Rating: Summary: An extraordinary truth about what is important in life. Review: I was so deeply moved to tears about every three pages. I read this book within a two-week period. Parts of it were too much to bear in one sitting. The truths were so hard but oh so necessary. I found such comfort and renewed strength to get through my recent heartbreak. I am a very strong, highly-educated and intelligent woman. I turned to this book for help and that is exactly what I got. Love, comfort, understanding, and a shot of hope and acceptance. There will be light soon for me. It is a process that requires work and trust in myself and in God. I am personally not as religious as I was raised but I do believe in God and I have great faith in human kindness. I am keeping this book close to my bedside in case I feel I have an unexpected need in the middle of the night when I am the most afraid and my fears surround me. Thank you for this book of wisdom and love. We are all human beings. We are so needy of what is so important in this life-love and kindness. I admit that meantime experiences are awful and so painful. But to know that they are a necessary step to get somewhere so beautiful and peaceful, it must be worth it. Understanding what is happening in one's progression through life's journey will help make it an easier road to travel, with its richness and losses. My life is full of great passion for living and loving. Now, I am working on moving to the third level of the house and eventually to the Attic. In the Meantime gave me the tools and now the rest is up to me. But I now know that I am not alone. I am not alone with the kind of feelings I have had and I am worthy of true love. We all are! A must read for anyone who is hurting in their life and can't seem to get a handle on it. If you don't want to continue with the same patterns of behavior, read this book now. And, then, read it again. Thank You Iyanla for having the insight and determination to really help others. May you always be happy and stay high above the house-in the Attic. I hope to join you there soon!
Rating: Summary: OUTSTANDING! Review: I am a middle-aged, gay, male reader who found this book a few months after the painful end of a six-year, unrequited love affair. Throughout the book I kept encountering so many keen insights that I finally resorted to reading with a yellow highligher pen to mark the passages. Again and again Vanzant precisely describes things that ring so true for me and my struggles with relationships and self esteem, self love. I have read many self-help books over the years, but have never encountered one with so much understanding, compassion and truth about the human heart. This is one of the most helpful books I have ever read. I am tremendously impressed with the wisdom Vanzant has gleaned from her life's experiences. And she's funny, too. It's a great read.

Rating: Summary: One of the best guides to wholesome, fulfiling relationships Review: I read this book at the recommendation of one of my best girlfriends. I bought it the next day, and haven't been able to put it down since. I have never been so moved and inspired by one piece of literature. I think this should be one book that every woman, but especially a single woman, should read. Actually, every person should read it. Regardless of race, gender or cultural background. The one thing that I liked best was the stories she used as examples. Nothing helps to promote healing than to know that you are not the only one who has been through it. The stories used people of different ages, backgrounds, etc. The best part was you couldn't tell whether or not the people were black or white, which made it appeal to everyone, regardless of race. When I first starte reading the book, I realized that I was somewhere between the first and second floor. After I finished, I was well on my way to the third floor. I can't wait until I get to the attic, which is my ultimate goal! The analogy of love being a house is great! It really helps to chart and understand your development, helping you to step up the pace to your healing. This book is not about how to find a man/partner. It is about finding yourself and as a result you will find the unconditional love that you desire. The whold premise of the book is to be whole within yourself and then and only then will you be truly happy. I think every bookclub, person, singles' ministry, church and organization should read this book. It will change your life, as it did mine!
Rating: Summary: In the Meantime Review: This book started out good and really made sense and was positive but eventually, it got a little "out there". For instance, when she was giving an example of a couple who had a long-term relationship and one of them wasn't sure about how he felt and wanted to see other people, her advise was that the person who knew for sure about how he/she felt about the relationship should trust the other enough to let him/her do whatever they need to do to find out, as long as they stay together and supposedly, that's building love and trust. To me, it's saying, "I'm a doormat...walk on me." or can we say the word CODEPENDENT tendencies? BEEN THERE, DONE THAT!! And thank goodness, I'm far into my codependent recovery so as to recognize this; therefore, not buying into it. In the end, I just took what I could use from the book and left the rest but there was a lot left.
Rating: Summary: Looking Inside you. Review: Ms. Vanzant allows you to keep your mind open to new avenues on how to relief the emptiness we feel do to hurt and pain from a bad relationship. Each story and experience she gave was an insight as to how we experience a fall on our ego and self respect, and how to learn how to live for you and not everyone else in life. It is a great self healing book. Through her own personal experiences she gives reasons to look within your own life as to what we have lost within ourselves. She helps you view what is out there for us to move on and get to the top in being happy with ourselves and not living through having someone else be your happiness, but finding it within you.

Rating: Summary: Find yourself reading this book..... Review: I cannot even begin to explain how wonderful and insightful this book is. I recommend it to everyone I know--even if you're not having a life or love "crisis" there are insights and wisdoms in this book that can help everyone. I even took some of Vanzant's profound passages and wrote them on pretty paper and hung in next to the mirror in my bathroom--that way her knowledge of the soul can keep getting reinforced to me. You will not regret reading this book.
