Summary: Reasonably engaging, but ultimately pretty lame
Review: I bought this book at the airport to read during a 4.5 hour flight. On the positive side, the book accomplished it's primary mission of keeping me occupied during the flight (I don't care for flying all that much). The characters are likeable and the story is mostly interesting. I'm not sure if I care for the author's writing style ("Joe Smith was the Killer! It was Joe! Joe!"). The red herring that leads you to falsely deduce the identify of the killer isn't clever as intended. Rather, it left me annoyed. I don't mind that I was wrong in my prediction, but there was not any substance whatsoever to support that conclusion. The book kind of felt as if it was written with a movie adaptation in mind (haven't seen the film, so I can't comment on the quality of that). I'm not a voracious reader of this genre, but I've read a few Thomas Harris titles (Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon). I felt that those two were much better than this one over all.

Summary: Alex Cross to the rescue.
Review: This installment of the Alex Cross series deals with two diabolical men who feed off of each other.

Alex Cross gets involved with them via his niece's abduction.

I listened to this story on tape while driving to/from work. I found myself not wanting to get out of the car until the tape was finished.

While there were some obvious imperfections that a trained detective would pick-up on immediately, Patterson does a great job of placing you at the scene of the crimes.

Once you pick up one of the Alex Cross novels, you will become a groupie.

Summary: 5 stars for one scary book
Review: This was the first JP book I had read. I read about 5 to 8 books a month and I took two weeks to finish this one. I had to give myself breaks and had to fall asleep with the light on. Silly I thought too, yet true. This will always be my favorite, because it was my first, Patterson book. BUT! I would not dare read it again. Too scary. A thrill a minuet. RECOMMEND to anyone who likes Psychological thrillers, this is a fine one for the collection. *****'s

Summary: Great Serial Killer Novel
Review: You like mysteries, especially ones with serial killers? THis is one of the best, by one of the best. In this second Alex Cross novel, Cross is on the manhunt for Casanova and The Gentleman Caller. He has a personal stake in this one - his niece. She has been captured by Casanova, who has been capturing, holding, and eventually killing young, beautiful women. One woman, Kate McTiernan, escapes, and with her help, Alex is closing in on the mystery.

Summary: Horrifying
Review: "Kiss the Girls" is written by the master of modern suspense novels, James Patterson. Alex Cross is a wonderful protagonist, a man of honor, and a down-right likable guy. In this book, he faces one of the most horrifying villains ever: a man who calls himself the "Casanova". The Casanova is a human monster, preying upon brilliant, beautiful, haughty college girls. After he kidnapps a girl, he brings her to his terrifying cave, filled with other women held captive. The graphic violence that occurs in this cave, especially the snake scene (which I strongly precaution fragile readers not to read), makes this novel pretty close to being categorized as horror, in my opinion. The Casanova is "twinning" with his sinister partner in crime, the "Gentleman Caller", a man who uses insane brutality on his women victims. The way James Patterson tells the story is like a fine work of art, the words blending so magnificently together to form a masterpiece among modern psychological thrilles. But, be precautioned, this book is quite disturbing, especially to parents who fear for their children. This book also teaches a good lesson about the power of karate.

Summary: Perfact Crimes For Perfact Women
Review: When you have two serial killers on the loose, life can be pretty scary, especially when you were a victim who escaped like Kate McTiernan or a worried Uncle like Alex Cross trying to solve the case of the perfect crimes, committed by two surprisingly calm but insane killers, Casanova and The Gentleman Caller. They say they have a conscious and that they actually love there girls (or better known as prey), but do they really have a conscious if they kill girls that they do supposedly love. The serial Killers pick the most extraordinary women that they can find. On the college campus that they search on there are many women that fit there physical discription, but do they all make the cut with the brains? This book will send shivers down your spine and keep you constantly on your toes think someone is watching you. You wont be able to put this book down. I would recomend this book to any one who likes mysteries, Horrors, and or romance.

Summary: Great book despite the rawness
Review: Perhaps I'm just insensitive to these matters because I am brutish male and a teenager to boot, but I did not find that the depictions of rape and other atrocities to women in this book were presented in a gratuitous or offensive manner. Sure, some truly wretched things happen to hapless damsals in this book, but with a James Patterson serial killer thriller, no one is expecting THE SECRET GARDEN.

Onto other matters. In terms of plot, this is fairly standard "Family-man-cop-hunts-serial-rapist/killer" fare, and although it offers nothing new in terms of formula to the genre, it is told with with lean, sinewy power, effective, short chapters, and intriguing exposition. The jumping from first-person from Alex Cross (admirable but far too boy-scout-ish good guy) to the other characters is effective and not confusing.
So while KISS THE GIRLS doesn't transcend its genre, it represents everything that can be great about it. Far better than recent Cross novels like ROSES ARE RED

Summary: Too creepy for me!
Review: I usually enjoy James Patterson's books and don't mind some of the graphic descriptions, but this story was WAY too creepy for me. The snake scene - creeped me out for weeks!

I was really disappointed in the ending. For a twist to work at the end, you need to bring back a character you've seen more than twice in the entire book! While I never would have guessed the ending, it left me disappointed because it could just have well been a stranger off the street who was the villain.

Summary: a favorite patterson
Review: what i liked best about this book was how he got into the "heads'" of the characters. as they go through their experiences I liked the way he presented their thoughts - hope, despair, dissapointment, revenge...all those feelings are brought out very well (something they totally skipped in the movie which made it a bit flat). anyway, this is a great book and i recommend it to thriller/detective lovers.
