Rating: Summary: Great Family Book! Review: Carole Seneker
Sarah, Plain And Tall
Author: Patricia MacLachlan
Sarah, Plain And Tall is a heart-warming story about how one woman won the love of two children and their father. This is timely story with appeal to today's many step-parents and blended families. Sarah, Plain And Tall is set in a time when transportation was by train, horse and buggy, or covered wagons. The author does not provide background information regarding historical fact or the time-span the book is set in. The story is accurate in the portrayal of the culture and values of the time period.
Sarah, Plain And Tall is written in the 1st person point-of-view using Anna's voice. She is the oldest child. The language of the dialogue uses some terms that Sarah brought from Maine. This book is a welcome addition to the classroom library. Children living with both natural parents will also benefit from reading this book. Sarah, Plain And Tall is a view from the opposite side of Cinderella (a well-known fairy tale). Children need this positive view of step-mothers, particularly today when the these families are so common.
Rating: Summary: An Overview of a Children's Classic Review: Sarah,Plain and Tall, a popular children's book, brings a plains family very much to life. The characters are believable and the plot is easily followed. Students in grades four and five eagerly devour the chapters, anxiously awaiting the activity in the next chapter. Yes, the book is low-key, but the students seem to appreciate the love and concern exhibited by the adults. I would highly recommend this delightful book to any teacher who wants to bring characters and plot "alive" to his/her class.
Rating: Summary: Sarah, Plain and Tall is my favorite book of all time! Review: This book is about a girl named Anna and a boy named Caleb, and there Papa. Papa is very sad, because his wife has died, and then a woman named sarah comes, and makes them happy. You never really know 'till the last minute if Sarah will stay or not. it starts out sad, but it has a happy ending. Best book I have ever read. I recomend this book over a million other books! Also the sequels are good too! Skylark, Caleb's story, and Cassie Beginer.
