: I suspect it may have been because of self-professed "ideological partners" like Moore: god save us from our friends, I guess.)

Not that the issues Moore belabours are nonsense -- far from it; it's not *what* he's dealing with, it's *how* he does it that's problematic here. And so, the reader's trudging through all this squawking and cackling eventuates in a total waste of time -- this book does more harm to legitimate issues than it helps. Oh, I forgot: Moore's supposed to be "humorous", well that's the kind of humour that, instead of making you laugh, makes you tired and embarrassed vicariously, for the writer.

Btw, unlike Moore's SWM, Franken's recent book turned out to be quite alright (I was surprised by that -- I don't ususally expect much from professional comedians); it's ten orders of magnitude better than Moore carping. I suppose Franken did go to college and learned how to discourse intelligently. And he, too, tries to be funny, but in his case, I did chuckle now and then.

OK to make the long story short: if you *are* gonna read something, read Franken and ignore Moore. (At least, if you're a college graduate.) Moore's an annoying idiot.

Summary: Says it like it is- with humor included!
Review: Many people will hate this book because it brings up issues that people are not comfortable with, like why the education system sucks, how Bush became "president," how many businesses are still racist and black people do not have as many opportunities as white people, and other things that might tick you off. But if you read this book with an open mind and without hating because it is "too liberal," than you may actually enjoy this book because it has political satire at its best. It is a really amusing book. Don't take every little comment he says too seriously, because a lot of it is tongue-in-cheek. I found some of the ideas in the book enlightening. Maybe you will, too.

Summary: Intertaining, but hardly constructive
Review: I agree with almost everything Michael Moore says. I believe the majority of his weak research and quotes. But, I don't think he makes any positive contribution to making this a better country. He is purely an entertainer. He likes to get people pissed off, but doesn't do anything constructive with his beliefs and insights. Some might argue that his 'gift' or even his goal is to make others aware of inequalities in our political and social systems, and thus empower or enlighten potential liberals this way. This may be true, but I think it is outweighed by the ammo he provides for conservatives and opponents of the liberal or left interpretation of this country's (USA) current state of affairs.

Read this, but don't expect anything more than pure entertainment with a left and half informed twist.

Summary: ***** Way to go Michael *****
Review: As a Lebanese citizen who is not much into politics, I saw the book with a friend so i took a peak on some of the contents inside. Couldn't wait for the next morning to buy me a copy. As a result, I finished reading it in three working days (It usually takes me at least 2-3 weeks to finish a book). Once you start with reading it, you can't stop. Stupid White Men is one of the most entertaining and full-of-facts book. It should be nominated "book of the decade". This book is a must-have in every library. If you haven't bought it, go ahead, do it immediatly

Summary: To be a citizen
Review: To be a citizen is the highest honor to hold in
a democracy. You might agree or you might disagree
with Moore, but I don't think you can take away from
him that he actually cares about democracy and society.
In our times of subversive materialism Moores
idealism and pamphleteer kicking style is obviously necessary.
We all need to get involved in this thing called
society.
With this said I personally disagree with Moore
on a lot of issues. The part about Yugoslavia was
simplistic, to say it mildly, his failure to see
any good in Americas position in the world is
downright dangerous.
On the bright side I kind of enjoyed his comparison of
high schools with totalitarian dictatorships etc.
So, despite all the singlemindedness in this book, democracy
needs people like Michael Moore. He is a citizen.
Free speech and the right to vote - not to bad after all.

Summary: Sorry for my late showing
Review: I read this book some time ago but had never gotten around to writing a review. I'm not really sure why either, this book is amazing. It's better than Moore's newest offering 'Dude, Where's My Country?'; which I just finished and inspired me to write this review. Not that 'Dude' is bad, it's just not on the same level as 'Stupid White Men'.

The contents of this book hold up very well to the world we live in today, even though it was written pre-9/11. What could I say about this book that hasn't been said before, I suppose I could do what the right-wingers do and make up baseless lies and distortions knowing dittoheads will never check the facts. So let's post some facts that no one can dispute.

'Stupid White Men' was #1 on NY Times' bestseller list for 8 weeks to start it's run.

On (Sunday, June 23, 2002) 'Stupid White Men' had been on the NY Times bestseller list for 16 weeks - and, remarkably, it did so by returning, once again, to #1.

The book is now in it's 52nd printing and has been declared the best-selling nonfiction hardcover for 2002.

'Stupid White Men' is still on the NY Times' bestseller list at #31.

It was also voted book of the year in England for 2002, it was the first time a book won that award that was not written by a citizen of England.

Yet all these right-winger's like to brag about how well their books sell. Face it neo-cons, you're living in a liberal nation.

Summary: Not a work of genius, but at least it was funny
Review: Could any body please tell me the names of some real rip snorter neo-conservative comic authors? Rummie told any jokes lately? Condie get a look in at a comedy festival? Look, I lead a sad and confined existence clinging on to the cliff face of capitalist inequality. Laughing quietly at my self-appointed superiors is the only thing that keeps people like me from fomenting revolution. So, critics, give Michael Moore a break, he may be more essential to the stability of your cosy little set-up than you could possibly understand.

Summary: Funny, engaging..., Look out "Mr. President"
Review: If you're not disgusted by the factual accounts of the Florida debacle here, you're due to be listed in "Stupid White Men II."

This is a terrific book.

Take note right-wingers...the pendulum is swining back toward the common-sense left.

Summary: A Steaming Pile of Michael Moore
Review: If you want to learn about Michael Moore - his anger, his tilted view of things, his ability to twist even the simplest hard facts into the most elaborate of distortions - then you should read this book. If you want to know about America as it is, or as it ever was, you can safely pass on this one.
