Rating: Summary: Book Running Running Gone! Best Book ever Review: This is the best book ever. It is called Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli. He is the best author ever because he writes like he is a kid.The main character is Jeffey Magee also none as Maniac Magee.Maniac's parents died in a trolly crash and he is sent to live with his Aunt Dot and Uncle Dan who hate each other. They have two of every thing, they even split Maniac in half. The town is called Two Mills Pennsylvania. It is divided in half sparated in half between blacks and whites,he has the worst of luck with parents. He loves to run.The only problem is he doesn't have a home to run back to.So he goes from home to zoos to back yards and every thing you wouldn't imagine living in , but he never stays in one for long.He stays alive though. There are a lot of things that happen in this book.Like when Maniac begs Amanda Beale to give him a book.Or when he jumps the fence of the Finsterwalds to save a kid.He ran and stoped by the Piskwel's house to have dinner. When he cought a football with one hand.Or when he hit home run on John McNab's frogball,or when he got chased by the cobras and crossed to the East End. He took a bite of the meanest kids candy bar, Mars Bar Johnson. Maniac meets back up with Amanda Beale. Then Amanda asks if he wants to stay with her. Then he unties Cobble's Knot.Maniac runs away from the Beales house, but where will he go next. I loved this book it was the best book i ever read. The only part I disliked was when Grayon died.I didn't like that because Maniac found a grown up who loved him and cared for him since the Beales. That was the saddest chapter in the whole book.I recommend this book to kids of the ages of 8-12 because they would understand and enjoy this book. I hope you recommend reading this book. The point of this story is that there are all different types of families and you will always have a family even if only one person cares about you,but will Maniac ever find a real home?
Rating: Summary: Legends are Made Not Born Review: Suspence, mystery, happiness, sadness and humor. These are all feelings you'll come across in the book Maniac Magee. Jerry Spinelli really had a lot of description in this book. He also wrote Loser and many others. Maniac is a boy whose mother and father died in a trolley car when he was two. He goes to live with his aunt and uncle. I'm not going to tell you what happened there. Maniac runs to escape from his aunt and uncle. He ends up in Two Mills, Pensylvania where this book takes place. The problem in this book is Maniac has no where to stay and he has to find a place to go. First Maniac runs away from his aunt and uncle and goes to Two Mills, PA where he meets Amanda Beal. He asks her for a book. Maniac runs all over town reading the book. Then he hits a frogball of John McNab. John chases him all the way to Hector Street where he meets a black boy named Mars Bar. Mars Bar asks Maniac if he wants a bite of his candy bar. Does he eat it? Amanda comes to ask Maniac if he wants to come to her home. Maniac stays there for a few weeks. Then one day at a block party a man told Maniac to go back on the white side. Does he go? Cobbles knot, what is it? What does Maniac do with it? Find out. Maniac meets a man named Grayson. Maniac stays with him for a while. After Christmas Grayson dies. Maniac ends up at John McNab's house. Why does he go to a place where nobody likes him? Maniac helps Piper and Russell Mcnab stay in school by doing amazing things. Why does Maniac leave? Maniac and Mars Bar run next to each other but they don't talk. One day Russell and Piper were playing a game. Russel is on a bridge when a trolley comes. Does Maniac save him? Maniac ends up at the zoo. But where does he go after that? I really like this book. It is a lot of fun to find out what happens. I liked the part when Maniac plays with Hester and Lester Beal. I don't like the part when Grayson dies. I would recemend this book to anyone that likes adventures. The ages are from 9-30. If you want to find the answers to the questions just read the book!
Rating: Summary: The Wonderful Book Review: Maniac Magee is the main character in this book. People call him Maniac because he does crazy and amazing things. His mom and dad died when he was little. They died on a trestle and the driver was drunk. The trestle was going sixtey miles an hourand it fell in the water. Then he moved in with his Aunt Dot and Uncle Dan. They have two of everything because they hate each other. They don't get divorced because they were strict Catholics. The auther of this book is Jerry Spinelli. He is a great author because I like how he writes as a kid wrote it too. The problem of the story is Maniac is looking for a place to stay. He ran away from Aunt Dot and Uncle Dan because he was tired of having two of everything. The street that he ended up on was called Two Mills, Pennsylvania. There was a West End for the white people and an East End for the black people. One day on the West End Maniac went to watch the rec baseball game. He saw a kid that was pitching the ball and striking them out. Maniac looked at them and thought and said that he needed to help them. He went up to the plate and hit the ball. Everyone was looking at him, but he didn't care. He also hit a "frogball" and no one has ever done that before. The baseball team finally won. A second event is when Maniac decided that he wanted to see the the East End. He went over and saw a girl carring a suitcase full of books. Maniac asked her why she carried all the books. She said her brother and sister color on everything. A third event is Maniac mat a kid named Mars Bar who let him have a bite of his candy bar, but then he became mean because he stole the book that Amanda gave Maniac. He got the book back , but Amanda's favorite page got ripped out. A fourth event was when Amanda invited Maniac over to her house. Maniac met her dad, mom, brother and sister. A fifth event in the book is when Mr. Beale took Maniac home and said where is your house. Maniac said he doesn't have a home he is an orphan. Mr. Beale took him back to his house and then Maniac finally has a home. A sixth event is when the mean massage on the Beal's house that told him to go home fishbelly where you belong. The seventh event is when a man named Grayson found Maniac on the ground at the zoo in rags so he took him to his baseball equipment room where he works. An eight event is when they had Thanksgiving and Christmas together and 5 days after Christmas Grayson died. A ninth event was when Maniac ran away to Valley Forge and met the McNab kids, Piper and Russell. They said that they were going to Mexico. Maniac told them if they go back to Two Mills with him, he will show them a short cut to Mexico and give them a large free pizza. The last event was when Maniac was invited to a birthday party. Piper was having the birthday party. After the party, Amanda Beale was telling Maniac to come home, and somebody was finally telling him to come home. I liked this book because you got to feel how it would be if you didn't have a home. I recommend this to eight, nine, and ten year olds. The person I would recommend this to is my little brother, Stephen, who is turning eight in April. This was a wonderful book.
Rating: Summary: The Boy of Many Feats Review: Running short of books to read? You're looking for a good to read? Well look no further because Maniac Magee, by Jerry Spinelli, is waiting for you. Jeffrey Lionel Magee, AKA Maniac, is just a twelve year old, scruffy, orphaned boy but as soon as he sets foot in Two Mills, Pennsylvania a legend is born. He's as fast as sound: bunting a frog for a homerun, scoring 49 touchdowns in one day, and beating a kid running backwards and the kid was running forwards. Unfortunutly, Two Mills is split into two ends, with Whites on the West End and Blacks on the East End but does Maniac know about the difference between skin colors? No he doesn't. There are many events that take place in the story to move along. First, Maniac's (then Jeffrey) parents die in a famous trolley crash. Then, he goes to live with his Aunt Dot and Uncle Dan who hate each other. After that he runs away at a chorus recital and isn't seen for a year. Next, he wanders into Two Mills and makes 4 appearances that day, also getting the nickname Maniac. Next, he starts to live at the Beales. Then he leaves the Beales and runs away to the zoo. Then, he is found by an old man,Grayson, who lets Maniac stay with him. After that, Grayson died. Maniac runs away to Valley Forge waiting for death. Then he meets Russell and Piper McNab, who invite him to their run-down house which will later be turned into a pillbox. After that, he provoaks Russell and Piper to stay in school by doing "heoric" feats. After that, Maniac doesn't stay in one set place and starts goes all over. Finally, Maniac stays with the Beales forever. Those are some important events in Maniac Magee. Many people have different opinions about Maniac Magee. I believe this is an excellant book, everything clearly stated. I would recommend it to kids who are in thier seventh month of fourth grade through their fifth grade. I liked everything about this book except one thing which is the way the McNabs' house is described with roaches and things like that. This book truly deserves its five stars.
Rating: Summary: This Was a Great Book Review: This is a great book. Maniac Magee is a great book because the author Jerry Spinelli is really good at writing books. Some of the main characters are Jeffery Magee but the kids call him Maniac Magee. Other main characters are Amanda Beale, Grayson, Mars Bar, and John McNab. Maniac's Aunt Dot and Uncle Dan didn't like each other so Maniac didn't stay. Some of the settings are the YMCA, the Beale's house, the equipment room, the buffalo pen, and Two Mills Pennsylvania. The problem in this novel is that Maniac always had bad luck with people he lived with. Well first his parents died, then his Aunt Dot and Uncle Dan hated each other, then the Beale's were not the best family, and the last thing was that something else happened to his friend. Some events that happened in Maniac's life were first his parents died in the famous P&W high speed trolley. Then Maniac ran into a girl named Amanda Beale and asked her if he could borrow a book. She gave him one. Also no one ever really goes into Finsterwald's backyard and if they did you would hear them screaming. Then Mrs. Pickwell would blow her whistle so that her kids would come to dinner. Mrs. Pickwell has 10 kids. One day Maniac was at a baseball field, and the pitcher threw frogballs and fastballs that no one could hit. So Maniac said that he wanted to try and hit the ball. So he went up. Did he hit the ball? Then a kid named Mars Bar asked Maniac to take a bit of his chocolate and he did. That is unusual because Mars Bar is black and Maniac is white. Now Maniac is staying with Amanda's family.Maniac untied Cobble's knot which is the hardest knot to untieso now everyone asks him to utie their on ther shoes. Then the last thing was that Maniac lived a man named Grayson, and then something happens. What I didn't like in this book was that John McNab's house is dirty. But what I did like was the whole story. I recommend this book to people in Fifth grade and also I think people that like sad and happy books. Now where do you think Maniac is living at the end of this book? This was a great book.
Rating: Summary: The Adventures of Maniac Magee Review: Do you like books that have ledgends? I think this is one of the best books ever, it is called Maniac Magee. The author, Jerry Spinelli, makes it seem like he is a kid, while telling the story. This book takes place in a town in Pennsylvania, a town called Two Mills. The main character is Maniac. His parents died in a trolly crash. He went to live with his aunt and uncle. He ran away because they never got along. At the beginning of the book, he went into the East End. There are two halves of the town, East and West. The West end has white people and the East end has black people. The boundary of the two sides is Hector Street. Maniac met a girl called Amanda Beale. He also borrowed a book from her. Maniac took it and read it on Mr. Finsterwald's front door steps. Everyone is affraid of Mr. Finsterwald because they think he's really mean. He met a bully called Mars Bar. Mars Bar ripped up a page in Amanda's book. Maniac Magee went to live with Amanda and her family for a while. Eventually, he had to leave because no one from the East End wanted him there. He met a man called Earl Grayson. He let Maniac live in the baseball room at the park. Then Grayson died a few days after Christmas. Maniac ran away again and met two little boys called Russell and Piper. They were the two little brothers of a kid called John McNab, who Maniac beat in the baseball game. He went to their house for a few weeks. One day, Russell got stuck on the tressel tracks, and Mars Bar saved him. To find out what happens at the end of the book, you will have to read it for yourself. I would recommend this book to people that like interesting, real life, adventure books. I would recommend it to ages 9 or older. I like this book because it is interesting. I don't like this book because Grayson dies. You should get this book to decide for yourself.
Rating: Summary: My Favorite Book Review: I think Maniac Magee is my favorite book I have ever read, because it has a lot of friendship in this book, and I like to read books like that. The author of this book is Jerry Spinelli. The setting in this book is Two Mills, Pensylvania. The problem in this novel is Maniac does not have real parents. The main character in this book is Maniac whose real name is Jeffrey. His nickname is Maniac because he can run a lot. Some events that happened in this book are Maniac's parents died. He went to live with his Aunt and Uncle. He ran all the way from Holidaysburg to Two Mills. Then he met Amanda Beale. Amanda brought her library to school. Amanda gave Maniac a book. Maniac met Mars Bars. Maniac can also play football with one hand. Maniac goes to live with the Beales. They eat pizza and he is alergic to it. I like this book a lot because it has a lot of friendship in it. I dislike this book because when Maniac went to the McNabs' house it was disgusting with all the cockroaches and all the dust. I would recomend this book for ages 8-12. Also if you are the kind of person who likes to be all over the place in books you will love Maniac Magee.
Rating: Summary: Nothin' Scares Magee Review: Maniac Magee is another awesome novel by Jerry Spinelli. Jeffrey(a.k.a Maniac) Magee has very bad luck when it comes to families. He can never seem to stay with a family for very long. His parents die in a train crash. After that he runs away from his aunt and uncle. He ends up in Two Mills, Pennsylvania. Two Mills is split into two sections. East End, which is all black people, and West End is all white people. While in Two Mills, Maniac meets a girl named Amanda Beale. She lends Maniac a book to read. Maniac then goes to a man named Finsterwald's backyard. There was a kid there. Maniac carries the "petrified" boy off the lawn. The boy ran away. Maniac is then served dinner by the Pickwell family. They didn't even notice him. After that Maniac plays baseball with John McNab and is the first person ever to hit a homerun off of him. He then ventures into the East End(Remember, Maniac is white). He meets Mars Bar Thompson. Mars Bar rips the book that Amanda gave to Maniac. Amanda comes to the rescue and invites Maniac to stay at her house. To know what happens next, you have to read this book. I really like the way Jerry Spinelli writes. I'd really recommend this book and other books by Jerry Spinelli to people of all ages who love adventures.
