Summary: Her books are like a letter from an old friend.
Review: I always enjoy Amelia Peabody Emerson in any situation and under any circumstance. Perhaps I do miss the unbroken narrative of earlier books in this series, and the spunkier, more involved Peabody back then. I realize the changes have taken place to include the children and their growth to adulthood and mysteries of their own. So even though I anticipate and enjoy each book in this series, in the next one I hope that the archeology isn't sacrificed for minor interruptions and errands (something Emerson never would've allowed in the past). I also look forward to a fresh villian with a new and different mystery to solve. This is my favorite series and I hope Peabody and I grow old together.

Summary: Adventurous
Review: Amelia Peabody and her family, again takes us on another adventure set in the mystical world of Egypt. Everyone growing up now, they encounter new adventures & feelings and are still caught into the mystery and intrigue of the ancient land that is Egypt.

I enjoyed it and am waiting for her next novel adventure!

Summary: An excellent book!
Review: This newest Amelia Peabody mystery is back up to the excellent standard set by the first 3 of this series. It has the same familiar characters but the plot is better than the last few have been and the ending is excellent.

Summary: Can I be the only one who hated this book?
Review: Maybe I just don't have a taste for English mysteries. Maybe this book loses a lot when you listen to it on tape, as I did. Whatever happened, this book was a real trial. The characters were more irritating than charming, the plot was a clumsy mixture of any generic Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes story, and the dialogue was contrived. On top of all that, the Egyptian characters were almost insultingly shallow, suitable only for doing the hard work (if they were the good guys) or being messily killed, if they were on the other side. Maybe this was Peters' way of showing British colonial attitudes, but I found it grating. Finally, the heroine's continual ejactulations of her signature "Good Gad!" drove me downright mad. One more little annoyance in a book full of them.

Summary: Warning: if you start you will not be able to stop
Review: I always get in trouble when I start an Ameilia Peabody book. The Ape Who Guards the Balance kept me up til 4 and 5 in the morning! It is absoulutely fabulous! I can not wait for the next installment. I have never seen such wonderful character development over a series!

Summary: Egyptology and mayhem in a seamless blend.
Review: If there is anyone out there who is unfamiliar with this series, then it is time to catch up with one of the most appealing families in fiction. Add to that the marvelous views of archaeology in the early years of this century, a spiffy little mystery, a few deeds of derring-do, and the reader is in for a great evening of reading.

Summary: i cant wait till the next one!
Review: i love all these books. i laugh to myself whenever i read about ramses's love for nefret and how he is too shy to express it . i cant wait for something to develop between them!

Summary: How did she manage to top the last book!?!?!
Review: I have read and agree with all of the sterling reviews of "The Ape Who Guards the Balance" so I won't rehash too much. I have read every Amelia Peabody mystery at least 5 times each and this is best one yet. I will not give away what happens near the end of the book, but I cannot possibly be the only reader who was in tears because what takes place. That is how much Elizabeth Peters' characters feel like a part of my own loving and sometimes exasperating family! Please don't make us wait too long for the next installment Ms. Peters. My heart can't take it!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not up to the standard we expect from Elizabeth Peters
Review: This latest in the Amelia Peabody series is,perhaps, just too much of what was once a good thing. I had to work at reading it. The characters are familiar but I feel that we've seen too much of them. They almost are caricatures of themselves.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent reading for ancient Egypt lovers.
Review: I have followed Elizabeth Peters' character (Peabody) through her travels and challenges involving her loving family. It is an excellent series that keeps the reader asking for more. I have found a lot of entertainment in these books and have read all of them at least twice.
