Rating: Summary: =) Review: I absolutley love this entire series, I first read it when I ten or so and I still love it many years later. Definatley a page turner! The real reason I'm writing this though, is to address the pre-martial sex issue that seems to be bothering a couple people. First, pre-martial sex happens - alot, get over it. Ms Pierce is of the opinion it's okay, which is great, she's not shoving it down anyone's throat ... ... there is nothing in this book that should upset anyone, anywhere with it's sexual content. (or lack there of) Yes, pre-martial sex does take place in the book. However it is in no way graphic at all, and it's not inappropriate to her age group. So enless the child has been locked up all their lives and think that kids are hatched from inside your belly button they will be perfectly fine reading this book and the rest in the series. Just wanted to clear that up.
Rating: Summary: Inappropriate and Disappointing Review: I picked up the first of the Alanna series when I was browsing in a bookstore and was enchanted by the covers and the idea of a fun fantasy heroine. Though an adult, I love children and young adult fantasy and was excited to try a series that looked so promising. I loved The First Adventure and immediately returned to the bookstore to pick up In the Hand of the Goddess and book three. Unfortunately, In the Hand of the Goddess did not live up to the standard set by The First Adventure. Though Alanna remains intelligent and brave and the overall plot starts well, the subplot of the friendship between Alanna and her best friend, the prince, degenerates into a teenage love affair where they don't even pretend to be in love (not that a pretense of love would make it acceptable). I was shocked and distraught when this occurred. Not even my interest in the characters and the overall plot could make me continue and within the evening I had returned the unread book three. I am saddened that Pierce felt the need to ruin such a vibrant character and series with a love affair, particularly when both the participants of the affair and the intended audience of her books are children and young adults. I started reading In the Hand of the Goddess with high expectations based on book one and found it to be the most disappointing book that I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: One of the More enticing books I've read Review: I love this book I finished it in two days. I thought this book was great like the rest of the tortallian sets I got into these books by getting the Protector of the small squire. Anywho I thought this book was great especially the part where she meets the Great Mother Godess since it is rare for any one to met a god or godess. If you want a fantasy series that will keep you busy for a while these are it.
Rating: Summary: In the Hand of the Goddess Review: I love fantasy books and out of ALL the fantasy books I've read the Tamora Pierce books are the best and The Song of the Lioness Quartet is my favorite our of all of her books. The series is about Alanna who doesn't agree with her society and wants to become a knight so she cuts her hair and switches places with her twin Thom. In the Hand of the Goddess is the best of this series I think because Alanna has everything you could want in a heroine. She has loyalty and strength and a strong will to suceed, she's also not afraid to take a giant risk which may land her a place of ridicule for the rest of her life. But she's not in either the super-human or delecate flower catagorys, like most heroines of fantasy books are. She's scared of things and has feelings and confusion and thoughts flowing through her head about different things. She's a human and also seems immortal at the same time. The plot twists are surprising and the story flows with just the perfect balance of adventure, mystery, and romance.
Rating: Summary: A book I loved Review: ...The story unfolds well, with dramatic twists and turns and a wide range of oppositions. Alanna is a likeable heroine with realistic flaws, and the story fascinated me. I would recommend this book to any girl who enjoys fantasy/sword and sorcery novels, as it's a really good read...an enjoyable story.
Rating: Summary: +++++MY FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME+++++ Review: I have read all of the Tamora Pierce's book ,and this is my favorite book so far! This book is about a girl want to became a knight so switch place with her twin to became a knight. Her brother want to be a wizard and she want to be a knight.Jon alway protect her and George teach how to fight. There was a love triangle beteen George,Alanna & Jon.
Rating: Summary: Song of the Lioness Review: I enjoyed the first book, and I think this one is even better. In this book, Alanna is nearing the end of her training to be a knight. Duke Roger becomes even more of a danger. Alanna also becomes increasingly aware that, although she soon won't have to lie to people anymore about the fact that she is a girl, she doesn't know anything about being a girl. Not only is George Cooper, the King of Thieves, interested in her, but Prince Jonathan, her friend, is as well. This was a quick read for me; I finished it in a day. It was a wonderful book and I'm just glad that I already have the next two in my possession. Alanna is a fascinating character, and I can't wait to find out how her story ends.
Rating: Summary: My favorite book Of All Time Review: In this book, the author, Tamora Pierce, creates an intriguing plot, that grabs your attention and doesn't let go. The main character is quirky, and independent; yet is also perfectly believable and easy to relate to as she is often as confused and emotionally unstable as, well, everybody human. This book is not all action either, it has it's share of romance as well. The end will leave you hoping for a third book, which there is, although not half as satisfying as the 2nd. But don't let that slow you down, for upon finishing the 3rd, there is a 4th!!! Which, to my opinion is nearly as great as the 2nd. After that there is another series (The Immortals), in which Alanna appears occasionally. And then the latest series (Protector of the Small), which also takes place in Tortall, and includes little snippets of Alanna. Oh, and make sure to read all of the books in the correct order for optimum satisfaction!
Rating: Summary: Yet Another Winner Review: After proving herself as a boy and girl, Alanna has been chosen to be the squire of her best friend and prince, Jonathan. The second book in The Song of the Lioness series was one of my favorites. It's deals with the hardships romance and the on going romance between Alanna and Jonathan. Also, the dislike of Jonathan Cousin Roger intensifies and provides successful suspense. God, this was a good book.
Rating: Summary: The best book in the world Review: This book is the best of all of Ms. Pierce's books. About Alanna, a girl who is disguised as a boy to become a knight. She is a Squire, only a few years away from her goal. Set in Tortall, a magic land of magic and chivalry, you will be hooked as you read of Alanna, her confusion about her romance with Prince Jonathan, and perhaps one with the King of Thieves. You will go to war with her, slay bandits, and meet goddesses as well HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
