Summary: Transparent plot melded with some stock characters
Review: The latest Lou Boldt police procedural is a letdown from Pierson's previous books, especially The Pied Piper. Boldt's relationships with his wife and fellow police officers remain a strong point of the series, but the simplistic plot line about smuggled Chinese immigrants is a letdown. Pierson's characterization of a local Chinese-American crimelord somewhat reminds one of The Dragon Lady from Terry and The Pirates. The villain of the piece is revealed way too early, and the outcome is a fargone conclusion. Potential witnesses and leads are killed off one by one, until it becomes monotonous.

Summary: Good book, but hard to get into
Review: This certainly wasn't one of Pearson's best, but once you get past the first 100 pages, the book is pretty good. I had such a hard time getting through the beginning of the book, I actually thought I might just skip this one. Once the story finally got going the book was quite good. There was a lot going on, and the character's personal lives were not explored in as much detail as the past. Also, the constant references to past cases (i.e. the previous books) did not help the story much. Over all, the book was good, though not one of the best.

Summary: Hanging On
Review: This is my first read of Pearson. I found it thoughtful and intriuging. The story is creative yet real and gives the reader a new set of world issues to consider. A good read.

Summary: Not a bad story; seems familiar. Well read though.
Review: This is the first story of Ridley Pearson's I've listened to [I'm referring to the abridged audiocassette version] featuring Lou Boldt. It was not bad. The story seems a little familiar (perhaps, because "Law and Order" or one of the program(me)s; perhaps, CSI, I'm not sure)had a similar story. Anyway, the reader, Scott Rosema, kept the story "tight". The characters, the detective, the reporter, and her friend, who took a chance going "undercover", are fairly strong. I think I'd like to check into more of Mr. Pearson's work. Recommended to me by a co-worker. Not bad, as I said, even though familiar.

Summary: A DISAPPOINTING, SLOW-PACED THRILLER
Review: When a shipping container with illegals in it washes ashore, television news anchor Stevie McNeal jumps on the story to boost her career, along with the help of her friend, reporter, Melissa.

Lou Boldt and John LaMoia are the investigating officer's on the appearance of the mysterious ship.

When Melissa disappears and other murders begin happening, the two detective's team up with Stevie to find her friend and put and end to the illegal smuggling.

"The First Victim" is a let down, considering Pearson's previous novels "Beyond Recognition" and "Chain Of Evidence", although the plot is interesting, it is slowly paced for a thriller, and introduces too many characters along the way becoming more confusing and dull as the novel progresses. The climax may surprise some, but the armchair detective will have figured it out.

Ridley Pearson writes good thrillers, this not being one of them, pick up one of his previous novels for good thrills.

Summary: Ridley Is Rocking the Ratings!
Review: Wonderful book! It explored the lives of Chinese immigrants and sweatshops. This book reminded me of many certain movies, but this book described it in much more detail. Lou Boldt and Daphne Matthews are on the case. YEAH!! The book is a little slow but concludes in a great way, making it an enjoyable read by Mr. Ridley Pearson.
