Summary: Honestly, I skipped a few pages in reading this book.
Review: I picked this book up first at the bookstore, then realized there was another, previous, book, so I bought both. I enjoyed Seeing a Large Cat, and experiencing Ramses' thoughts. This particular book, I thought was slower reading, so I skipped/skimmed parts, which I have never done previously with one of Elizabeth Peters' books. I don't want to get rid of Amelia or the professor, but I would like to see Ramses and Nefrit take center stage. If, however, Ramses is going to remain unattached, I would like to see other love interests (not serious, but enough to get their love affair off and running and CONSUMATED). I love the romance, but Amelia's veiled romantic references are getting to be too tame for me. Nefrit and Ramses should be spicier (hint hint). I was also disappointed at Amelia's reaction to David's love for Lia. I shouldn't have been, given the attitude of the time, but it did knock her off her pedestal, and give her a moment of self-truth. I hope Falcon moves faster.

Summary: Disappointed but not put off!
Review: I've read every Amelia Peabody mystery from the first and have enjoyed each one immensely--anxious for the next. In The Ape ..I was drawn into the story immediately. Each character shown brightly and it was like picking up with an old family. The wit and humor are such that I laugh out loud. However, the particular plot event which takes place strikes me as completely incongruous for the character involved. We have known Nefrut since the beginning as a strong, able, competent, young woman able to make decisions without the influence of so many surrounding idiots. She has shown herself to be independent and quick witted, logical, courageous and never afraid to face danger or the unknown--especially when it involves those she loves. Then suddenly in a matter of two or three pages--boom! She turns into a typical 1800's female who cannot speak up for herself or face a crisis. She falls apart-- this from someone who faces death, disease and decay in the streets of Egypt, demanding to be a part of every danger and evil plot that faces the family. It felt out of character and was a total disappointment. I will certainly not stop reading Elizabeth Peters!! But I do feel this particular book was out of character.

Summary: More is Less
Review: I rejoiced when I saw taht this volumn was longer than most of her previous novels. While the author added interesting references to the efforts of women to obtain voting and educational rights at the start of this century, this story had much less of the truly intersting history, and mythology of Egypt. This was not due to these added historical references, but to the increased amount of senseless patter between the major characters which drew this book out too long, at the expense of the story.

Summary: this book never lacks for excitement
Review: this is the first of elizabeth peters books i have read but it won't be the last.it fully brings egypt and the excavations of the tombs into your home in full force. it is difficult to pick one character over another as this family evokes every emotion from one side of the scale to the other.from antiquities to murder to womens rights for all women, there is adventure for all.you will share all these emotions and beg for more when the book comes to an end and hurry to read her next book.

Summary: The plot is intelligently written.
Review: I really like the way Ms.Peters brought her characters to life. Also, I liked the way she used real life people. (Howard Carter). I'm so glad the Master Crimnal is back! It was a pleasure to read.

Summary: This book refreshes the series
Review: The first few books hooked me on the Emerson/Peabody clan, but I felt that the recent installments had run out of steam. I almost didn't pick this one up, but I'm very glad that I did!

Ms. Peters has made a graceful transition here -- allowing the younger Emersons to take the lead in adventure and romance, while Amelia & the Professor ease into the subtler and deeper issues of maturity. And it works; I was glad to read here that I wasn't the only one to cry toward the end of this book. (Or to sigh a bit over Ramses' unrequited love!)

Summary: one of the best yet ;oD
Review: I have been a fan of Elizabeth Peters for a long time, and I am very pleased with this book. Ms.Peters has done a superb on all of her books and this one is no exception. Please don't make the wait too long for the next one!!!

Summary: Delightful and Delovely
Review: I really enjoyed this outing with the Peabody-Emersons! I can't wait for "The Falcon in the Portal" to come out. I have been an ardent fan of Ms. Peters/Michaels/Mertz since reading "Crocodile on the Sandbank" at the tender age of 13 (many, many years ago!). Although I will always love Amelia, I very much enjoy the younger characters and agree with a previous reviewer that a book focusing on Ramses would be wonderful. (I hope the poor guy winds up with Nefret.) Say...wouldn't it be interesting if the "Master Criminal" happened to be related to John "Smythe" of the Vicky Bliss books?

Summary: The magic is back...
Review: Amelia and her family are back with humor, intrique and mystery. This book returns to the fiesty and funny plots that make them such a joy to read.

I liked this series so much that I researched the life of the real Amelia (Amelia B Edwards), read her travelogues and visited Egypt which is remarkably similar in so many ways to the time of this novel. Many thanks to Barbara Micheals /Elizabeth Peters for her years of fine entertainment.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Fast paced, exciting --an enjoyable diversion
Review: This was one book that I couldn't put down. The development of the younger characters was delightful. A great relaxing read! Perhaps in the future we will see books focusing on the Vicky Bliss mysteries with the same dedication.
